Anderson & Sons Automotive Reviews (3)

I took my car to this business on 10-28-13, I picked it up on 10-30-13. My car ran hot and I found out it was due to improper repairs by them.It was recommended I take my car to this business for repairs that my regular automotive shop could not do. I dropped my car off to [redacted] on 10-28-13 with the understanding that I needed to leave town for an event on 10-31-13. He called me about numerous repairs that were needed and my fiancé gave the go ahead to do them. Several phone calls were made between myself & [redacted] and [redacted] & my fiancé. The repairs were supposedly completed on 10-30-13. [redacted] called me to come pickup the vehicle. My fiancé paid $946.46 (CASH) for the repairs and I got in the car and went back to work only to discover the car was still smoking. I noticed something under the hood, lifted it and it was a dirty white rag and an antifreeze cap. I called [redacted] and he acted as if it was no big deal and apologized for leaving it under the hood and said oil and other fumes would be burning off, so it may smoke for a little while. On 10-31-13, I was preparing to leave town, later in the morning the car started boiling and I noticed the temp gage went ALL the way to HOT. I pulled over at Jimmy Johns, called my fiancé and then AAA. My intent was to have it towed back to my regular repair shop who had just replaced the thermostat. When I finally got there they discovered NUMEROUS things that had NOTHING to do with the repairs they did, but what was supposedly done by [redacted] which caused the car to run hot and several other things would have occurred later. It was work they could complete, so they did. I called, spoke to [redacted] and he acted as if it was NOT his fault. [redacted] spoke with the repair person ** at [redacted] and realized it WAS his fault, but offered NO help. ** then discovered several other things that were not done while repairs were supposedly done by [redacted] so I then called back to Anderson's to speak with a manager/owner. I talked to [redacted] then let him get the explanation from [redacted] kept asking why I didn't bring it back to them - I explained to him at least 5 times my car was boiling and I couldn't make it, PLUS I didn't think it was due to Anderson's repairs. ** told ** any work they had to do he would repay them or me for and to have me come to Andersons when I left [redacted] wrote the ticket for repairs, other issues and payment and I and my fiancé headed over to Andersons. When we got there I handed ** both repair tickets (his and [redacted] he looked at them, folded them up and gave them back to me. [redacted] and another repairman named [redacted] proceeded to lift my hood and stand looking under the hood with cigarettes in their hands. ** AGAIN asked why didn't I just bring it back to them. I AGAIN explained to him that I COULD NOT GET TO THEM and didn't think it was due to work Anderson's had done, so I took it back to the place I thought was as fault. I also mentioned the dirty rag and antifreeze cap left under the hood the day before and proceeded to tell [redacted] and [redacted] that I would NOT trust them to do anymore work to my car if they couldn't make sure SIMPLE things they was NOT done before were done. So I finally said to [redacted] if he wasn't talking about a refund, I didn't want to hear anything else he had to say and I would be contacting the Revdex.com and if necessary my attorney. I asked the to shut my hood if that was not the solution he was offering and let me go because I was already HOURS behind on getting to my destination for the weekend. All that ** and his repair men did was try to divert the blame to me and [redacted] and offered no solution what THEY had not done. Several screws were left off my plastic coverings which WERE there and [redacted] verified they were they when I bought the car to them, but were NOT there when I went back to them and they found all the mistakes Anderson's made. ** NEVER even offered to rent me a car so I could take my trip, NOR did he pay me for the work [redacted] completed and he told ** he would. Nor has he called since I left to try and rectify the issue, so this is where we are and I am FURIOUS to say the leastDesired SettlementI am seeking a FULL refund from Anderson's & Sons. They could not secure, what was explained as MINOR things in their efforts to repair the vehicle. ** even said, when I talked to him what was not done was something simple and could be repaired in minutes. I drove the vehicle this weekend but it is STILL jerking slightly. and I would not trust them to do any other repairs to my vehicle. I need to take it to another repair shop to ensure I am safe and where I can get good customer service. ** even promised [redacted] he would take care of anything they had to do and he didn't even offer THAT, even after seeing the repair ticket. My fiance paid [redacted] 95.81 for repairs on 10-31-13. That is the ONLY resolution acceptable in this case and should be understandable seeing as though the car was at their repair shop for 2 days and SEVERAL things were and are STILL not repaired. Thank you! Business Response We are sorry to respond so slowly to this complaint. Ms [redacted] car came to us from a referral from another shop that could not handle the repairs. We did major work to her engine to repair it, timing belt and components, water pump, front seals(leaking oil) we also repaired wiring harness problems to the coils that run down along the timing covers. She paid her bill and picked up her car. a small return hose on the coolant tank reservoir came off and her car ran hot. Instead of calling us she went somewhere else. Then that shop obviously told her something that made her mad. Once she arrived we tried to talk to her, but she was irrate the entire time, not wanting to discuss what happened, but just blame us and demand a full refund of her money. The hose was a simple clamp issue that would only take a couple of minutes and some antifreeze/coolant. She also complained of bolts missing on the covers and said they were there before and that we must have used them somewhere else. We again tried to explain to her that these bolts were missing when the car arrived to our shop, and that they are special shouldered bolts that would not fit anywhere else. Again the customer was just so argumentative and seemed to be only interested in a full refund. Her car was still running and the repairs we did fixed the problems it came to our shop with. she left demanding a full refund which we were not going to do. If I can be of further help contact me via email, [redacted].com [redacted]Consumer Response Because Anderson's and Sons did not respond within the alloted time required by the Revdex.com, other actions will be taken to settle this case. Thank you.

Complaint[redacted] & [redacted]...What can you say about towing predators that tow my sons vehicle as he is moving his friend back into her dorm. This company is a money grab company with a history. He also damaged the vehicle because he is incompetent in his position as well as uses foul language at me on the phone and threatens my son as to belittle him. He's an overweight man that likes to use his size to intimidate [redacted] students. He uses his wife as a secretary riding along answering calls that she has no business answering. I asked multiple questions to which she had to refer to [redacted]. He is Very unprofessional,[redacted], he uses crooked tactics and NOT RECCOMENDED for use for any service. Maybe his father [redacted] can teach his son something about courtesy...or maybe he already has? The apple does not usually fall very far from the tree.Cons: Ridiculous fees, damages cars that he tows, threatens customers when he is proven wrong, and needs to have his license revoked.Desired SettlementThey need to fix my sons car and stop scare tactics when dealing with customers.

I wish to file a complaint about the "service" I received from the above repair shop located at 110 W. 14th Street in Greenville, N.C. [redacted] In mid-April 2014 I took my '[redacted] to a service station to correct a coolant leak. The owner inspected my car and pointed out a corroded and leaking "freeze plug" in the lower front of the engine block. He advised me to have ALL the freeze plugs replaced since--according to him--the plugs corrode from the inside out and there was no way to determine the current state of the other (unknown number, 6-8) freeze plugs . He further stated that the job would be very expensive possibly requiring the transmission to be either removed or repositioned thus making it prudent to replace ALL the plugs after having gone to the trouble of repositioning the transmission and/or engine. He stated that he did not do this type of repair in his shop. On a recommendation of a friend I took the car over to Anderson & Sons Automotive who accepted the job. I told them--VERY SPECIFICALY ---that I wanted ALL the freeze plugs replaced and NEW ones installed. Anderson and Sons have a number of mechanics at their garage and I have spoken with them all at various times: [redacted] They have another employee who is a member of the [redacted]. in some capacity.(I do not know his name) After a week or so I was called and told the car was ready to be picked up. I began driving by returning the "[redacted] employee" back to Anderson and Sons. I instantly found the car's transmission was not shifting into second gear properly. This WAS NOT a problem prior to the "repair" The mechanic told me "This will work itself out in a few miles." This turned out to be untrue ! On 8-7-14 I paid [redacted] $323 to correct the shifting problem. My [redacted] has always been driven sparingly and used mostly as a "truck" to haul lumber and building materials for my rental business. During the late summer of 2014 the car began to overheat after 5 miles or so (requiring me to fill the radiator each before driving it.) Knowing that I had just spent $795.34 to replace ALL the freeze plugs I was confident that the source of the "new"leak was in a faulty hose or possibly the radiator. With no anticipation of further use after the summer I parked my [redacted] over at a vacant rental property and, since the water had all drained out I considered the car "winterized" against sub-freezing temps. Several weeks ago I filled the radiator and took my [redacted] over to a trusted service station and had them check all my hoses and connections. I was told that water was pouring from the holes in the block where freeze plugs were entirely MISSING! Naturally I was extremely upset. I drove the [redacted] back to Anderson and Sons and told them what Had transpired and insisted that they redo the job.....and I told [redacted] (?) that I DID NOT expect to receive a bill for the "re-do" They claimed that it was MY fault for not putting antifreeze in the car --despite my explanation that putting Antifreeze that would have leaked out of the block in a few min.along with the water was POINTLESS. I tried to explain that when I parked the [redacted] for the winter it was not retaining water in the cooling system (At that time remember I thought the leak was a radiator hose or possibly a water pumpmalfunction) Also the car's cooling system was virtually empty and it was late November------far from the first sub-freezing days of winter. After a week or so I noticed Anderson and Sons had moved the car from inside their garage to an adjacent lot. On Monday April 20,2015 picked up my keys after being told they WOULD NOT be installing new freeze plugs in my car.Desired Settlement I intend to have my [redacted] correctly repaired. I am seeking a refund of the $795.34 .In my opinion their refusal to do the repair job correctly was dishonest, unscrupulous , and certainly not deserving of a recommendation by the Revdex.com. Needless to say I never want their organization touching a vehicle of mine. If need further information please contact me by e-mail or phone 1-[redacted]/ Thanks, [redacted]Business Response We pulled the transmission and replaced the freeze plugs on the back of the motor and all other freeze plugs that were accesible without more added labor time because the customer did not want to spend more money. We only put water into the customers car and no ANITFREEZE because he specifically stated that he only wanted water in it and he did not want to spend more money. The receipt we gave him stated that his transmission did not shift correctly when we road tested it. This was obviously a problem when it came to us. The customer came back with the car this April 2015 nearly 1 year to the day and stated that his freeze plugs had came out. We checked his vehicle and found a couple of freeze plugs that were visibly gone. We put in 2 temporary rubber plugs and then pressure tested and realized that even the ones behind the transmission were leaking as well. It is clear to us as mechanics that the customer never put anitfreeze in his car. Thus over the winter months at some time the freeze plugs did what they are intended for. They popped out to PROTECT THE ENGINE FROM BEING DAMAGED. He stated in his complaint that he had other leaks throughout the summer and why did he not come back and have it checked then? Why did he not completely fix his vehcile to protect himself from further damages? When the customer came in to check on his vehcile myself and several others were in the office and can testify that the customer clearly stated that his vehicle did not need antifreeze in it. We are not responsible for his unwillingness to properly maintain his vehicle. We have replaced many freeze plugs in other vehciles in the past and have never had this situation happen before. Consumer Response The first lie in Anderson & Sons answer to my complaint was that I instructed them to use their"Judgement" regarding freeze plug replacement. I clearly told them "replace ALL freeze plugs" andat no time altered this point. True- I did tell them NOT to put Antifreeze in the car in April '14 because 1-NO freezing temps and 2-I already had 2 gallons of A/F at home and was quite capable of adding it prior to sub-freezing temps. As summer of 2014 ended remember that the car was leaking coolant rapidly BUT SINCE I HADJUST HAD ALL THE FREEZE PLUGS" REPLACED" I feltcomfortable in thinking this coolant loss wasa leaky fitting or hosesince I no longer needed the wagon for hauling lawn mowers aroundto cut grass at my rentals and had no plans forrenovations requiring lumber, building materials,et. al. It was more prudent (TIMEWISE) just to filthe system for the short hop over to [redacted]. I saw no reason to return to [redacted]/Sons since the wagon would have to be left for an unknown time.[redacted] /Sons entire "defense" seems to be overmy "no antifreeze" request in the late spring of2014 when there was FAR PAST freezing temps. sndI had antifreeze on hand at home when needed. When my car was initially picked up following the "freeze plug REPLACEMENT" the transmission had a "jarring" shift from 1st to second gear. I immediately noticed it and complained several times to the Anderson & Sons mechanic (the onewho works at the [redacted] police department) Hestated that "that will disappear in a short while" I should have immediately returned the wagon to Anderson& Sons but since the mechanicwas an officer of the law I mistakenly believedhis statement. Bad Idea. The faulty shifting didnot"correct itself" and I ended up by taking thecar to [redacted] Transmissions on 8-7-14 and having the problem fixed for an additional $323.30 I hadno plans to ever return to Anderson & Sons for future work on any of my cars. The second LIE inAnderson & Sons response was that my wagon hadthis shifting problem when they first saw it !!!This is a baldface LIE and they know it !! An EMPTY (most of the water and antifreeze gone) engine block sitting in sub-freezing tempswill not "freeze thus making properly installedfreeze plugs pop out!" Simple physics. put several inches of water in a can and leave it outside in the dead of winter. The water will freeze but since THERE IS ROOM IN THE CAN FOR THEWATER TO EXPAND there will be NO PRESSURE causingthe can to split (or pop out its "freeze plugs" (if it had them) This same principle applies toa virtually empty engine block! My engine blockjust like the candid NOT have a thing to dowith my freeze plugs "popping out" as describedby Anderson & Sons. Just another attempt to "cover up" their sketchy workmanship. Till now I have not been able to locate myAnderson and Son's receipt (yellow) for thisjob costing $795.34. I gave one of the Anderson brothers ([redacted] ?) a self-addressed, stamped envelope and requested a copy be sent to me butstill no response. I DO have the cancelled check. To date I am out a total of $1,118.64 for a job improperly performed and a correction of theirscrewup repositioning my transmission. Plus I still have to have the freeze plug repair done. Since Anderson and Sons have refused to redothe job-CORRECTLY I have no choice but to pursuethis matter through small claims court. In the interest of time and further expense I am preparedto accept half this amount$560 to settle all differences between myself and Anderson & Sons.
