Ampco Electric Reviews (1)

Review: Ampco was to diagnose and fix the intermitten electrical power problem. The service person showed up 30 minutes late for the appointment and stayed for 45 minutes. During the 45 minutes stay, he was on the cell phone many times and solicited assistances from a person who is not a member of Ampco. After 45 minutes later he left without fixing the problem and without telling me (I was not there but another person was there). This was an emergency service call to fix the problem where house occupants were suffering without the power for days. When I called to find out what happened, the service man just stated already known facts (house is old and not correctly wired). He said he could usually find the problem based on his many years of electrician experience (quoted very high hourly rate) on the phone and yet he could not locate the problem nor fix the problem. The repair attempt was totally unprofessional. Yet, he still wants to get paid for a very high rate for his lack of his work performance and incapable. Few days later, another electrician found the problem in literally in minutes and fix the problem in one hour. My tenant, who was present, is a witness.Desired Settlement: The service charge was not paid since I was not there during the service. He sent me a bill to pay. I will not pay for just showing up and am seeking Revdex.com's help not to pay this person.

Response:

I received a letter from you and would like to respond to this complaint. l have been in business for over 30 years, and it has come to my attention that only people that do not want to pay for legitimate charges will try to get out of paying by complaining.

Prior to April 7th, 2014, I received a call from Mr. [redacted] asking if I would take a look at a situation at one of his rental properties. The rate for a service call up to 1 hour is $130.00 plus any materials. Anything after that would be billed at ‘15 hr increments, which he agreed. Also, I asked him who would be the personal responsible for payment because this was a rental property, and he told me I could trust him. Since this is a new customer, I wanted to be paid in full at time of service, but you can clearly see that I did not get paid, and he is looking to not pay me at all.

What happened that day was that I arrived at the premises, and the first thing that I checked was the circuit in question and I found that the tenant had been overloading the kitchen circuit with 2 refrigerators, a portable heater, and other kitchen appliances. To put it in my professional terms, I found the circuit wire in question showing evidence of overloading by the insulation on the conductor having been melted to the copper conductor. This caused the copper conductor wire to be very stiff. All the connections on the circuit and devices starting with the circuit breaker were cleaned and tightened. The tenant was instructed not to overload the circuit, which the tenant was not happy about, and the Electrician left within the 1 hr allotted time.

The recommendation that was written on a bill that was mailed to Mr. [redacted] after Mr. [redacted] had already, (unbeknownst to Ampco), complained to Revdex.com, was to install a new 120 volt 20 amp. Circuit to the area to correct the problem, and to fish the wires in the basement ceiling and walls. This recommendation was made due to the fact that damage to the wire, that was observed as mentioned above, was severe in nature and if continued could result in a dangerous situation.

With regard to the other Electrician showing up and being able to identify the problem right away is consistent with what I am saying. Any Licensed Electrician would see the evidence as stated above. Whether or not the Tenant decided to unplug the many items that were overloading the circuit prior to this other Electrician being called in is something I cannot address. All I know is l professionally did my job and the circuit was serviced and working when I left, and I am due my $130 service fee plus $10 material fee.
