To whom it may concern…
When I met *** and *** on March 7th we strictly talked about what he wanted done to the white Subaru Forester
as listed March 7th @ 1:pm
-Engine swap/ Not including swapping timing parts or extra labor witch was what was needed to
complete *** Forester
I originally quoted him $labor and parts/fluids $
1) *** engine supplier which was quoted at at the lowest 2) Or *** supplies the motor from a 3rd unknown party which is what *** decided on and arranged with me to pick up on March 12th @ 11:43am*** had Paid the 3rd party for the engine prior to pick up, I asked what needed to be swapped and they informed me of the intake manifold needed to be used off of the old motor from the Forester as this Engine was claimed to have been rebuilt but not verified to my knowledge.
-Engine Bay detail
Clean out the grease and dirt build up from the old motor
Items not paid for or replaced!!
-Headers
-Performance Intake
The Forester was dropped off at my house on March 10th with a payment of $$was the promised but *** asked that I work with him on a payment basis$of the $went to everything needed for the swap as talked about prior to purchaseI explained multiple times to *** and *** that I would not start the swap until I had all the partsI had planed on starting the weekend of Saturday March 14th but I did not have all the components to begin the engine swap
The new/used motor was installed on March 22nd
This Project was started on Tuesday March 17th when I had all the parts needed to complete the swap and was completed on Saturday evening of April 4th which was a total of business days and working as a favor on weekends and my own personal time to do trouble shooting as I did not have all the correct parts to begin with
I had to redo the timing on the motor twice because the (1st) time *** battery was dead and caused the engine to jump timing luckily not bottoming out the valvesThe (2nd) time was because I had spoke to another ASE certified source and had found out the timing parts on the current motor would not allow the engine to start because they have a specified tooth count on the cam and cog gears from a Subaru outback which I notified *** and *** at the time and they said to proceed with swapping the timing parts form the old motor to the new one and they just wanted the car done as soon as possible
I then performed a compression test free of charge to see if anything was damaged from the timing being off and all cylinders had a good level of compression which told me that the new engine was OK to proceed and test the idle and top off and flush fluids.
To address *** claim I had explained my car work hours during the week and weekends
, also including my work hours 1pm to 11:pm on weekdays and had made that VERY clearI also explained during the outlined quote that the time frame would take a week to weeks at the most accounting for any trouble that we may run into as part delays/Orders or trouble shooting that could occur
When *** and *** showed up on Saturday April 4th to pick up his car I had had the vehicle idling in my driveway for about hours making sure that the Idle was adjusted correctly and fluids had been double checked and toped off while trouble shooting any existing engine codes that had shown up on the diagnose readerOne that had shown up was a pcrank sensor that was bad and the customers spouse (***) had dropped off and was replaced and cleared and the second pwas a bad Osensor which was causing the idle to fluctuate a minute amountI notified *** of everything I had gone over and double and triple checking everything including the engine code that remained and notified him the Osensor needed to be replaced and he said that was ok
I then took him on a test drive in the vehicle (I drove) as he was passenger and seemed to be in a coherent stateWe drove it for about @miles around my neighbor hood and he seemed very happy with the resultsI told when we arrived back that I noticed a knocking sound in the rear suspension and said his trailing arm was cracked and that he would replace it later.I also addressed and explained to dive it carefully because he didn't have any paperwork verifying the motor had been rebuilt / also to keep an eye on the water temp so that if it started to overheat to shut it off and call me (this was a just in case situation) as it had been running for the the ;art hours in my driveway and had the air burped from the coolant systemWhen *** left he seemed very happy and satisfied with the work completedI did not give him recipe because there was an unpaid balance of $additional to the labor because of the timing jobs I had completed
There after I got texts asking for the paperwork but I then explained again he could pick it up when he took care of the remaining balance
Since then I have not received and communication from either *** or *** about the balance or if I could help and look what happened to the engine after driving it for days and then going in a ditch
I offered to help and do an inspection but was told he's having someone else look at itwhen I was notified of this since he hadn't come back with payment or for his paperwork I verbally notified the both of them that if anybody else tampers or disassembles what I worked on it voids his warranty on the work that I didI also offered to come out and look at it while another person *** referred, did the tear down diagnosis and I received no response
Sincerely,
*** ***
