Applied Industrial & Architectural Plastics Reviews (1)

Dear Ms***
Thank you for taking the time to write to us. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify what
we think has happened. The Staff at Bill’s
Lock & Key, Inc., would like to apologize that we failed to properly
communicate to you the reasons we recommend liquid
lubricants in lieu of
powdered graphite for locks here in the State of New Mexico
Both graphite and liquid lubricants are used as lock
lubricants throughout the world. As one
of seven Certified Master Locksmiths in New Mexico, Bill believes that a liquid
lubricant is preferred in our unique climate.
One of the biggest issues that we have observed with locks over the past
years is mesa dirt. Our fine dust,
combined with low humidity, can create many problems in modern locks with tight
mechanical tolerances. Graphite does not
in any way help to remove the mesa dirt that has blown into locks. A spray lubricant will remove the fine dirt and
excess will drain from the lock, taking most contaminates with it. Graphite tends to clump and pack itself into
the springs and pin chambers of modern locks inhibiting proper movement of the
pins and springs.
As with all industries and professions, there will always be
conflicting opinions regarding the best ways to accomplish any goal. We, again, apologize that you have gotten
caught in the middle of one of the locksmithing industry’s biggest controversy. Bill’s Lock & Key will continue to stand
by our recommendation of liquid lubricant as a first (and inexpensive) method
to help resolve lock issues. While it
doesn’t resolve all issues, it frequently does help issues regarding broken
keys, sticking bolts, and keys that are simply hard to turn. We will work with our staff to be more
diligent in explaining our reasoning behind our beliefs. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact me at ***
Sincerely,
Mary S***, CPL, CAL
