Review: Anacapa Animal Hospital in Ventura, CA used the oldest scam in the book on me: 'Bait and Switch'. I called in advance to request prices for canine dental care, specifically teeth cleaning. I was quoted $250 - $350. I was very clear on the telephone, asking if the price was all inclusive. I was assured that it was, with the exception of extractions. They required an exam in advance. I brought in 2 of my dachshunds for exams for which they charged me $52.00 each. Then I received a quote for the service which included all sorts of additional fees. The range for the dental service was quoted at $844.52 - $1,221.52 for one of my small dogs. In fairness, there were additional fees for extractions ranging from $210-$390 that are included in the above price. I was, and am, outraged! These prices are exorbitant, and nothing more than a 'bait and switch'. I told the veterinary assistant about the price quote. She told me that their prices are never below $400, and then proceeded to insult my intelligence with the statement, "There must have been some sort of misunderstanding." No misunderstanding. I was very specific as to the ages of my dogs and I confirmed the information on the telephone - twice. I was lied to by the person on the telephone. This may be common practice, but it should not be tolerated.
