Apex Mototech Reviews (1)

Review: I called three weeks prior to bringing my motorcycle in for service & spoke w/ [redacted]. [redacted] said the job was something he was very familiar with & had done multiple times. After scheduling the appointment, three weeks out. I brought my motorcycle in for service on Saturday 04/06/13. [redacted] did not provide me with a written estimate for repair, or a receipt for my motorcycle, or the parts provided. My motorcycle sat at his shop, with no work being done. I called several times & was unable to get calls back. After 2 months of my bike being at Apex mototech, I was finally able to speak with [redacted]. [redacted] said he hadn't started on my motorcycle yet. [redacted] said he was going to start on the bike & stay in touch. I called & left a message on 06/04/13 & 06/11/13. After not receiving a call back, I came in to pick-up my bike 06/15/13. [redacted] said it was $300+ for service. I declined. [redacted] said he would do $180 for service. I ended up picking up my bike, in pieces, with a box of parts, some of which were missing. Now I have to pay a REAL motorcycle mechanic to put my motorcycle back together, & pay additional costs for missing parts.

If [redacted] at Apex mototech was competent then I would like to have him restore my bike back to the default configuration that it was when I originally brought it in. Due to almost three months problems & no solutions, or calls back. I have lost all confidence in [redacted] to do further work on my bike. I would like to be refunded the $180 charged for a job not complete, minus the cost of any parts or fluids Apex mototech supplied. Apex should pay the cost to restore my bike back to original condition.

Consumer's Final Response

I was writing to inform you that Apex Mototech has contacted me & resolved the issue I had filed a complaint about. Please note that it has been resolved & no further action needs to be taken. Thank you for your support & help with this matter.

Business Response

The service the customer expected from Apex Mototech was out of the ordinary. The maintenance portion was simple and done in a timely manner. The custom portion of the work, replacing the customer supplied carburetor, required trial and error and quite a bit of research. Later found out that the supplied carburetor would physically NOT fit and that it was not CARB approved for street use. Apex Mototech then suggested that the motorcycle be reassembled with the original carburetor. Mr. [redacted] was not satisfied and picked up his motorcycle disassembled. After a conversation and rearranging a very strict repair schedule, driving 40 minutes to pick up Mr. [redacted]'s motorcycle then back 40 minutes (free of charge), the vehicle was reassembled and the tune-up was ultimately "completed". One of the original issues the customer had was exhaust popping on deceleration. Even that was taken care of free of charge. So, at $90 per hr, the customer was charged for only two hours of work for the scheduled tune up (included valve clearance check, all fluids, air filter, tire pressures, chain cleaning/adjusting). The carburetor install trail and error (which the customer assured me that it would fit!), the research, the pick up, the popping fix, was out of Apex Mototech's pocket. I hope that Mr. [redacted] has found that Apex Mototech has responded over and beyond to resolve this issue.

Consumer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

That's incorrect. I had talked to [redacted] on the phone in advance before bringing my bike into his shop & explained to [redacted] the carb I had purchased & that I was interested in installing it on my bike. [redacted] assured me that he was VERY familiar with the application. I scheduled an appointment 3 weeks out before bringing my bike & carb into Apex. I again explained to [redacted] that I wanted to have a the scheduled valve clearance check done & also check to see if the carb would fit prior to me ordering a $70 Noss Machine adapter. After about two months in, [redacted] said it would work. Then I ordered the adapter & had it shipped to his shop. [redacted] received the adapter, glued it to my new carb. [redacted] contacted me & said the there was a clearance issue with my petcock on my fuel tank. I again researched the issue & found a possible solution. I attempted to contact [redacted] several times over the course of a month. Leaving several messages & not receiving any calls back. After a whole month of no contact, or no returned calls. I showed up at Apex & explained to [redacted] my frustration. [redacted] said Quote "If you want to just pick up your motorcycle as-is. I understand. It's taking longer then expected". He did not care or offer me ANY solutions at this time. He gave me a box of parts (some missing). First [redacted] said it was going to be $300+ for the job. I disagreed. [redacted] then said he would only charge me $180. I paid $180 I loaded up my bike & my box of parts & left. [redacted] at that point made NO attempts to contact me until AFTER he received a letter from the Revdex.com & the BAR. [redacted] stated that he wanted to get the problem resolved. I told [redacted] that if he completed valve clearance check, re-installed my original carb, & re-jetted to resolved existing back-fire issue. Then he could keep the $180 that I had paid & we would call it good. [redacted] also explained to me that he had found parts of mine still at his shop, but made no effort to contact me about my missing parts prior to his letters from Revdex.com & BAR? [redacted] VERY promptly came up to my house the following day to pick-up my bike. With-in the next day or two, he called me back saying the job was completed. So 3 MONTHS LATER, he was able to get a job done in two days? If the carb I wanted to install wasn't going to work, he should have told me. [redacted] saying the carb is not approved for street use? This is the first I've heard about this, how come [redacted] failed to mention that to me? Instead [redacted] confirmed the $70 adapter should work & had me order it & ship it to his shop & he glued it to the new carb. WOW, so he KNEW the carb wasn't going to work & he STILL had me order the $70 adapter & wait 3 months? Parts were still missing I had a zip tie on my air box, going to carb instead of my stock hose clamp. Is this common practice to replace customers parts with zip ties? When I picked up my bike. I asked [redacted] what jets he went with when re-jetting my carb. [redacted] said all he did was adjust the air/fuel screw & did not re-jet carb. [redacted] said that the back-fire was still present, but not as much? Interesting that [redacted] stated the bike was still popping on deceleration, but not as much, but in this statement he said problem was resolved? So what one is it? So he didn't re-jet my carb & didn't resolve the back-fire issue that we discussed? My bike stopped running after a couple rides. I checked my spark plug & found that it was WHITE. meaning my engine is running WAY TOO HOT. That's when I noticed the zip tie & the loose throttle positioning cables. Keep in mind my bike doesn't even have 15k miles on it. Aside from the back-fire on deceleration (Very common with my bike & mods) MY BIKE RAN FINE. I HAD NO PROBLEMS! In the end. Popping issue was never resolved as discussed. Carb re-jet was not done as we discussed. I ordered a $70 part that he said should work. He knew it wasn't going to work, but still glued the part to my new carb & installed it?
