Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/12/23) */
The customer visited our establishment on two separate occasions inquiring about getting tattooed before an appointment was ever made and a deposit was left. Each time our policy about the deposit not being refundable was thoroughly explained in...

detail, not to mention the non-refundable deposit policy is posted in plain view within the shop's front desk. The day his credit card was ran for the standard $250 retainer to hold his appointment, which was with an artist for a seven-hour time slot. He was verbally told several times that once a deposit is left, it is non-refundable and 48 hours must be given to reschedule his appointment. The artist spent extra time explaining this because a higher level of apprehension was present with the client about charging such a large amount of money to make the tattoo appointment. The client actually left the studio saying he needed more time to make his decision. He came back in within minutes and authorized the transaction for $250 and set his appointment for December 2nd at 12pm. He was given an appointment card with his time and date of the appointment. On the bottom of the appointment card, it is worded clearly "All deposits are non-refundable and will be forfeited if 48-hour notice is not given to reschedule your appointment, alter your design or you do not have a valid ID card the day of your appointment. NO EXCEPTIONS!" The client called on December 1st after 12pm (less than 24-hours of his appointment) to cancel. The artist told him that without 48 hours notice he would have a hard time filling his entire workday with a new client, but understood that he had to cancel out of hardships. At that moment we were very lenient on our 48-hour cancellation notice in lieu of his situation. The client was told to call or come in when he was ready to get back in the schedule book and his $250 deposit would still be usable towards setting up a new appointment. The artist was unable to fill 4 hours of his workday on December 2nd, in result of the client's short cancellation notice. On December 12th, the client came in the shop in-person and asked if he could get his money refunded to him. He was hoping that with his special circumstance, we would understand, and be able to refund his deposit in full. Our policy was then explained once again and we offered him a $250 gift certificate to our business. We have attached 2 photos, one of an appointment card the client received the had his appointment was set in the book. The other is the posted policy towards deposits in plain view of the front desk to all clients.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/12/27) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Going in December 12th, I had in mind I was going to get my money back for the deposit. I started talking and at first was offered a 250$ gift certificate, but only to be sold at 200$. It's still a decent amount of money but that wasn't my intentions. I was put on the spot with a few females being in the back of the shop and one of the artists antagonizing me into asking them if they wanted to buy it. I was in no mood to be thrown out there like that. I thought it would be a simple transaction, however after 15 mins of talking and in hopes I would get somewhere; the same thing was being said. Whether they have a sign that is posted no refunds, or what have you; there should be some respect in dealing with that kind of situation and I felt like I had been metaphorically thrown to the dogs the way I had been treated.
