AIT uses deceptive practices to lure students into signing up for courses promising jobs, and using federal student loan money to pay for classes. I signed up for the school in August 2015 and attended 2 weeks and recieved my permit. I had to pay $400 down to pay for permit and books. Tuition was to be covered by federal student loans and pell grant. I checked in with financial aid several times because something didn't feel right and I read reviews online that other students had issues with the school. All I heard for two weeks from financial aid was, everything is fine.
Two weeks into the program, I got notice to see financial aid. They told me my financial aid package fell through and needed to sign up for one of their high interest rate in-house loans. Seemed really fishy, so I told them I was withdrawing, they said fine. I paid $400 in a check to cover the cost for my permit and books, so I assumed I would get something for the two weeks I attended, but I never heard anything from them.
Last week, almost a year later, I recieved a letter from a collection agency stating I owed tuition in full $5500. I never received anything from them stating anything the day I left after refusing to sign the paperwork for the extremely high interest loan. The school is a rip off. The instructors are also sexist against women entering the field. I had several instances where I was put on the spot for being a female, asking why I would want to enter a mans field.
The school is now owned by Werner Enterprises. When I enrolled, I was told I would have pre-hire letters from several companies. I got two. One from Werner Enterprises and I preferred to go to another company after researching Werner, they weren't the company for me. After talking to TC, the guy who signed me up, and several others in the office, they kept pressuring me to go to work at Werner. Found out later, they get kickback money from the company, and hid the fact they were owned by Werner and convince students to go to Werner to work.
