I had an accidental apartment fire on February 1,2015.Insurance Company is not responding to my claim.I purchased insurance with American Modern Ins Group in August 2014. I had an accidental apartment fire on February 1,2015.I filed my claim on the following day. My policy # is [redacted].I purchased a 30,000 policy for my personal property. [redacted] was assigned to my case. I had nowhere to live. I was told to get a room and I would be reimbursed. That never happened. I was told to send in receipts for my furniture and clothing. I complied. For several weeks I have been trying to contact Ms.[redacted] and she will not return any of my phone calls. I tried to talk to another agent but they only transfer my calls back to Ms.[redacted]'s answering machine. Desired SettlementI would like the money owed to me so I can reestablish myself. If this is not resolved,I will be contacting a lawyerBusiness Response The insured filed a claim due to fire damage to their apartment. The insured's claim was closed due to inactivity based on lack of information in regards to the amount or what items were damaged within the apartment. Once the claim information was submitted the documents were priced out and forwarded to the adjuster for completion. The paperwork was reviewed by the adjuster on June 12, 2015 for completion and the adjuster contact the insured on June 15, 2015 for settlement. The adjuster since has issued a check to the insured for the total of the damaged as she reported to our offices.

Charging higher premiums. Took it upon themselves to increase my coverage without notification.Account XXXXXXXXXXXXX - American Modern did not notify me in 2013 about increasing my coverage amount. Which increased my premium. My premium has gone from $677 to $1,061 in 2013. That's an increase of $384 in Premium. I've tried getting someone to reduce my coverage back to what it was prior to 2013 and refund me the $384 of additional premium for coverage increase that I did NOT request, nor approve.I cannot get any assistance trying to get a refund and retro-active my actual Coverage Increase for 2013. My agent that sold this policy to me in 2009 ([redacted] told me I had to contact Amer. Modern. He was of no assistance.Desired SettlementRefund of $384 and reduce my coverage and premium payment back to what it was prior to 5/2013 renewal of policy. I would like to avoid any legal action, but am willing if not satisfied. No action taken at this time. If cannot resolve this issue relatively quickly, I will discontinue policy and its upcoming renewal come 5/2014.Business Response March 3, 2014Revdex.comOf Eastern North Carolina5540 Munford Rd., Ste. 130Raleigh, NC XXXXX-XXXXReference:File Number: XXXXXXXXInsured Name: [redacted]Policy Number: XXXXXXXXXXXXXInception Date: 05/28/2009Policy Type: [redacted] Home [redacted]Naic Number: XXXXXFein: XX-XXXXXXXI am responding to the letter received in our office on 02/20/2014, regarding the above mentioned policy. I have researched the history of the policy and my findings are as follows. This policy was issued by the agent, [redacted] to be effective 05/28/2009. The policy automatically includes replacement cost as the type of loss settlement. As is standard for replacement cost policies, the coverage limits offered under this policy are subject to change at every renewal based on housing inflation factors as determined by the Consumer Price Index. The renewal policy declarations page that was mailed to the insured notified them of this information as stated below:"The coverage limits for your dwelling, personal property, adjacent structures, and loss of use have been increased 2.90% . This has occurred so that your coverage limits are keeping up with costs associated with replacing your covered property."According to a [redacted] & [redacted] replacement cost estimate ran on 02/24/2014, the minimum acceptable limit for coverage under this policy would be [redacted] The insured may contact our company at X-XXX-XXX-XXXX or fax their signed request to X-XXX-XXX-XXXX in order to make this change to the policy. If the insured would like to reduce their coverage below this limit, they may contact their agent to obtain a new policy with an Actual Cash Value settlement option.
