Andre Chreky, Inc Reviews (1)

Review: My 15 year old daughter, [redacted], went to have her hair done at Andre Chreky by a stylist whom she had been seeing at another salon for a few years. He normally charged her $100. On the date when she visited Andre Chreky, neither she nor her parent was advised prior to receiving the salon services that the price would increase to $285. At the end of her session, they had her sign a receipt, for the first time advising her of the different price. When I called the salon to ask if it was their policy to notify clients of the price of their services prior to performing them, I was told yes. However, they did not do this with my daughter and she was just surprised with the triple the normal fee at the very end. The salon also told me that they meant to only charge her $225.00, but they never issued me a credit.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of $185.00, because my minor daughter shouldn't have been charged more than $100, which is what she understood she was going to be charged. They should not have raised the price on a minor, or anyone else for that matter, without notifying her in advance. Furthermore, the company did not honor its own policy of notifying her of the price in advance.

I am rejecting this response because:

the salon is not acknowledging or addressing many of the facts that I presented. For example, it is not addressing the fact that my 15 year old daughter had a lengthy history with her stylist [redacted] of being charged only $100. As a 15 year old who is inexperienced with credit and pricing matters, it did not occur to her that the price would almost triple at his new location. Her stylist [redacted] had the obligation to inform her of the exorbitant increase in the price and did not. Furthermore, the salon specifically stated to me on the phone when I called to complain that it was their policy to inform clients of the price of the services prior to providing them. Their price notification policy was the first thing I asked them about on the phone, prior to telling them what had happened with my daughter, and they did acknowledge that it was their policy to keep customers informed prior to providing their services. Yet, they did not follow this policy when it came to my daughter.

It is also untrue that I refused the $60 credit. I said I would take the credit, but that I would nonetheless continue to file a dispute with my credit card company because the $60 credit was insufficient. They did not ask me for the credit card information, I was told I would receive a return call, which I did not. Moreover, according to the salon's own price list, even $225 is an overcharge. The price list online lists a permanent at starting at $100. My daughter only got a minor permanent, also knows as a touch up, meaning less than one inch of her hair was treated. Therefore, the salon cannot justify charging her more than $100 for the touchup. But of course, given the unethical way the salon has handled our complaint, I would not be surprised if they allege that a minor touchup should not be at the bottom end of their relaxer pricing when it should not. Further, a cut and blow is listed at $55-80. Even if they charged her the maximum of $80, which they should not since her hair is short, then her services, according to their own price list, wouldn't be more than $180, but should really be more towards $155. Therefore, they are not even honoring their price list in this situation. Furthermore, there is not another salon in the area that would charge someone $285 or even $225 for a small touchup and trim and blow. I would be happy to provide the other estimates I've been collecting, as well as the names and locations of the other salons.

Finally, I must say that I'm shocked and disappointed that a salon claiming to be of the magnitude that Chreky likes to think of itself as would still like to gouge and take advantage of my 15 year old daughter's naivete in credit and pricing matters. She honestly walked into the salon believing she would be charged $100, as [redacted] had been charging her for over a year. [redacted] had the responsibility to notify her there would be an increase when he changed salons, and the salon is responsible for [redacted]'s negligence. The irony is that the salon expected a 15 year old to take multiple actions to assure she would not be overcharged, yet they are not holding themselves, grown adults, to the same standard of taking actions to keep their customers informed and protected from unfair or surprise pricing. Indeed, as previously stated, the salon neglected to follow their own policy of notifying a client of the price prior to providing services, and is not even honoring their published price list. It is truly disappointing that their greed and lack of customer service and ethics are preventing them from trying to keep a customer happy.

I am rejecting this response because:

1) The vendor has not addressed the fact that the price charged for the services does not match their online price list. I discussed this at length in my last correspondence.

2) The vendor has not addressed the fact that we were told by the reception during our first call, prior to us telling the receptionist our situation, that it is the salon's policy to notify customers of the price of their services prior to providing them. Unfortunately for us, the salon deviated from its practice when it came to a 15 year old.

3) Although the vendor claims that the stylist is an independent contractor, because the stylist is operating in the salon, and the salon is collecting the fees, and the stylist is using the vendor's name and facilities, I am puzzled as to why the salon has so little interest in ensuring that fair business practices are implemented for their establishment, such as informing a 15 year old that the price of her services would triple. Ultimately, the salon is responsible because the stylist is a representative of the salon.
