If a representative from American Institute of Consumer Studies comes to your door, turn them away.
They will offer you money (I was offered $60) to answer a few marketing questions.
If you let them in, they will spend 30 mins or more on some questions, and give you $20. They will leave you with a book (seriously, a thick book of small print) with more survey questions that you will complete to get the other $40 of the $60 that you were promised. Note that at no time do they let you know that the in-person questions are just a small part of what you need to do to get paid.
The interviewer will leave, and then you start examining the questions - which are very detailed and are clearly tied to your name. A bonanza for anyone that wants to market to you, but not information that you will want to be known. I said over the phone and by email that I would not be completing the survey and that I thought there practices are deceptive. I received 4 separate calls at work, and many emails and another copy of the book via USPS mail, attempting to get me to complete it. The money went from $40 to $100. DO NOT DO IT. The reason that I am writing this is after someone says that they are done / don't want to hear from a company anymore, their privacy should be respected. This company does not respect privacy - do not give them any personal information, especially contact information such as email addresses or phone numbers. I feel that a class-action lawsuit, or action by the FTC is in order. Their representatives are active in every state.

I wanted to leave A review for my experience with American Institute of consumer study. I was approached at my home by a very nice gentleman who asked if he could conduct A survey study with me regarding my local media and shopping habits and that I would be compensated for my participation . Now of course I was skeptical but he was very nice and not pushy at all & just wanted to take a little bit of my time to ask me some questions that were non-identifying and he didn't ask me any personal questions at all. It was just questions based on my shopping habits and then he left a book for me to complete at my leisure. It was a thick book and there were a lot of sections that didn't pertain to me so I would just put a big X through them but for the most part it took me about an hour while I watched TV to fill out the book and then he came back and picked it up and paid me for my time. I would definitely do it again if asked.

Our household has had an extremely negative experience this past week with American Institute of Consumer Studies Field Interviewer, Kathy B[redacted] aggressive tactics.
I wish to lodge a formal complaint against your Field Interviewer, Kathy B[redacted]. She has come by our house 3 times this week and does not understand what the word “NO” means. First visit: my husband was home and he told her no. Her response was she would come back when the woman of the house was home. I came home at 7:15 pm and she was waiting in front of our house in her car for me to get home. I was in the house 5 minutes and she was ringing the doorbell. I told her I was not interested in completing any surveys; I don’t do surveys for anyone! She said “I send you my information in the mail that I would be stopping by”. I told her I shredded it and am not interested. As I was closing the door on her she said she would come back and I told her no, please don’t.
Today, Saturday 9/19, she shows up at my door again. I told her to go away that we were not interested. This discussion, if you want to call it that happened behind the locked screen door with me never leaving my chair or approaching the door. She refused to leave or accept my “no” and continued to talk.
I have her business card from the second visit and today took photos of her car and license pl[redacted]. If Kathy B[redacted] or any person shows up at my door again, in my driveway, in front of my house or in my yard I will call the police immediately.
