Initial Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2015/05/08) */
To Whom it May Concern:
This is in respopnse to the painting of a new bumper of a car,
Case: #[redacted]
[redacted]t owner of West'sAuto Body Shop, in response to calling the dealership:
If I have a question or can not find the paint number I...

call the dealership's parts department and give them the vehecles VIN number which was [redacted] which is a 2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse paint number WO Dover White Pearl.
This matched one of the numbers on the car. I then called my paint supplier and ordered the paint that I use. This is a B.A.S.E. paint product number W69 Dover White. There are thinners added to the paint to make them sprayabie that I already have for that line.
In response to getting a perfect paint match on a 2004 that is a pearl color, is half of the time they will match very closely and the other half they don't match well, If repairing and painting on an insurance job the adjusters allow extra time and materials to blend into adjacent panels to achieve the appearance of paint matching. When the bumper was dropped off I did tell her fiance that I could not guarantee the paint matching. However she was not here. She had left in the truck to go get the car for the paint number. I still have the paint can I ordered with the

paint number on it (W69 Dover White),
l charged $160.00 for labor and materials, so whoever did the paint job before me charged her twice as much if her total was over $500.00.
My resolve to this problem would be:
1. She buys the paint and the right thinner for the paint and I will repaint and clearcoat free of labor charges. (For free) There is no guarantee the paint will match.
2. If she has enough paint leftover (From whoever did the job before me and the paint flaked off.) ,enough to blend into the bumper cover and next to the fenders and hood (112 pint of thinned out paint.) With a clearcoat the paint should match like she stated it did before.
Getting paint to match is the hardest job of painting and is not always possible.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 11, 2015/05/09) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
In the first statement I made about 500$ wasted, this included the 60$ bumper, 160$ job, and the previous job of 100$ bumper and 90$ for paint with a 100$ paint job.
I have visted two body shops prior to the event, which both stated the job was way off, even when considering the paint isnt an exact match ever.
As for the proposed solutions, I do not have enough paint left, and to purchase the paint and the thinner (i do not know what that cost is) I would still be looking at, assuming no raise in price 90$ in paint.
I do not know the quality of the paint job, but there was a run in the paint and I do not feel comfortable getting a repaint done over that, which means I pay another 60$ for a new bumper and am unsure it will turn out any better as he states, especially with the no guarantee policy I was not told upfront.
I would still like to see a refund of the 160$ I paid, and take my vehicle to a place that guarantees their work.

Case: XXXXXXXX
My proposal to solve paint match problem would be to lighten paint bought with bright
white to get a better paint match. It may not be perfect but it will be closer. This will be
at no cost to the owner.
The small run in clear coat on the bottom of the bumper and quality of paint job wasn't an
issue when picked up and paid for. The bumper was hanging from the ceiling and the owner
was able to look closely at it and was happy how it looked.
Buying a new bumper because of a paint match would be a waste of money. The bumper is in
good shape.
The bumper by itself was dropped off with nothing to compare the new paint to on an 11 year
old car. We would need the vehicle here to compare paint. (It wasn't here the first time.)
Another proposal would be to refund $80.00.
The bumper was sanded, cleaned, and sprayed with an adhesion promoter and then painted
with a clear coat over that. A total of 3+ hours labor.
The owner did get a quality paint job. The paint is just not a perfect match.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
I feel the 80$ refund proposal is fair enough. It still doesn't fix the problem, but it is far better than the original statement I was given at the time of my first in person complaint.
