Review: Mr. Angelito Chua is a certified CPA and has done our taxes for years. It's unfortunate that the year we decided not to go with him, that we received a letter from the IRS stating we owed $865 for 2012 that he filed. We met with Mr. Chua on a Friday evening, and signed a Power of Attorney stating that he will act on our behalf and contact IRS to fix the issue. My husband received a call from Mr. Chua's son, [redacted], the following Monday and states that his father (Angelito Chua) left out of the country and that we had to pay what was owed. I don't understand how and when he was able to contact IRS, between meeting with him on a Friday evening at 6pm and when my husband got the call from his son early Monday morning. It's very upsetting because we trusted this CPA, when he said he would contact IRS when he never did. My husband called IRS, the following day (Tuesday) and according to IRS, no one had called on our behalf. I understand that we did receive a refund for that year, however we would have rather not received it to avoid paying $865, that we do NOT have. According to IRS, the tax forms he submitted was incomplete and missing certain forms.Another issue is that my mother in law had filed 10 years worth of taxes with Mr. Angelito Chua, only to receive a letter back from the IRS that they can only go back 3 years. As a CPA, shouldn't he know all the regulations? My mother in law paid him up front, and never received a refund or was ever compensated for the years she should not have filed in the first place. My family is truly disappointed in his service and we feel cheated by him.Desired Settlement: We are requesting that Mr. Angelito Chua pay back my mother in law for services that should NOT have been done in the first place. He gave her wrong information stating she can go back and file 10 years worth of taxes.

On October 27, 2014, I was scheduled to travel to the Philippines. In order to accommodate Mr. and Mrs. [redacted], I met with them on the evening of Friday October 24, 2014. During our meeting, I prepared the power of attorney form 2848, just in case I needed to contact the IRS. That weekend, I further reviewed the IRS assessment letter that they received, and determined that the IRS was correct on their assessment. Since my trip out of the country was closely approaching, I was not able to find time to meet with them in person and tell them that I believed the IRS was correct. However, I asked my son, [redacted], to communicate with them to relay my findings. As they learned of my findings, they went ballistic (especially Mrs. [redacted]). I have done them a lot of favors in the past, and I do not mind helping them whichever way I can, free of charge. I have been a CPA since 1981, with a record with no blemishes. My first priority is serving my client’s needs, at a fair and affordable rate. In fact, in 2012, Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] asked me for a discount in my fees. I obliged by only charging them $125.00 for my tax preparation services. In addition, Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] failed to provide me with several tax documents and information which resulted in the assessment of additional taxes. Regarding Mrs. [redacted]’s mother-in-law’s past 10 years of tax returns, I was specifically asked by her mother-in-law to prepare them. Some of the returns resulting in a tax refund, but were beyond the statute, did not generate a refund to her. I know the regulations. Even if she will not be receiving a tax refund for delinquent tax returns, doesn’t mean that she can just neglect to file them. It is everyone’s obligation to file their tax return, irrespective of whether you will receive a tax refund or not. Tax regulations need to be followed. I have never received a complaint from Mrs. [redacted]’s mother-in-law. I believe that Mrs. [redacted] is out of line to complain about an issue that does not concern her.
