Review: I have two mirror small semi flat roofs on my house(5' by 14'). Area Roofing and Siding did the repairs 3-29-02 and again on 2-23-09 for the same problem. Water was getting into the house thru the ceiling in the two rooms that the roof covered. The same leaking and water damage became visible again after the first of the year in 2009. They came and did the repair work again. I told them that this was the last time my insurance company said would pay anything toward repairing the roof. They said they wanted it fixed this time. [redacted] of Area roofing told me they were sorry it occurred again but now know the source of the problem and this time it would be fixed. They would give me some credit on materials, that was still under warranty, but the new roof would be a new system that would be more expensive, but it would fix the problem. It cost twice as much, even with some credit for materials. But if that would fix the problem, we felt it would be worth it. They assured me they knew what the problem was this time, and it would fix it. We did not need to worry. Both times the contract was the same., 3 years on workmanship and 10 years on materials. On both occasions, it took time for the water to makes it way into our ceiling and then become visible on our ceiling and leaking into the room. Usually, after we would have violent storms with lots of rain and wind, we would begin to see some evidence of water getting in. To say the least, we were upset that this happened again so soon, so soon after we paid again for the repairs and after they promised they had fixed the problem. This time the warranty was up March 23, 2009, and we contacted them in April of 2013. Most likely the roof was already failing in 2009, but had not shown up yet. Whatever they did in 2002 and 2009 did not correct the problem. We realized that we missed the 3 year time frame, but we did have a 10 warranty on the materials. Also, we expected they would take in consideration that they never really fixed the room after the second try and we have incurred significant damage again. Also, the roof materials had buckled on both roofs. A representative for the company, [redacted], who had been the contact person for in the repair of 2002, came out to look at it. After looking at it, he said he did not think the problem was related to the materials. He said it must be something else. He said the buckling of the roof they had installed was normal. I told him, you guys said you knew the problem and you could fix it. This damage has occurred again because you did not fix it right the first time and not the second time. And this time the damage was visible again in the fourth year since your repair. He said he take it to his boss and see what he do and he get back to me. At the point, I had at least thought they would cover the cost of the materials to fix the roof, now for the third time. We paid the twice for labor and materials, and if the problem was not their materials, it was certainly their fault that the did not correctly diagnosis the problem. They really should be responsible for the labor and materials, since the damage occurred again because they did not fix it right.

[redacted] did not call me back. After few weeks, I called him and he thought I had been contacted and he would check on it, and some definitely would come out and look it over again and let me know what could be worked out. For the next three months, I called at least once a week, sometimes twice. I talked with [redacted] mostly at first, since I had his cell number and he was the one I had dealt with. I eventually talked with various people who answer the phone. Each one promised they put me on the schedule and they be out in few days,. I even talked with the lady who does the scheduling. On a number of occasions they gave me a day and three hour time frame. I waited at my house on those days and they never came or called to say they were not coming. Each person, except [redacted], talked like they were unaware of anyone trying to schedule to come out but they would take care of it and call me back. I was able to talk with the owner one day and acted like he knew nothing about the situation but would have someone out by end of the week. I told each person, I had been calling for weeks and each time I was promised someone would come out. I finally got the message, that they just wanted me to go away. They had no intention of coming out and just wanted me to give up and go away.Desired Settlement: I was always respectful and never raised my voice to whoever I talked too. I have never been treated in such a disrespectful way by any business that has done work for me before. They really should have come back and fixed the roof and the damage this time, since it occurred again, because they did not fix it right, as they promised. But if they would have come out, as they promised, and not strung me out for over three months, I probably would have settled for them to pay for the cost of the materials, which they did the first time. I understand this would not be very profitable for them, to come back and fix it for just the labor charge. But after four months of my roof going unrepaired and their very unprofessional behavior, I believe they should pay the entire amount to have the two small roof repaired. I do not now trust them to do the work, and I have an estimate by a local roofing company, that is highly respected in our area. The cost to repair the roofs will be $5550. Those I have spoken to in the roofing business and that have looked at the roofs, say that the work was very poor workmanship(buckling of the roof) and that the leaking occurred again, because they did not diagnosis the problem correctly the first or second time. So, my desired outcome is that they pay for the $5550 repair of the two roofs.
