given over the phone and the owner stated that the dog “was a puppy,” after which he was told our standard neuter price for puppies (<20lb). The owner arrived the next morning with a [redacted]'s Certificate, which is a program normally utilized by low income families with children who otherwise may have a difficult time paying to spay/neuter their animals but still deserve to experience the joy of pet ownership. [redacted] was unclear about the certificate, and did not read the reverse side disclaimers of the program. The [redacted]'s Certificate covers the examination, surgery, [redacted], and suture removal, it very clearly states, however; what it does not cover in terms of medication (pain, [redacted],) injections, cost of [redacted] and ot her services as well as dogs over 30 pounds require more [redacted]. This client had no intention of listening to the disclaimer when the [redacted] attempted to discuss it with him, and simply told us to “get it done.” When he arrived to pick up the dog following the surgical procedure he was livid and violent when we attempted to explain the additional fees. We did not lower the fee, which covered necessary medications for followup care, it was stated to be $235 intially and remained that. After very rudely behaving toward the staff in our clinic, [redacted] attempted to abandon his dog in the clinic without paying the bill. [redacted] attempting to cheat us for our services to his luxury Cane Corso breed is comparable to a [redacted] owner attempting to receive a free oil change. It is very unfortunate that our participation in this low cost program is hindered and met with such hostility by clients who do not appreciate the time, expertise, and effort we spend I n every surgery and with every animal we care for. [redacted] wrongfully wrote that he was accused of being a welfare recipient, which is untrue, the doctor only told him the goal of the [redacted]'s Certificate program was to assist low income and welfare pet owners. We are very hurt by this, clients like these are the reason practitioners are abandoning the program, and it is because of this we are unlikely to accept other clients who simply want a cheap surgery without any followup care. We will refund [redacted] the $80.00 fee for the additional [redacted], we will not however refund the cost of the post operative medications, injections, [redacted] and any additional services which he knew that he was required to pay beforehand.
