Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because:
There is no way the work
was performed on 8/8/14. I was at work
all day and have the timesheet and leave summary to support this fact. According to MrApperson’s letter the
approved permit was received on 8/5/14.
This would indicate that the work was performed without a valid permit,
of which I had no knowledge. The carpentry correction
consisted of moving a small piece of wood higher up on the shower framing. My brother came from out of town to help get
the project started and returned home earlier on the morning of 8/1/14. As I told *** my brother had already
left and I did not know when he was coming back. I am grateful that *** was able to
move the wood for me. Additionally, I
had requested that another piece of wood be placed at the back of the shower
stall for support because it was not flush against the framing. MrApperson agreed and asked that I save a
piece of packing wood strip I had on the floor for that purpose.Prior to 8/27/I had
made numerous attempts to speak with MrApperson, including leaving voice
messages on their phone and leaving messages with MrsApperson for Mr
Apperson to return my calls. When I did
not get a call back from him and the other businesses had completed their jobs
to my satisfaction I decided rather than delaying the initial inspection I
would have the inspections done at the same time and continue my attempts to
make contact with MrApperson. My final message given to
MrsApperson was on 9/3/14. I asked
that Mr. Apperson return my call she
inquired why. At that time I informed
her that the pipe was blocking the sprinkler head and needed to be fixed. She had been very reliable in the past and I
did not see any reason why this would change.I don’t know why Mr
Apperson would say they’ve tried on numerous occasions to contact me and I
never responded. I was eager to have the
pipe moved and would have been happy to take or return any calls. Yes, the receipts are made
out to Apperson Plumbing. On 8/1/when
MrApperson arrived at my home with *** and his assistant he asked if
I had selected the fixture. I told him I
had not. He recommended Ferguson
Enterprises which was close by. I had
never been to that store before. So, he
offered to place the order, which I accepted.
He inquired if I had decided on a finish and I informed him I had
decided to use the shiny finish. He
placed the order and gave me the name of the employee with whom he had spoken. Later I went to pick up the items. When my aunt and I arrived at the store it
appeared that they were expecting me. I
was presented with more items than expected.
When I questioned the quantity I was told that MrApperson had ordered
them. Not being familiar with the
plumbing profession I accepted the supplies.
I paid with my MasterCard
Credit Card. My credit card
number is clearly listed on the sales order, not Apperson Plumbing.
Page of the sales receipt has my name typed with my signature. I’d be willing to provide this to Mr. Apperson if he wishes. After taking the items
home I showed them to *** and I asked how many shower heads he will
install. When he told me one I handed
him half of the items I had purchased and returned the rest to the store. To my knowledge possessing
and using plumbing materials do not require a license. I bought the plumbing elbows and glue kit for
the PVC pipe extending from my hot water tank.
I wanted to direct the pipe and any overflow of water into the floor
drain.Yes, I filed a complaint with
the Attorney General’s Office when I did not get a response from Mr
Apperson. The mediator assigned to the
case sent letters to Apperson Plumbing and did not get a response. At that time it had been months since the
original letter was sent and it was recommended that I file a complaint with
the Maryland Plumbing Board, I did so.
After more than a month I did not received a response and I decided to
file the Revdex.com complaint. In the interim I
finally spoke with someone from the Maryland Plumbing Board Office. I was informed that my complaint and a
response from the business were received and that the
Board would meet again on 3/19/15.I’m not sure how Mr
Apperson came to the conclusion that both the Attorney General’s Office and
Maryland Plumbing Board said I had no case.
I have not received such notices.
I would be grateful if MrApperson would provide copies for my records. Finally, MrApperson
claims that I am slandering and harassing them, nothing could be further from
the truth. My goal has been and still is
to have this matter resolved expeditiously.
He said he would be glad to relieve me from the balance and I am pleased
about that. Obviously we can no longer
do business. I ask that he send me the
cancelation of contract notice and we can part ways.Respectfully,

We received your “Notice of Complaint” dated 2/16/16 – ID of [redacted]In reference to the Complaint alleged by [redacted]:We were hired by the [redacted]’s Home Warranty Company ([redacted]) to look at an issue with their Electric Water Heater. The $100.00 we collected from [redacted]. [redacted]...

was the Deductible that they are required to pay per their CONTRACT with the Home Warranty Company.  [redacted]. [redacted] thinks because I didn’t actually replace something that I did not perform a service.  (I still had to drive 2 hours round trip and spend about 20-30 minutes with this customer – So 2-1/2 hours of my time needs to be compensated for.)We scheduled a time window of 9:00am & 12:00pm to arrive to their house to look at the water heater issue. We arrived at approximately 9:30am – The mechanic was then by [redacted]. [redacted] that he should have called first – (This is why we schedule at time frame – we do not call every customer before we arrive). I am the Owner of the Company – (A Master Plumber in 5 States) and I went on this Service Call myself – Upon arrival I check to see if there was hot water at the tap – I then asked [redacted]. [redacted] if she was having trouble getting and keeping hot water, she stated that she had plenty of hot water that it just smelled – I then checked the Cold Water Tap and it had the same smell as the Hot Water Tap.  I then proceed to the garage and checked the water heater to make sure there were no issues with it since that was the service call was placed for. If the smell was only coming from the Hot Water it could be a water heater issue, but since it was also coming from the Cold Water it was a Well issue. I informed [redacted]. [redacted] what she was smelling was “Sulfur” and that comes from her well – She could have the well treated or have a Filter System installed to take care of the smell.  [redacted]. [redacted] stated that her & her husband had decided to place a call with the Home Warranty Company and pay the $100 deductible so they could make them replace the water heater with a new one since they already made them replace their Furnace.I traveled over an hour in each direction to this customers house and reviewed the issue.  If it was reported to the Home Warranty Company as a smell instead of a water heater issue they could have reviewed the contract to see if they cover well smells.[redacted]. [redacted] continued to tell me about her problems that she has had with her house and that she had a recent death in the family and she was having a hard time dealing with all of it.If you have any more questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our office at ###-###-####.Sincerely,

 Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:Let me clear up what ACTUALLY happened, since the Owner of the Plumbing Company has his facts confused.First and foremost, I had contacted a local plumbing company that assured me that the problem with the hot water heater is a bad anode.  As I stated previously, armed with this information, I contacted the home warranty company to have the repair covered under the warranty. Now, the “service call”.I did not select this provider, the warranty company did.So, as far as driving 2 hours round trip, the plumber should have been well aware of the distance from his office to my home.  If the distance was too far, or thought to be unreasonable, then he should have rejected the home warranty company’s offer of the job.  The first plumber the warranty company contacted did exactly that.Next, he did not spend 20 to t30 minutes; he was there less than 10 minutes. Despite the “service call window”, the warranty company said that they WOULD CALL before they arrived.  This is probably a special term of contract between the Warranty Company and plumbing contractor.  The plumber’s standard policy of not calling in advance is independent of this issue. The plumber DID NOT check the hot water heater beyond a cursory visual inspection.  He opened no panels, took no samples, nor performed any other task at the hot water heater. When he did check the taps, he only checked at one location.  There is no dispute that he checked the hot water first, however he did not run the COLD tap to flush any residual hot water from the faucet before declaring the cold water smelled as well. The well water was tested as part of the condition of sale of the home in October of 2015.  There was no mention of sulfurous contamination of any kind.  Thus, the rushed conclusion on the part of the plumber is invalid.  Perhaps the plumber was too concerned with his one-hour drive to be unbiased in his investigation.  Also, the local plumber previously called in to do the initial evaluation made no mention of sulfurous contamination.  If that was the case, he would have suggested a filtration system or other treatment – wouldn’t a reputable business owner be interested in solving a customer problem by offering a service or solution that would add to his bottom line as well as satisfy the customer?Further, the Plumber’s claim that we had the warranty company previously replace our furnace is complete FALSE AND FABRICATED.  To what end he makes this false claim is beyond my comprehension and what business of his is it if we had other problems, WHICH WE DID NOT?  Is he deflecting the issue away from his own short comings? Our goal was NOT to simply have the hot water heater replaced; we wanted it repaired by having the anode replaced under the warranty. As far as [redacted]’s personal concerns that she may have shared with the plumber, again, such comments are unrelated and independent of the fact that the plumber did a substandard investigation, drew a false conclusion, and was predisposed to not fixing our problem because of his ERRONEOUS and FALSE CLAIM that we had other issues repaired under the Warranty Contract.  Basically, in my opinion, the plumber was not happy that he had to drive 2 hours round trip to win a contract that would not cover travel expenses to replace the anode. Thanks againRegards,
[redacted]

Review: Last year I contracted [redacted] Apperson, AppersonPlumbing, Inc. to do renovate my three bathrooms and kitchen. He then told me I needed a new roof.

I paid him $46,000 for the roof, siding and gutters ([redacted]’s [redacted]), labor and material for the tile floors and tub surrounds ([redacted]), electric ([redacted]), the labor and miscellaneous materials to finish the job ([redacted]).

I paid for the kitchen cabinets ([redacted] Kitchens $12,907 total), vanities, etc. ([redacted] Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery $6,291.11), and lighting fixtures myself.

I’ve been extremely happy with most of the work, however, there are a few items that Mr. Apperson has not come back to resolve despite my efforts to have him come back. [redacted] suggested I contact you to see if you could help me.

The upstairs toilet that Apperson Plumbing installed leaked, causing damage to the drywall and paint in the kitchen. I called [redacted] to come and repair the toilet on 5/6/2013. The plumber replaced the washer on the tank; he said they were improperly installed causing the washers to rust and then the tank to leak. He also cut the screws that were not trimmed down in the master bathroom. I paid $90 for the toilet repair; I have not had the drywall and repainting done yet.

These are the unresolved issues and vendors:

Master bathroom:

• Tub faucet is loose

• There is no cold water in the tub/shower

• Drywall screws are not installed properly on towel bar causing towel bar to separate from the wall

• Drain and drain [redacted] do not match the other tub hardware

• Two of the sink handles are not secured ([redacted] plumber said he thought a piece was missing from each handle)

• Both sink faucets are wobbly

Laundry Room:

• No cold water

Kitchen:

• Cabinet doors were improperly installed causing them to go out of alignment. A technician from [redacted] Kitchens came by and adjusted them. [redacted] said he paid the bill for that, but [redacted] told me she didn’t bother billing him as she didn’t think he’d pay it.

• Now, one of the doors has literally fallen off the hinge. [redacted] from [redacted] Kitchens came over to look at door. It seems that the installer over-drilled the hole causing the looseness to occur; the partner door is loose as well. I wondered if the screws he used were the right length?

• Another cabinet door is scraping the ceiling causing the paint to peel (and I’m sure is damaging the top of the cabinet door as well).

• The drywall needs to be replaced & repainted due to the upstairs toilet leaking

I know [redacted] through mutual friends and thought I could trust him. In addition to not making good on his work, I believe he overcharged me. While I’m leery about having him come back for fear he will mess things up on purpose, I don’t think I should have to pay someone to fix the issues he has created. I’m hoping you can help me. I have all the paperwork and bills and would be happy to send them to you if you need them.Desired Settlement: Work is completed in a competent manner; a detailed and verified bill is presented

Re: [redacted] ID# [redacted]

In reference to **. [redacted]’s complaint, API provided her plumbing services during the time period of January & February 2012. It has been 18+ months since we installed that toilet and never received a complaint about it. This is the only time API has heard of any issues except for an email we received from her in late December 2012 about a couple small issues, which were addressed at that time.

I’m not positive how long most companies provide labor and material warranties for, but I know some of them are 30 days on labor 90 days on parts and others are no longer than 1 year. All material/fixtures were installed per manufacturers instructions and if something was improperly installed, it wouldn’t take 16 months for a tank to leak.
