Review: Did not replace warped rotten wood while charging to high of a price.Entire job looks terrible because new metal is nailed to bad wood.Rule of thumb is replace bad wood when doing this type of work. Also you must buy a twenty square roll of this metal from Eglert in manassas. My roof only required ten.Contractor then charges me for whole role keeps the other half to sell to someone else.He also does not show contract that he maid up to benefit himself until after he rips my old one off, leaving me no choice but to sign so roof work would continue so house would not be exposed in november elements. Contract does not state when payment is needed expected or wanted. Also traded 98 [redacted] pickup truck as down payment which I did not tell him I wanted to give as down payment but he cried that he wanted it off the bat because he had a job for it so me being nice I gave it to him. He also wanted me to give him tags off of my other vehicle so he could drive it away but I gave him a farm use tag instead.I asked Andy over the the phone about wood repairs he said he'd go get what he needed that, that was just small stuff to him.Desired Settlement: Come back to my house take metal up carefully replace warped rooten wood so roof will be level and replace rooten wood on front and back of house.also take 1200 dollars of bill.

Response:

12/29/2014Dear [redacted],I am going to respond to customer's statement as they appear on the letter.Customer's first complaint: Warped deteriorated woodAs roofing description states in the invoice statement from ACR, these sections of roof was removed on 11/10/2014. There was absolutely no deteriorated wood under these sections of roof, as owner was there and observing these sections. He was informed that no deteriorated wood was found. However, there was one board on breezeway section that was cracked on both ends. I informed him of this and let him know that we could replace it but it was not necessary because metal can span over these two small sections, without any issues for the metal roof. He checked to see if he had any wood and stated that he did not, and not to worry about it. This was witnessed by several ACR employees of this conversation and of the wood decking under the existing roof. The issue with the warped wood, was under roof decking boards "the framing” of the roof. This would have nothing to do with a roofing contractor. The entire roof decking would need to be removed to inspect why roof ridge was sagging in the middle. In my 30 years of roofing experience, this problem occurs because of age and insufficient framing for supporting roof rafters and roofing. This would not be a project for a roofing contractor, this is for a framing contractor. After receiving a threatening message from customer stating he was going to turn me into the Revdex.com. We have the message saved stating that he knew that wood replacement wasn't in the contract. I called customer and explained to him that this issue was not a roofing issue but a framing issue and told him he could possibly try jacking up center of garage roof to help with sagging. I informed him that it could wrinkle metal from this and was not recommended. He informed me that he was okay with this.Customer's second complaint: Charging to high of priceEstimate was given to customer by phone, $6,670.00, and discussed trading of 1998 [redacted] Pickup as down payment which had a “for Sale” sign in window. We discussed the price of the truck, of $3000.00 and using it as down payment for roof, which he agreed upon approximately 10/28/2014. We also discussed and set the start date for 11/10/2014.Customer's third complaint: Purchase of metal to do roof workCustomer stated that ACR bought a 20 “square" roll of metal from [redacted] in Manassas, Virginia. First of all, I do not purchase material from Manassas. Material was purchased from [redacted] in Winchester, Virginia. This metal only comes in 2 roll sizes, first is 1000 square feet rolls, which covers 5 square of roof. Second roll is 2000 square feet rolls, which covers 10 square of roofing. This is what was purchased for his roof to cover his 10 square roofing job...not the 20 square roll which he is claiming. Roll sizes can be confirmed from Winchester [redacted]. Even if extra material had to be purchased for this roofing project, the customer only gets charged for the material used for that project.Customer's fourth complaint: Signing of contractACR showed up at customer's location at approximately 8:30am on 11/10/2014. I informed the employees of the work to be performed and they proceeded with the job. At that time, I met with customer for signing of invoices. Customer looked over invoice and signed, leaving him with one copy of invoice. I retained a copy for myself. Customer's complaint that roof was torn off before signing took place was not true. I would never proceed with a job without signatures of both agreeing upon job description. This is normal business procedures.Customer's fifth complaint: Contract does not state when payment is expectedWork was finished the week of 11/10/2014 except for snowbirds which were installed the following week. Job was completed the week of 11/17/2014. Our first conversation occurred approximately 5-7 days after job completion for final payment for roof. At that time he stated that he had seen where snowbirds were installed and he would be sending out a check for the balance due when he returned home that week. He stated he was out of town doing a job. There was never a discussion of his concerns about the roof. No payment was received. I made a second phone call on approximately 12/1//2014 requesting final payment. Customer did not answer and I left a voice message requesting payment. Customer left a message later in the day stating that he was not happy with the roof and was going to call the Revdex.com. We still have this message from customer stored on the phone. Final payment is expected upon completion of job.Customer's sixth complaint: 1998 [redacted] PickupTruck being used as down paymentCustomer agreed upon 1998 [redacted] PickupTruck as down payment towards roof. After arriving that morning customer was loading this truck with scrap material to take to salvage yard. He told me he was going to use it to do so. I felt this was not appropriate since this was part of the agreement, however, I didn't say anything to him about this. He had access to other trucks in the driveway that he could have used. At that time, I asked him since he was going to the scrap yard, did he want us to load his old metal to turn in. He stated, “yes” and moments later said “no, he was not going to the scrap yard". At approximately 11:30am I asked for the title for the truck. I had other commitments in the afternoon and needed to leave. The customer went to get the title and he returned with it moments later. I looked at the title to make sure the signatures were correct. At that time noticed the title was not in his name, questioned him about this and he stated that he never titled the truck in his name after purchasing it. I had concerns about this not knowing who these people were and transferring it into my name. There were no issues at DMV with this. I called my insurance company before leaving the customers property and insured the vehicle in my name. The truck only had “Farm Use" tags on it. I asked customer if it was okay to leave these tags on there until later in the day as I was going to have it tagged in my name. He agreed upon this without hesitation, only asking could we bring the tags back to him the next day, which we did. I would never ask him to take tags off of another vehicle of his to put on this vehicle, especially when I have three vehicles of my own at the customers location.Thank you for your time.
