Review: My husband and I called the Regency Inn in Belgium, Wisconsin, to book a weekend. I called and inquired on prices. I was quoted the price of $89.00 for a single queen bed per night for the weekend of August 9th to the 11th. I had looked up the Regency Inn on the web and noted the different rates for different times of the year. $89.00 was the price for this time of year. When we arrived at the hotel on Friday afternoon at 4:30 pm to check in [redacted], the General Manager, proceeded to charge us $119.90 plus $15.00 tax for our room. I showed her our confirmation number and quoted price of $89.00. [redacted] proceeded to inform us that she was charging $119.90. I told her that we had been quoted $89.00 when we called in, having given our credit card then. She told us that she was charging $119.90 a night and that was it. She smiled and said that I had nothing in writing to show that she had told us anything but $119.90. She also told us that she had covered the hot tub and it would be off limits for the weekend. I showed [redacted] the website which lists the price of $89.00 and she told me it didn't matter that she was charging us $119.90.I asked her when the owner of the hotel would be there as we were not getting anywhere with her on our reservation. She informed me that she was the owner. My husband and I were joining several other people (5 rooms in total) there for the weekend. When we joined up with the rest of the group, they also were upset that they were charged more than their quoted prices with their confirmations. One couple had their daughter along and they were charged $146 a night. We all stayed there since it was not possible to switch that many rooms to another hotel at such a late notice and she had already run our cards. On Saturday morning we (the group) left for breakfast, upon returning to the hotel our keys didn't work to our rooms. [redacted] said that she had deactiviated them and we would need to get new ones. WHY?! We had booked 2 nights.Desired Settlement: I would like to have the price of $89.00 a night honored. [redacted] ran our card immediately on Friday afternoon for the price of $270.02 for the two nights. We stayed there for the weekend and are willing to pay for our stay, just not at her NEW price. We found out throughout the weekend that our group was not the only ones charged differently than quoted. We also learned from another business that this is not uncommon for this hotel. We don't want others to have this happen to them.

Response:
[redacted]
called the motel and booked a room and was given a nightly rate of
$119.90, along with a confirmation number. At check-in time her husband
came and checked-in under a previous block of rooms reserved for the
Hansen party- also booked at a rate of $119.90. Mrs. Hansen did not
initially mention that she was a part of the block, though she was asked
due to the nature of her last name. Later she stated that she had an
issue with the rate due to our website ([redacted]
stating that rates were $89.90. Our website does state that, but right
below it clearly denotes that certain weekends do have higher rates and
customers are encouraged to contact us to alleviate any confusion or to
get clarification during what we know can be a challenging part of the
reservation process. [redacted] was aware she was in town for the
Luxembourg Day festivities, which are part of an "event" weekend as it
was what brought her.
Outside of AAA,
AARP, Military (Active/Retired) and certain annual guests, we maintain
price integrity and only offer discounts to members of the named
organizations. During [redacted] stay, we can also confidently make
this claim.
In an effort to
reduce issues of this nature in the future, we have asked our website
designer to mark special event weekends in a different color and with an
"*" (asterisk) to ensure those dates stand out. We apologize for the
confusion but do believe strongly we are doing our due diligence to
offset errors in the online marketplace.
It is my hope that we have effectively answered your questions/concerns.
Please feel free to contact me if there is any other information I can provide.
