Anytime Blacksburg

Review: I signed up with a friend last year for a two year membership with Anytime Fitness. I enrolled in auto pay with my banks debit card. In June of this year I got a new card and it slipped my mind to change the card information with this business, as I did with all my other auto draft accounts. I did not even realize the account was not being paid until today. I never received any notice from them saying that my payment had not gone through. Today I received word from my spouse, of whom I am separated, saying that a lawyer had called him on behalf of Anytime Fitness and was threatening to not only take me to court but him also, his name was nowhere on my contract so I don't know how they found his contact info, for my debt. I called the number given by the "lawyer" and after waiting several minutes for him to finish up with another client he got on the phone with me and told me the company had sent me several letters to my home address, emails and phone calls; all of which I never received. He then demanded that I pay a balance of $410 today on the phone with a check. When I told him that I did not have the money to pay that he proceeded to tell me I needed to get my priorities straight and pay them instead of rent for my children to have a home. My debt to Anytime Fitness would only be $69 each month my account was behind and another $19 each month for late charges. I do not know where the $410 is coming from. I was told I have until none tomorrow 9/29/2015 to pay the amount due or face civil charges of approx $1300 and they would take any and all property of mine to fulfill my debt. I was left in a very panicked consolable state unable to breathe while at my daughters school. I suffer from extreme anxiety and panic attacks, for which I am under medical care for and this triggered a terrible attack. I am upset with the way things turned out because I really enjoyed using this businesses facilities.Desired Settlement: The elimination of any and all debt owed to Anytime Fitness and termination of the rest of the contractual agreement with no further contact from this company or any of it's representatives. And even though I feel I should receive some type of compensation for the emotional distress I experienced I doubt the company would comply with that.

Response by Anytime Fitness Blacksburg to Revdex.com complaint of [redacted]ID: [redacted] signed up for a one-year membership at Anytime Fitness Blacksburg on 4/7/2014, and opted for auto renewal after completion of the one-year contract term. Auto renewal permits a member to continue gym membership on a month-to-month basis after completion of the contract term. A 30-day notice is required to cancel a month-to-month membership. All membership information is included in the membership agreement that [redacted] signed, and received a copy of, on 4/7/2014.Billing for all Anytime Fitness Blacksburg memberships is handled by [redacted], an independent billing company. All payments on [redacted]’s account were timely and up-to-date until 7/7/2015, when her credit card was declined. It is now known that her credit card was declined because her credit card company had issued her a new credit card with an updated expiration date. Note that on 6/1/2015, four attempts were made by phone by [redacted] to contact [redacted] to advise her that her credit card was about to expire.Numerous attempts were made by [redacted] to contact [redacted] by phone regarding her account: in total, starting on 7/8/2015,over 70 attempts were made to contact [redacted] at the phone numbers she gave on her membership agreement. It is now known that these attempts were futile since [redacted]’s home phone was no longer in service and her cell phone number had changed. On 9/26/2015, [redacted]’s account was referred to an independent collections agency.On 9/29/2015, [redacted] came to Anytime Fitness Blacksburg. On that date, [redacted]’s credit card billing information (expiration date) was updated, her phone contact information was updated, and payment to bring her account current was made. All service fees and all late fees stemming from missed payments on her account were waived by Anytime Fitness Blacksburg. In her words, [redacted] considered the case resolved. [redacted] is considered a member in good standing at Anytime Fitness Blacksburg.
