Review: Cancelled contract within required 3-day period a month and a half ago. Company still has not confirmed cancellation, & charges remain on my account.

On January 13, agreed to have an ADT home security system installed, after talking with an door-to-door salesman, [redacted] with American Home Alarms, and ADT authorized dealer. I was a little uncomfortable taking this on at the time, as I wasn't positive about how my financial situation was going to turn out, Mr. [redacted] assured me the company would work with me if there were any problems in that area; he even took 1 year off the contract term, and waived the early termination fee if I should have to quit the service early. He even went back to the office and brought me the original paper I signed regarding the early termination fee, and gave it to me, saying that they couldn't enforce it if they didn't have the original. The day after the installation, I realized that I really couldn't afford the system at this time, and so I sent in the official cancellation form to the address given on the form, and sent it by certified mail on the 15th of January. I tracked the delivery online, it arrived at their offices on the morning of the 18th. I called the American Home Alarms office to give them a heads up that I was sending a cancellation notice to the address that the form was supposed to be sent to. When Mr. [redacted] heard about it, he came to my house and offered me some extra perks I f I would not cancel. He said he could have a technician out two days later and said he would be there at 12 noon, (not within a window of time, but right at 12 noon.) I told him if he could do that, I would stay. The day the tech was supposed to be there, he didn't show up, so I called the main office and told them I wanted the cancellation to go through, as I was tired of being run-around. They told me a tech would be out in a couple of hours to remove the equipment. I asked if the tech would be giving me a receipt when he took the equipment, but they told me I would get a receipt once the cancellation was finished processing. The tech was the same one who installed the system, [redacted] (yes, [redacted], not [redacted].) He uninstalled the system and took the equipment. I sent another copy of the cancellation notice, and called them just to make sure they were fully aware that I had canceled, as I thought Mr. [redacted] may have called them and told them to disregard the first one. I was also a little uneasy about them taking the equipment without giving me some kind of receipt. I have since called them several times to check on the status of the cancellation, and nobody seems to be able to give me any definite information. They tell me it takes about a month for a cancellation to process, but it's been nearly six weeks, and still nobody will tell me anything. I still have a charge to my debit card from ADT for $70.48, dated 1/17/14. I do have copies of the delivery confirmation labels and screen captures from the USPS website tracking page to show that both copies were delivered. Mr. [redacted] also had put different dates on some of the paperwork, and wrote my home phone number incorrectly. It really seems like either these people don't really know their job very well, or they are trying to stall on cancelling my service/account, or worse, trying to somehow charge me for early termination, or even worse, charge me for equipment that they took away but never gave me a receipt for.Desired Settlement: I just want to be done with ADT, and, as I did my part in cancelling within the required time frame, I would like the $70.48 charge refunded to my checking account, with no further charges. Also some form of acknowledgment/receipt showing that my account is indeed cancelled and that there will be no further charges of any kind.
