American Tile & Terrazzo

Review: Recently, American Tile and Terrazzo was hired to restore 5 rooms with porter cement terrazzo flooring. 1 bathroom, Kitchen, Dinning room, side and front entranceways. The center of the rooms were all uniformly ground to 200 grit. Was left with a dull clean surface. Was told the surface would shine like the other projects they showed me after they applied the acrylic sealer. I was skeptical that 200 grit was enough. For a dollar more per foot they said they would polish to 1200 grit but retracted the offer and reassured me 200 grit was enough. They were the pros, and came highly recomended from several commercial project managers I have worked with in the past. However, the complaint is centered on a patch performed in the Kitchen and unpolished areas in the corners and along the baseboards. The only areas of concern are specifically the discoloration and rough surface that would not be covered by the toe molding. This is any discoloration greater than one inch out from the wall.

After close inspection the stains were only in places that were still rough and not smooth like the rest of the room. The PM inspected stains and he agreed the areas of concern were not hit with the diamond grinders. He suggested that he would check with the owner over the best course of action. Was told since the workers had to grind the patch in the kitchen they would also make a pass on the edges of all the other rooms. They said they performed this work but all stains would need to be chipped out and patched. Was lied to and discovered the stains were old polish/wax and were later removed by me with a scotch pad. The Terrazzo along baseboards is still not smooth and will still need grinding. The patch not only did not match the floor, but did not match the sample they provided. They are demanding payment and refuse to fix their mistakes. I had to change kitchen to a less disireable layout to cover. Florida contractor used on other projects laughed and mentioned something about a rookie mistake.Desired Settlement: At this point I have been in contact with Commercial Facilities managers to re-enquire about this company. They clarified their earlier statements by saying that American Tile and Terrazzo is the best New Orleans has to offer, but for any job that is important they bring in Florida companies. I would like my floors done properly. I would like this company to perform a repair that matches there Sample. After the lies, I do not believe the owner can be trusted and was clear he would not fix.
