Review: My boiler was filled with soot. I called American Liberty Boiler to perform a vacuum job on the boiler to clean it out. The technician demanded a $450 cash payment immediately upon completion of the job. I paid him the cash. Within minutes, I had another boiler technician check the boiler for operability. He stated and showed that the boiler had not been vacuumed properly, pointing out the remaining soot, and that the boiler was in no condition to be vacuumed because it was burning through the sides and needed to be replaced. He showed me proof that the vacuum tech did not even take the boiler top off to vacuum inside. He also informed me that the vacuum job would typically be a $150 service. I called back to American Liberty Boiler and explained the situation to [redacted]. She did not want to issue a refund. After a week of calling and waiting, she finally agreed to refund $200. It was another 2 weeks, and many more phone calls before a check arrived in the mail, postmarked several days after she stated that she had originally mailed it, and made out with the wrong name, and thereby unusable. I called [redacted] about the check, and she was loud, rude, and unwilling to resolve the situation reasonably.Desired Settlement: I would like a $450 refund. I am prepared to take legal action if this desire is not met.

Response:

On January [redacted] 2014 I recieved a call from [redacted] regarding a shut down ( carbonized boiler) @ [redacted] is not [redacted] of property, his father in law is [redacted] who does not live there per [redacted]. I dispatched the call to my technician [redacted] a boiler tech. I told the customer that we charge 450.00 for a carbonized boiler , he could either pay it in cash check or charge upon completeion which is what we accept. My technician did not demand a cash payment as [redacted] claims, he was done with job and collected as any company would have. Per my tech [redacted] upon arrival he cleaned the boiler with his commercial vac and air compressor. When he was done he took picture and it showed boiler to be cleaned and not carbonized any longer. [redacted] noticed that the firewall insulation was damaged and covering the burners. When he was done he told customer to call back the plumber that was previously there, he tol d [redacted] tht he would not turn back on the boiler becuae of his findings ( Firewall insulations and the covering of the burners) per [redacted], he had many at least 6 other people there to check the boiler prior to us. While [redacted] was cleaning up and putting away equipment the plumber showed up and [redacted] told him what he saw and that he recommended that the boiler NOT be truned back on and that it needed to be replaced something that we do not do. The plumber then turned on the boiler and smoke ws blowing out of the bak wall and smoking so bad that it set off the smoke detectors, the plumber then agreed with my tech [redacted] that it needed to be replaced. [redacted] called again and said there was still a problem that he felt we didnt clean it and I agreed to send my tech back to show him it was cleaned with the picture that [redacted] took. The pictures hows the top being off and that boiler was cleaned, customer and tech met and customer said ok and left. I spoke to customer again and gave him the name of a licensed plumber that we use for things of this nature, his name is [redacted]. I called [redacted] and explained the situation and gave him [redacted] number as well . [redacted] called him several times but he never called him back. When I spoke again to [redacted] he told me he went with another plumber that his father in law used before. When my tech was at the house he spoke to the father in law on the phone and explained the situation and the father in law said that he already had spent over 1200 dollars for this boiler but understood. My tech told me what the father in law had said and my tech tokd him that he would talk to me and see if we could give him back something because my tech felt sorry for the father in law that he had already spent alot of money and now needed a new boiler. I called [redacted] and left a voice mail stating that his father in law and my tech had spoken and that because I was being a good natured person that I would send him back 2 00.00. [redacted] said he was looking for 300.00 but I said that I was willing to send him 200.00 nd that his father in law had agreed already and he said ok. The credit I issued took longer that I exspected 2 weeks at least. I asked [redacted] to leave me a voice mail on who to write the check to and he did.The name he said was [redacted]. I wrote the check and sent it to him. On Friday the [redacted] of january I was headed out of town in my car and I was already in ** and [redacted] called me screaming and threatening me that I purposly wrote the check to the wrong person. I tried to explain that I took the name off my voice mail he had left me and it was what he said. he continued to arguer with me and threaned me that if I did not show up that day with cash he was going to take legal action.( witness to him screaming and threatening me was in my car) . I told [redacted] that I woulod be back on Sunday that I would stop by , he said he would not be there. I told him to call me when he was there and I would come by and drop off another heck for the 200.00 that I appoloigized that I wrote it wrong that, that was not my intention. My intention was that I really didnt have to return any money to him because we did the job that he asked and that I had picture to prove it, and I felt bad for his father in law and was trying to be nice by sending him the 200.00. His remark was " Dont feel bad for him" [redacted] continued to yell at me and I was able to tell him that I would still give him the 200.00 when he called me that he was going to be at the property. I never heard from him after that until this complaint. I was concerned when [redacted] was screaming and yelling at me over the phone that it caused me concern to just show up alone because he was threatening me as well. I am still willing to return the 200.00 I offered but at this point I will only deal with the property owner his father in law and send him the 200.00 refund. I am hoestly afraid to show up and drop off the 200.00 to [redacted]. His anger to me caused me concern.
