Apache Handyman & Brush Clearing Reviews (1)

Review: Apache did unsatisfactory work clearing snow from about fifty yards of gravel road--removed too much gravel and went farther than instructed.

We had a heavy snow on December 6-7, and a neighbor arranged for Apache to come and clear the snow from a portion of gravel road that we share. I was also eager to have the snow cleared from part of an access road that leads to my home. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be home when Apache arrived late on the morning of December 12, so my neighbor handled the communication and supervision. Apache went farther down my road than instructed and so damaged some grading--a rolling dip important to control water flow--I had done a year ago. Apache also removed most of the gravel that forms the road, leaving raw dirt that will not weather or wear as well as the gravel. When I called to let the proprietor know that I was dissatisfied, he was vague and offered general excuses. I can appreciate the difficulty of removing snow from a gravel road, but I think he should be clearer regarding the likely result and give better advice regarding what's possible. I also feel that he lacks either the skills or the equipment to do the job he agreed to do. I freely concede that it would have been preferable for me to be present during the work. However, I wish it weren't necessary to supervise such work so closely. I note that Apache finished the visit by spending around twenty minutes trying to drive his tractor up the steep slope at the end of the shared road--we had intended that he remove the snow from that portion, but I gather from my neighbor that he wasn't able to do so, and his efforts to get his own equipment out left a large gouge in the road that everyone in our little neighborhood will have to avoid.Desired Settlement: In my view, the only appropriate remedy is for Apache to pay the cost of hiring a competent contractor to re-grade the road, repair the damaged rolling dip, and pour fresh gravel. Apache did offer to replace the gravel, but it wasn't clear if he meant the gravel he'd removed or new gravel, and in any case, I have no reason to believe that he's capable of doing the job properly.
