Review: My family and I went on a road trip to Wisconsin on 06/07/2013. On the way home, my car's engine blew and caught on fire right off the highway by Waupeca, Wi Airport around 3:00pm evening. We've decided to tow my car to my uncle's house in Appleton. Ive called around for a shop close by to get an estimate and found Appleton Radiator which is down the block from my uncle's house on 06/13/2013. I've told them to hold it for a week until my car insurance adjuster from (ALLSTATE) come look at it first. So then, my car insurance decided, they will not cover it after examining the car and said it was from wear and tear therefore, the shop said the total was going to run me $2300.00 to fix it. Which includes putting in a good used running engine in it with a 90 day warranty. While me and my family were already sent home by my uncle on 06/15/2013. I've called the shop on 06/20/2013 and they said they will not start on it unless Ive paid at least half first and they'll have it done in a week. So Ive decided to go ahead and pay half with my Credit card over the phone in the amount of $1,200 on 6/26/2013. Then, I called the shop to check on my car and they said the motor they were going to put it in, has a broken timing belt already so they did not want pick up that engine. So now we have to wait for another engine. Two weeks after, Ive called and they said they found an engine from Wis Dells and they'll put it in as soon as they got it. A few days after, I call the shop again, ask whats going on? They said they just got done putting that new engine from Wis Dells in and started it up and it has a loud knock. So now, they told me I have to wait again until they find me another engine!!! So after a week, they finally called and left me a voice message saying they found two engines, one from Ohio, and one from Connecticut. Those shops are going to test the engines see if their good and running, before they ship it. 07/19/2013, I called the shop and they said they put the new motor from Ohio in and it starts up, but has a rough idle also, that it gets stuck in third gear for me to take it easy on the way back to Minnesota. So my wife and I decided to go the next day on Saturday to pick up our car knowing that it gets stuck in 3rd gear. We made it there at 12:05 afternoon on 07/20/2013. I paid them the rest of the money in cash in the amount of $1,100. They gave us the receipt and told us don't go past 70mph. We took the car and left. Right before we was going to leave Appleton, we test drove it on the highway going up to only about 60 and right when we exit off, There was a bunch of white smoke coming from the engine and muffler again. So luckly we were close to the Appleton radiator. I drove it there and it barely made it. I had some buddies help push it to the shop's lot and left it there again. Since the shop was closed already. Gave the keys to my uncle them and told them, Monday when the shop opens, go give them the keys and tell them the car broke down again! And so, I left back home to Minnesota. Called them back on Monday 07/22/2013 and they said I blew a tube that runs the transmission fluid and that's why it was smoking. Also, that their ordering this part for my transmission so that it can shift gears again and wont be stuck in 3rd gear. They said they should be done by Friday (07/26/2013). So then on 7/27/2013, we decided to drive down there again to attempt to grab my car again! I called them and told them, I will be there and since they close by noon on Saturdays, my uncle will go grab it and have it at his house. They told me that the motor has a shake but that's due to sitting in the salvage yard too long and that by the time we drive it all the way back to Minnesota, the shaking should stop. So when we got to my uncles house around 5:00pm that Saturday and started up the car. The motor was shaking like crazy, but when you drive, it shifts good now. So we decided to go ahead and slowly drive it back home to have shops where we live take a look at it. So on August 13th, I had a shop in Minnesota take a look at it and the mechanic said the engine has a burnt valve, 3rd cylinder misfiring, bad 02 senors and bad senors in the oil pan and that why its causing it to shake. He also said, its just a matter of time before that engine blows up again and which ever shop that did the swap, put a bad engine in it. So with that being said, I called the shop the next day and told them the story and that they put in a bad engine and send me on my way. They told me, They never checked if that motor was good, they just went by what ever the third party said and now if I want them to check my car? Their going to charge me to just look at it. Also, since the engine has a 90 day warranty on it. They'll help find another engine for free, but is going to charge me half price for labor!! We are not going to waste anymore money on it. We did what the shop wanted us to do and already paid full price of $2300 that they were asking to put a good running engine into my car and now their going to charge us for labor too?

We definitely don't want that shop to touch our car anymore. We demand a full refund and money for the time wasted for putting in a crappy motor and leaving us here without a car for 2 months.Desired Settlement: We demand a full refund in the amount of at least $6,000-$5,000 or more for our time being wasted and us here stuck without a car for two months and bad customer service for never updating us on our car.

The customer called me for an estimate, I gave it to them for about $2300.00. They wanted there insurance to look at it. It sat in my lot for a week, no charge. They gave me the okay to fix it and paid half down. I started looking for an engine. It is a one year only engine. I took a long time to find a what I was told was a good engine. We put that one in and it make noise. We took that one out no charge and starting looking for another engine. Being a one year only engine it took time again to find one. The next one we found we were told ran good just had a rough idle. Common for a engine sitting in a yard for a time. We put that one in, no charge. It did idle a little rough but at off idle speed seemed to smooth out. Test driving it did not shift up like it should but we were not asked to fix that so we let it go. They came and picked it up and as they were driving it blew a transmission cooler line. When I came in on Monday morning it was here. We found the problem and repair it, no charge and looked into the shifting problem. Found out what it was found a part for that and fixed it, no charge. I told them I thought the rough idle would clear up with driving. They called and said they didn't like the engine. I told them I could get them another one but they would have to bring it here for install. There is a 90 day warranty on the engine but not on the labor as we did nothing wrong on the install. So if they wanted it done this time I would have ge half the labor.

Review: On April 16th, I decided to take my 2001 Honda Odyssey to Appleton Radiator and Auto Repair to get my transmission rebuilt because it is start to slip in gear. I drove the van to the shop and have one of their mechanic test drive and hook a computer scan to diagnose issue. He came back and said that is the transmission, bad motor mounts, and alignment. I disagreed, and told him that it is the transmission because the car drive straight and it only clunk when transmission slip. I then ask the both the owner and mechanic if they have done Odyssey before. They both answered, yes, and many. I was told that it will be around $2000 and it will take two days and I should be able to pick up the car on April 18th. At this time, I did not get a written estimate of repair or any documents. April 18th, I call the shop to see if my van was ready for pickup. [redacted] told me that they were behind and it won't be until April 21st or April 22nd. April 22nd, I call the shop again letting him know that I am going to pick up the van. [redacted] responded that it is not ready because his transmission mechanic is in the hospital and not be done until his return on April 25th. On this day, I wanted to take the van and someone else do the job, but [redacted] said that transmission was already dissembled. April 25th, I stop by at the shop. [redacted] assured me that the van will be done on Monday April 28th. [redacted] said that his mechanic is putting it back together as we speak. April 29th, I call the shop again. [redacted] said he will check and call me back. Around 4:30pm he called my cell phone with same story, van is not done still. Again assuring me that it will be done on the morning of Wednesday April 30th. April 30th, I stop at the shop @ 4:00pm and van is not done still. I finally got the car about 5:00pm. [redacted] finally gave me the invoice which contain a bill for a broken axel that was done without my permission or knowledge. I just go tire of the who situation and Paid the $2184.64. Which [redacted] said with discount. I have one of the mechanic to help me drive the van home since I had two cars there. When we got to my house, 1.5 mile away. I drove the mechanic back in the van. Drove it for .50 mile, stop at red light, clunk, transmission slipping again. I ask the mechanic if he heard it, and he said yes. Almost got back at the shop, stop, trying to make a left turn. Clunk. Transmission slip again. Pull up to shop, told [redacted] and mechanic about issue. Mechanic hook computer to car and drove it around. Came back and said that it is the Traction Control that is causing issue because they replaced the bad left axel. I said that it is the transmission. [redacted] said that I will have to leave car there again. Was not given a ETA on repair. [redacted] drove me home that day. I voiced my concern and told him that they had the car for 14 days and still not fixed. I am very concern and frustrated. Therefore, I will need this fix asap. May 1st. My car is still at the shop. I still have not heard from [redacted] or anyone from the shop.Desired Settlement: First of all, very poor customer service skills. I would like to be updated with any delay or repair outside of what is agreed on. I got slap with additional repair that is very suspicious or not needed. I got lied to every time I try to get information about my repair. At this time, I would like to get a full refund. They had the van for 14 days for a two days transmission repair job. This is pretty standard for this make and model transmission rebuilt turn around time. I don't have any confident that they know how to rebuilt this transmission in-house. I don't think they even know how to get the job done right. I can and will provide receipts for this repair if needed.
