We signed up for their service titled "Lost Pet Alert". Their website states "This service complements your pets microchip enrollment by broadcasting your lost pets information to animal shelters, veterinarians and pet lovers in your immediate area interested in helping with your pets safe return home"They told us over the phone that they would notify vets in a 25 mile radius from where we live. Not once did they tell us that they would only notify "Participating Vets" in the 25 mile radius.I called and asked if they could provide me a list of the vets they did notify they said they would not due to "security issues".Desired SettlementI would like to see them notify ALL of the vets in our area via a phone call or I would like my money refunded for their worthless service. They need to change their advertising to include "Only Participating Vets" and they need to clearly state they won't divulge who received the notifications.Business Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted]Contact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXXContact Email: [redacted]@akc.orgGood morning. The American Kennel Club ("AKC")is sorry to hear of the misunderstanding concerning the Lost Pet Alert. However, under the FAQ section (http://www.akcreunite.org/faq/) on the AKC ReUnite page, it clearly states '...your lost pet's information to a participating network of animal shelters and veterinarians...'Mr. [redacted] may find answers to any questions he has on this page. If not, please feel free to contact our office further. Thank you![redacted]

On May 9, 2016 I tried to register my dog. They sent papers to the breeder instead of me.May 9, 2016, I mailed registration papers from my breeder & a check for $61.00 to AKC to register my dog. On June 16, 2016, I had not heard from them, so I e-mailed AKC. I was told that I signed on the wrong line so they sent the papers to the breeder and I would have to pay an additional $30.00 to transfer the papers. An astute person should have been able to see that I was trying to register the dog. Why didn't they contact me to let me know there was a problem? Why did I have to contact them?My address was on the paperwork and on my check! Is this a scam they use to obtain more money?I not only paid for the registration, but also for an AKC certified Pedigree & Lost & found.I have posted this complaint on Facebook & Twitter.Desired SettlementI would like to have the Pedigree and registration that I paid for!Business Response Good morning-In order to research the matter further could Mr. [redacted] please provide us with the dog's registered name and number and also the breeder's name and complete mailing address.Thank you,[redacted]Consumer Response Dog's name: [redacted]# [redacted]Breeder's name: [redacted]I tried to contact the breeder and they have moved to Texas with no forwarding address. Thanks, [redacted]Final Business Response In reviewing the application that was submitted to our office it was completed with only the litter owner's information. Mr. [redacted]'s name was not on the application at all. It is not uncommon for another party to pay for a registration so the check would not have verified the owner information. I will be happy to provide a copy of the application for review, if you provide an email to do so. In regards to the correct registration, I have sent an email to the litter owner today to see if we can confirm transfer of the dog to Mr. [redacted]. Upon receipt of the litter owner's response, this matter will have our further attention. In the interim, we ask that Mr. [redacted] provide us with a copy of his bill of sale, sales agreement of any other documentation that he received at the time of purchase. The information can be sent to my attention by email, fax or mail.American Kennel ClubMORE INFO RECEIVED FROM THE BUSINESS : We have received a response from Ms. [redacted] confirming transfer of the dog to Mr. [redacted]. Please have Mr. [redacted] provide his complete mailing address, phone number, email address. Also, confirm the date he acquired [redacted].

Incorrect registrationWe registered a new dog and during the registration there was no option (button) to add a co-owner, despite the fact that we've been (after the fact) assured there is such an option. Don't know if it's a website/[redacted] issue or what but we have the screen prints and the option wasn't there. We immediately contacted their customer service after completing the form , indicating we need to add the co-owner. The customer service department now wants $10 on top of the already paid $30 registration fee to fix this simple issue and they won't budge on making the fix for us.Desired SettlementAdd the co-owner that should've been included as part of the online registration at no charge.Business Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted] Sr CorrespondentContact Phone: [redacted]Contact Email: [redacted]Thank you for your correspondence concerning Mr. [redacted]s complaint.Online registration is done by the customer. The registration fee is $30.00 for registration and an additional $10.00 per co-owner. Mr.[redacted] indicated that he was wishing to add a co-owner which would indeed be an additional $10.00. However, we will be more than happy to waive that fee for him. In order to correct the registration of the dog, please have Mr.[redacted] provide the dog's registration number and a copy of the dog registration application which shows the ownership of the dog.Should either of you have any further questions, I can be reached directly at (919) [redacted].Thank you,[redacted]Consumer Response Thank you [redacted] I've sent the information you requested to your email.Final Business Response I have also responded to Mr.[redacted] via email. He has advised me that he is out of town at this moment but once he returns, he will be providing the information needed to correct the dog's records.Thank you,[redacted]

Organization persists in spamming despite requests to stop; gave e-mail address to scores of external marketers.Apparently the breeder from whom I bought a puppy about four months ago sent my e-mail to the American Kennel Club. I do not share my real e-mail address with any but customers with whom I do business, and because I have an active business I cannot afford to have my in-box flooded with advertising offers. But that is now what I have. I have "unsubscribed" until I am blue in the face. I have asked repeatedly to be removed from AKC's mailing list and from the mailing lists of the people who buy e-mails from them. I have installed at least a half-dozen custom codes in my e-mail system to derail the nuisance messages. But STILL the trash keeps pouring in!!!!I do not know how to make this organization quit. So I believe that breeders, pet owners, and organizations selling breed-specific products and services should be informed of AKC's oily spamming practices and should be urged to protect their customers' and their own e-mail information from this outfit.Desired SettlementI'm sure there's no law against harassing people with e-mail in direct contradiction of repeated requests to stop. Obviously, you can't legislate common courtesy. But it would be nice if an organization with a little business clout, such as the Revdex.com, would negotiate with the American Kennel Club to try to get them to stop exploiting unsuspecting pet purchasers in this way. Please tell them a) to take my name and e-mail address off their spam lists; b) to quit sharing my private information with their avaricious affiliates; and c) to let breeders and pet owners seeking to register purebred dogs KNOW that the AKC is in the business of selling e-mail and snail-mail addresses and harassing pet owners with endless spam and junk mail.Thank you for your consideration.Business Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted]Contact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXXContact Email: [redacted]@akc.orgThank you for your correspondence. In reviewing our records I do find that we updated the email to no contact. I have updated the mailing address and telephone number so that they are not used as well. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused Ms. [redacted].Thank you,[redacted]
