Anchorage Kid to Kid

I would like to add some information to the complaint I filed against the Kid to Kid children's consignment store in Anchorage, Alaska.1) The original date I purchased the car seat was on 8/19/15, not 8/20/15. 8/30/15 at 0030. The Kid to Kid store is closed on Sunday so we could not contact them immediately. I worked Monday and we had to find another car seat so my daughter did not return the seat until tuesday, 9/1/15.3) The manager initially stood behind her statement that the car seat was in good working order when sold, then retracted that statement and said she may have taken it apart when she cleaned it. I know this statement to be false as it did appear clean when I purchased it, but when I got it home and looked closer, all the seams at the back of the seat were filled with crumbs. If she had even turned it on it's side, these would not have been there.4) I was also sold two other defective items at this store, on the same day I purchased the car seat, which I returned and exchanged a few days later. I bought 3 footed, zip up toddler sleepers and upon closer inspection, the toes on 2 of them had holes. Since they have a policy of in store credit only, I exchanged them for other clothing items. I feel they do not inspect the clothes or other items (such as the car seat) carefully before selling them to the public.5) Since I was given assurance that the car seat had been fully inspected and checked to be in good working order, with all parts, I incorrectly assumed the person responsible for checking and examining car seats would be trained and a car seat technician. I called the State of Alaska and the fire department and was directed to the Alaska Child Passenger Safety Coalition ( Safe Kids at [redacted]) that does all the certifications for car seat technicians. [redacted], head of the coalition, told me that Kid to Kid does not have anyone who is trained and also that the State of Alaska has statues that prohibits the sale of used car seats by any business. State of Alaska CPS section 28.05.098. Car seats may be resold only by the original owner who can verify the car seat has never been in an accident. It must also have all it's parts and be in good working order. [redacted] stated she had already contacted another children's consignment store called [redacted] and they stopped selling used car seats as they were in violation of the state statute. If a business sells a used car seat, it is assumed by the statute they are representing the manufacturer of that car seat.6) Since we purchased a car seat from Kid to Kid and found the shoulder straps were not attached to any tightening mechanism, we were unable to safely secure the 19 month old on the ride home from the airport. When my son, a mechanic, took the seat apart on Sunday, in an attempt to fix the shoulder straps, he found loose parts. He could not put everything back together to the point where the shoulder straps would tighten appropriately, even with the manual, I am concerned that other car seats in their store may also be unsafe and put more children in jeopardy. Thank you for adding the additional information to my file.
