Review: I gave Cheryl Jones, owner of aqua tech basement inc, a deposit of $1500 on 8-14-15 which was cashed at my bank on 8-17-15. She informed me that the work would be done in October. I called her business phone today to check on the status of my job. They said that AquaTech is out of business and that a new company acquired the phone number. Essentially, Aqua Tech took my deposit on a job that was not started. I have a contract with aqua tech that was signed by Cheryl Jones detailing the work. I was never notified that the company was going out of business.Desired Settlement: My deposit should be returned to me so I can hire a another company to do the work for me.

Review: Aquatech was contracted in 2007 to redo and install new insulation in my crawlspace. They were also contracted to repair a hole where an animal was coming into the area. After 7 years, I started to get an odor in my house. I contacted Aquatech multiple and did not get a reply. I called another insulation contractor and was told the insulation was in reverse and a plastic barrier had been placed over the insulation. Also instead of a repair to the hole, all the vents were removed and blocked with pieice of broken concrete preventing any air circulation in the crawlspace. There was a concern due to the way the insulation was placed, my hardwood floor may have been affected. I had to take immediate action. As I continued to try to get in touch with Aquatech without success. When they did respond, the response was what do you want us to do since it has been 7 years. They accepted no responsibility. This was all via email...no call. I even told them I had pictures of the previous installation. I had to pay additional money to have the work redone. They could have at least try to discuss but did not seem interested.Desired Settlement: The cost of the insulation installation in 2007 was 800.00. I paid 1260 to have everything corrected and redone. I woudl at least like to have half of the money refunded. I trusted Aquatech to install the insulation correctly. I am not a contractor and I was un aware it was done icnorrectly and how this affected the temperature of the floors. I was lucky the mositure did not damage my hardwood floors.

Response:

Aquatech basement inc., was not informed of this until after she had the work completed, however we did ask to see the picture that we still have not seen, we were not given the opportunity to fix anything even though it was under warranty. however we did try to send someone out to take a look and she said that she was going on vacation and that she would call when she got back. we are not trying to avoid anything, but we were not given a chance to look at. or even correct this issue. as you know that we have had a great lose to the company and the transition has not been easy. Aquatech Basement, Inc. is still honoring the warranty. Again we have not been given the chance to look at this before or after. and I did contact her by phone and email. And when the jobs are completed the customer only pays when satisfied, otherwise we stay on the job until they are. Again we would like to know who done the job and we would like to see the pictures and an chance to take a look at it ourselves, which I did ask Mrs. [redacted] of this and have not received a response on this time or day as of yet.

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I have complete documentation and correspondence that will prove that I have made requests to speak with the person responding to the emails. They have yet to identify themselves and will not accept a meeting or call request. I have also documented that I spoke with a gentlemen whom had planned to come to my house. I did call him to tell him it was a Labor Day weekend and had plans to go out of town on the Saturday of Labor day weekend. I also informed him the insulation had been redone and I had made several attempts to contact them. He, at that time informed me the owner had passed 2 weeks prior. I asked that someone had been emailing me and I assumed it was the owner. He then told me that it was the owner's fiancee. He appears to lose interest and surprised when I told him the work had been complete but I had pictures. I asked to reschedule and called him several times but no response back. I then proceeded to call the office and email. I have all email correspondence and documented calls and conversations with answering services. I have yet to have a conversation with the owner's fiancee. I also have a email where she stated..what do you want me to do about this. I responded with an email stating that I was very surprised at her response.

I would very much like to to actually speak to the individual and current owner of the company. Again, I have all my emails and documentation showing I have done everything possible to speak and resolve this issue.

Thanks

I know that when [redacted] does a job, it is done right and that insulation was done right. I have spoken with other professional in the construction field and they have stated that insulation is suppose to be put in with the paper facing down and the plastic over that to create a vapor barrier. and from the photos that were sent to me show just that. If you place the insulation with the fiber facing down and then put plastic over it that will create moisture and damage to the floors. the area of the vent was fixed and the rock was to make the animals think its blocked or sealed so that they wouldn't get back in, but air can still get in. This job was put in correctly, and with someone else changing it does void the warranty. [redacted] was in this business for over thirty years, and he did know what he was doing, and he also made sure that the jobs were done to his satisfaction. This was done seven years ago, and if it wasn't done right it would have showed signs way before now. As far as the phone calls go, if anyone tried calling the office they were told that their was a family emergency and it would be awhile before anyone could get back to them, during the time that she called, which she called in August 2014, and the owner passed away 6 days later. There is a time of grieving when losing someone, even a companies owner.

I have researched insulation installation and have also contacted other insulating companies. They absolutely agree the insulation was incorrectly installed. By placing the paper to the floor, this will trap moisture and with the additional plastic placed over the insulation, this caused a double problem. I also had a different contractor that removed the pieces of broken concrete from the vent and reinstalled new vents in the spaced. This is very disappointing that Aquatech will not admit error in how the insulation was placed and also to how the vents were fixed.

I do understand there is a period for grieving. I only met [redacted] a couple of times. From what I can remember, I could tell he was a very honorable man. I do not believe this was intentional and I do not believe any short cuts occurred. My challenge to you is how can you honor an incorrect insulation from a customer who truly trusted Aquatech,

I ask you to do your research on the proper way to install insulation. I ask you to call reputable insulators and ask them about the correct insulation method. I did...I ask you to do the same. I know you said you did but I have been researching for several weeks on the east coast. However, I did not have to go further than Central Va to find information on insulation installation.

We at Aqua Tech Basement, Inc. are grieving the lose of our owner, [redacted], who passed away. [redacted] who runs the office has been and was taking care of [redacted] in his last months, is trying to get things back on track. I was never informed about her basement leaking, however I did send someone out to fix the drain that she said was sticking out of her yard and she told them to do it later at which that was completed. We have no problem fixing her basement but we could not help the events that took place in these last few months. [redacted] has a warranty and must give us a chance to fix it.

Response:

we have been out there every time she has called, we have not received a call from her, and if she called three weeks ago that is when [redacted] had passed away and I wasn't sure if the business was going to keep going or not and anyone who called was told that there was a family emergency and the company was on hold until [redacted] got better.

but he didn't and passed away during that time frame. I have been trying to do my best to satisfy everyone and grieve at the same time. but mrs. [redacted] has not called to my knowledge, but since I now know, I will contact her to find out what is going on.

thank you,

Review: Aquatech Basement encapsulated a crawlspace for us in May of 2010 with a lifetime warranty at our second home on [redacted], VA. We noticed 10 days ago that we had water in the crawlspace and called Aquatech on Monday August 12th. A woman named [redacted] called me back a few hours later and asked if I had a copy of the contact. I told her I did but that it was at our primary residence. She asked that I scan it and email it to her. I did that on Tuesday August 13th. She had said when I spoke to her on August 12th that she would get someone to look at it, but that it might be as late as last weekend. I called on Friday August 16th and left a message which wasn't returned. I called again this morning and left a message which also hasn't been returned. It appears that the areas where we have water were never sealed and that Aquatech just laid the encapsulation material over the dirt.Desired Settlement: I would like the areas that currently have water to be sealed and if there is some other problem that is causing the water to seep in to have it fixed.

Business

Response:

I, [redacted] at Aquatech am the one who spoke with this customer and we already have her scheduled for her service call to be taken care of. The last secretary we had threw away or lost some of the contracts, this is why I had asked her for a copy to be sent. I had also told her that I had to contact our service guy about this and as soon as I seen the contract so that I could explain what type of job it was and where on the house the job was done. I apologize if it wasnt a fast enough response back, but I did call her back and she did schedule it with me for 8/31/2013 because she wants to be there.

Review: Water was seeping in basement in 2010. The owner Frank Andrews had another sump pump put in that made two. In July 2013 during the big storm; water was pumped upstairs in my kitchen & bedroom. They also broke the floor when they put it in. They came checked said he would call 2 weeks ago.Desired Settlement: My sink is ruined. I would like it fixed and the floor. Maybe take it out before it happen again.

Business

Response:

This job was done 3 years ago, and it was done right. The sump pump was discharged to the outside which is code but she wanted it dumped back into the sewage because to much water running back into the street. We told her it wouldn't work but she wanted it any way. In the mean time in the last three years roanoke sewage has backed up into peoples basements and contributing to water pumping into peoples sinks. Aquatech Basement Inc, is going to go back and take and put the drainage back into the yard. If she wont let Aquatech do it then we tried. This complaint will be turned over to my Lawyer and the complaint is uncalled for, we tried to help her and we didnt charge her, and this is how she repays us. Frank Andrews owner 540-586-6524

Review: Mr. Andrews was at my home on May 26, 2014 and gave me an installment agreement. I mailed this back on May 28, 2014 along with a deposit of $520.00. [redacted] was to begin in 4 to 6 weeks. I called his office about the 4th week to see if his schedule was on track and when we could expect him to begin. I got an answering service. Have called 8 more times in the past 3 weeks and have not heard anything. We are now in weeks 7 and still no contact from him.Desired Settlement: We still would like Aqua-Tech to do this work but if unable to begin by August 1, 2014 we would like our $520.00 deposit returned.

Response:

Mr. Andrews has been ill, but one of our employees, [redacted], has been at the job site and has almost completed the job.

Review: I have a lifetime warranty regardless of ownership with Aqua Tech, Inc. for waterproofing my basement. I paid Aqua Tech, Inc. $2,000 to waterproof my basement in March 2014. The work that was done did not stop the leak. They attempted to repair the leak with hydraulic cement which did not work. I called Aqua Tech, Inc. on September 29, 2015 because water was flooding my basement. Cheryl Jones showed up to assess the problem and told me she was the new owner because [redacted] had died and left her the business. She promised to return on October 6,2015 with her concrete person, but never showed up and I have not heard from her or Aqua Tech, Inc. since then.I have tried to contact Aqua Tech, Inc. by phone with no success. Also, I have sent Aqua Tech, Inc. to the Attention of Cheryl Jones a letter by certified mail with no reply. I have requested a refund of $2,000 because Aqua Tech,Inc. has not done the repairs to correct my water problem. Aqua Tech was licensed and had a A+ Revdex.com rating. Aqua Tech, Inc. now is not licensed and has a F Revdex.com rating. Furthermore, I have been unable to get in touch with Aqua Tech, Inc.Desired Settlement: A refund in the amount of $2,000 that I paid Aqua Tech, Inc. to fix my water leak to my basement.

Response:

Aquatech did a job for Mrs. [redacted] over a year ago, the job was done on the garage and not the basement. in view of going out there, I noticed that the water was coming in above the area that was marked on her contract. I had showed her where the water was coming in many different places and that according to the contract, that was highlighted, that was the only area water wasn't coming in at. So, Aquatech did the job they were hired to do. It was also explained to Mrs. [redacted], that after she had tile put on top of the roof of her garage, that who ever done the chaulking around under the railing, that prevented the water to drain and instead created a channel that led straight to her steps and down her brick wall causing wear on the mortar and brick, that was allowing the water to leak into her garage from above. This is no fault of Aquatech and for that no refund.
