This letter is in response to the concerns stated by Ms. [redacted] regarding her dog, [redacted], while he was under the care of Animal Hospital of Factoria (AHOF.)[redacted] was brought to our facility with severe dental disease. post-operative pain medication, then monitored and allowed to rest. The only time that he was taken from his kennel that evening was to be walked outside to eliminate. We tried to feed [redacted] that evening but he was uninterested in food. As he’d had multiple dental extractions, we offered him soft food in order to assist him in eating, as well as feeding him by hand. [redacted] rested comfortably overnight. The next morning [redacted] was alert; he went outside to eliminate and was offered food. Our veterinarian examined him and determined that he was recovering as expected after surgery. Due to the loss of teeth that previously stabilized his tongue, he was having difficulty eating, so the Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) offered him broken-up pieces of soft food, which he ate well; the rest of the food was left for him to eat on his own. [redacted] was whining in his kennel and standing near the front of his cage, acting agitated. Whenever the LVTs walked by, his whining increased, so he was checked for signs of pain or discomfort. [redacted] appeared to be seeking attention, so an LVT wrapped a towel around him and held him in her lap for approximately 10 minutes. Veterinary journals report that wrapping a patient and providing physical contact to an agitated patient is beneficial. At no point was [redacted] mishandled or carried around the hospital. He was taken from his kennel, held safely, and walked to a chair. Afterwards, he was placed back in his kennel and taken outside only to eliminate until his owner arrived. We are mystified by Ms. [redacted]’s perception that [redacted] was offered anything but excellent medical care and attention as warranted for any recovering patient. Our LVTs are well trained and have been working in the veterinary field for many years. Mistreatment of animals has never been and never will be tolerated in our clinic. We would be more than happy to discuss this issue with Ms. [redacted]. Unfortunately she never asked for our input or clarification of what actually happened before lodging complaints and threatening AHOF with a lawsuit.
