On Frlday July 31, two plumbers from American Plumbing came to my home for a scheduled appointment to install a faucet set, which I had already purchased and to repair a leaky shower head After a four minute inspection I was told that to install the faucet set would cost around $ The old faucet had already been removed and the holes were drilled in the countertop It was not a complicated job as there was easy and clear access to the underside of the sink As for the leaky shower head I was told that the stem from inside the wall would need to be removed and sent off to be repaired The cost for this would be around $ At that point I paid the $service call fee and asked them to leave I didn't need a second opinion to be certain that these estimates were outrageous Today my husband and brother-in-law replaced the faucet set in minutes with no problem and it works beautifully Then they went to the neighborhood hardware store to purchase a $O-Ring and in about minutes the leaky shower head was stopped I consider this to be totally unethical and unacceptable Not sure what their thought process was but it seemed to me that they were attempting to take advantage of a female client whom they thought would be totally ignorant of the cost of plumbing repairs, as well as the fact that I was being scammed SHAME ON AMERICAN PLUMBING for this totally unethical practice I will never recommend them to anyone!

As for the leaky shower head I was told that the stem from inside the wall would need to be removed and sent off to be repaired. The cost for this would be around $450. At that point I paid the $49 service call fee and asked them to leave.

I didn't need a second opinion to be certain that these estimates were outrageous. Today my husband and brother-in-law replaced the faucet set in 25 minutes with no problem and it works beautifully. Then they went to the neighborhood hardware store to purchase a $6 O-Ring and in about 20 minutes the leaky shower head was stopped.

I consider this to be totally unethical and unacceptable. Not sure what their thought process was but it seemed to me that they were attempting to take advantage of a female client whom they thought would be totally ignorant of the cost of plumbing repairs, as well as the fact that I was being scammed.

SHAME ON AMERICAN PLUMBING for this totally unethical practice. I will never recommend them to anyone!
