APM Masonry & Construction Reviews (2)

Review: The contractor (APM Masonry - license number is [redacted].) attempted to essentially double the price of the job when they showed up to perform the work. This is after we had a signed agreement and an approved scope of work clarification addendum, which fully clarified all of the work required to perform this FIXED PRICE CONTRACT. NOTHING changed on the chimney between when they (APM) provided the quote and today, when they came to start the work. A complete disconnect between Craig P[redacted] (owner / estimator) and Artie M[redacted] (co-owner / job forman). Craig estimated one price when he quoted the job and several weeks later, on the day they show up to perform the work, Artie had a different price. This is after Artie was on the roof for 1 minute. Both men were requested at the job site for a face-to-face discussion with the customer in order to attempt to work out the problem. Since none was offered and the customer was unwilling to approve the large change order, the contractor (owner, co-owner & workers) left the site before any work was started. Very, very bad business practice to not honor your contract obligations. Also, this tactic has delayed the customer from getting the chimney fixed, quit possibly before the winter freeze.Desired Settlement: Contractor to provided an explanation as to why the price doubled ($1,600.00 to $3,200.00) after we already had a signed contract agreement and nothing changed about the scope of the job between when the estimate was made and when the contractor appeared on site to perform the work.

Response:

This complaint has no substance. My workers arrived at the property to do the work quoted at 1600.00 and my workers began to dismantle the brick on [redacted] chimney and t here was more involved work to be performed after moving a few courses.Having said that my foreman explained to our customer that more work needed to be done that was unforeseen during estimate quoted. [redacted] started raising his voice to my workers and my foreman called me and explained the attitude of our customer and I told them to pack up and wait for me to arrive....[redacted] stood on the back of my work vehicle stopping my workers from putting ladders on our truck..I arrived to see him standing on my trucks bumper...enough said...We hold the highest level of integrity on all of APM Masonry job sites...Customer service is part of who we are!

I am rejecting this response because of the following FACTS that can be proven. There is no verbal he said she said in this response:

Review: I hired apm masonry to rebuild a stucco chimney and the chimney still leaks. I have pictures of the chimney that show cracks in the stucco and improper flashing and damage to the roof tiles and just a mess in general. They put the chimney up 6/11/2014 and the chimney leaks every time it rains hard. They did not flash the chimney the day it was put up and I had to call repeatedly to get them to return. They finally put the flashing up but it is incomplete and shoddy work and now I find out through pictures that were taken that there are cracks all over the chimney. I have called the owner several timed but he will not return my calls at all. I emailed the pics I have to him as well. The work they did is a joke and they took $3300 and will not return my calls and every time it rains hard I have water going into my attic.Desired Settlement: I want my money back because they obviously do not know what they are doing or give a crap or they would have returned my calls. Now I have to pay someone else to repair the chimney on top of the $3300 I paid them.
