Sandhills Women's Care Reviews (%countItem)

I was told by the staff at the doctors office that I would not be charged for the 5 mins consultation visit. When I received the bill it was for $200
I went into the Sandhills Women's Care office in April and also in May. The visit in April was a consultation for birth control that I have had before. I had already spoken with my insurance and was told that it would be covered by my insurance free of charge. At the office I was told this appointment would be free of charge. The visit would be to make sure that the insurance would cover the birth control, which I was already aware it would. After the consultation visit I had to come back a few week later to get the birth control inserted. After the procedure was finished the doctor set up another appointment for me to come back in so she could make sure I was healing properly. That appointment would be in 6 weeks. In between that insertions appointment and me waiting the 6 weeks, I get a bill in the mail from the doctors office. I was completely surprised when it said I owed almost $200 for something that was suppose to be free. I immediately call the doctors office which has terrible customer service. You have to leave a message to speak with anyone about anything. So I leave a message and the receptionist gets back to me just to say I have to call the billing office at the hospital. So I call them and file a claim about my bill. It took them 1-2 months to get back in touch with me. They basically said that all their offices charge a fee whether you are seen 2 minutes or 60 minutes. So when I heard that I call to cancel that follow up appointment. I have had this birth control before so I can tell if it wasn't heeling properly. This has been an ongoing battle since about June. I just want to get this resolved as quickly as possible.

Desired Outcome

I have not had a resolution with this bill. It is still the same price and has not be paid. I feel like the visit should be free since that is what I was told.

Sandhills Women's Care Response

We are very sorry that the patient was unsatisfied and for any miscommunication on our behalf. Unfortunately, patient office visits and consultations are not free of charge. Patient paperwork explains their financial responsibility for services in our office. New patient consultation visits are required by the physician before further services can be completed. This is an opportunity to make sure the patient is healthy and ensure there are no reasons why any additional services should not be received. The services received by the patient at her second visit were covered by her insurance in full but the first visit is the patients responsibility according to her insurance company. Again, we are sorry for any miscommunication. The patient has the option of setting up payment arrangements- such as a payment plant or if she wishes can reach out to her insurance company for why payment was denied for her first visit. I would be pleased to discuss this with the patient further if she desires to do so.
