American Lube Reviews (1)

Review: Took car in for oil change on 8/7/13 and they broke the seal and stripped bolts on canister. When I got the car back they told me that they were unable to remove the oil filter, but still charged me full price. When I got the car home It was leaking oil badly. Took the to be fixed at GM and was charged 438.57 to replace the broken parts. I took the bill to American Lube and they refused to work with me.Desired Settlement: Reimbursement of the repair fees of 438.57, plus the fees of the oil change of 42.94 total 481.51

Initial Business Response

This is [redacted] From American Lube. [redacted], owner for 2000 Saturn 3.0L came to the shop on June 23, 2012 asking for an oil change. His mileage at that time was 109509. We did the oil change, but we could not remove the oil Filter. The Filter cap was turning with oil filter housing. We ordered the new cap on 25th of June. The mileage was 109812. The car had oil leak from valve cover gasket. American Lube replaced the oil filter cap and oil filter seal. while changing the oil filter cap we had to hold the oil filter housing which is not the right way to open the oil filter. Prior to service we had to do it this way. The customer bought the car with that problem. The oil filter cap was torque to 15 newton meters. There was engine oil leaks from different places. On February 8th, 2013 the customer came back for an oil change with the same problem. The mileage was 117501. We tried to remove the oil filter cap, the oil filter housing was still turning. We had to hold the oil filter housing to open the oil filter cap. The car still had leaks from different places. The oil filter cap was torque to 15 newton meters. We requested the customer to replace the filter housing and new oil filter cap so that the problem could be solved and makes the oil change easier. Customer had refused at that time. He said he will get rid of the car. On August 7th,2013 the customer returned for the same request which was oil and filter change. The mileage was 122262. The car has more oil leaks from different places now. We refused to do the service. The customer said this will be the last oil change and he will get rid of the car. We changed the oil and the oil filter. Customer requested to put an oil additive so that it can prevent the leaks. There was no warranty on the leaks. There was no warranty on the oil filter housing. It needs to be fixed to do the oil change. The customer said he cannot afford to fix all these problems. He will sell the car as soon as possible. After two weeks he came back complaining about oil leaks. He asked us to recheck the leaks. It was leaking from the valve cover gasket. He took it to the dealer to fix the problem. He started to claim the bill to American Lube. American Lube refused to pay the bill. We have documents with his signatures on it that says the car had oil leaks from Day 1. Thank You, American Lube

Final Consumer Response

Please excuse my lateness, I have been very busy and did not receive the correspondence until it was late. In response to American Lube's statement, I would not tell them that I would sell the car because I don't own it yet. I am still making payments on it. After taking the car for repairs at GM where they repaired the gasket and cover, the car is not leaking. GM would not have let me leave there with other oil leaks. If you would like to inspect the car, I would be willing to bring it to you.
