Hired them to move a 1-bedroom apartment, upper floor to a 2-bedroom apartment. They damaged two pieces of my furniture, one is not repairable.
Date of move was Monday, March 23, 2020. Moving from an upper floor apartment/flat of multi-tenant home in *** to a 2-bedroom apartment in ***. During the move one of the two movers overloaded his hand-truck dolly, lost his grip on it while on the stairs and it and my belongs dropped about six steps to the landing. I called out if he was okay, seeing him sitting on the steps, he said he was fine, and then I asked do the walls or window at the landing get damaged, he said no. However he did not mention any damage/destruction to what was on the dolly. Now, only about 20 minutes earlier as I was putting some personal items in my truck I noticed he was struggling to push the dolly loaded with 3 large/heavy boxes up the loading ramp to the truck... so he already "overloaded" once before the incident and didn't learn from it.
Only when we unloaded and I was presented with the destroyed magazine rack that was a gifted item to me by my sister some 20 years ago but also two pieces of plywood which are the bottom and back to a nice TV cabinet (solid oak). There was items inside the cabinet, and now I realize why the other mover grabbed a spare box I had when the incident happened... never told why he needed it at the time. Luckily I believe the TV cabinet can be repaired but I should have been told immediately damage happened. And the movers complained about the stairs making their job harder, they knew this going into the move, not professional attitude shown.
Also I had requested with the owner a stop be made a mile up the road from the move-to area of a large piece of furniture I had in a storage facility, no problem I was told, it was. The movers were not aware of that until I mentioned it to them as we left ***... They agreed to do it, but I just the night before sent an email to the owner reminding him of that not being a issues with the move. He did not respond to me, so figured all was planned. They had to follow me to the storage facility, not knowing the area? That was a bit stressful, keeping them in view all the way.
I actually rewarded the movers $60 (Gratuity) because they did the extra stop and even set-up my bed. Then I realized how damaged/destroyed my items were I sent an email with photos to the owner on Friday, March 27, 2020 and have not received a reply.
Communication was poor on his part in more than one way...
Honestly I could have hired a different company, but wanted to help out a local business which end up not having well-trained movers.
When I moved into the location over 2-1/2 years ago I had friend help me move in, I rented a *** Truck and a hand-truck dolly equipped with stairs-rollers, professional equipment.
Asked for compensation in my email, but didn't give an amount, but at the very least my gratuity should be returned, along with the cost of a non-replaceable magazine rack. It was made of leather sides and framed in wood, all in dark brown. Never seen another one like this, just a shame.

Desired Outcome

As mentioned in my complaint, I request at least compensation for gratuity and possible the loss of my magazine rack, it was not a $20 item. And I do also want an apology for this mishandled move, both because of the damaged items and lack of owner communication.

Note how GRATUITY is highlighted in ALL CAPS, like it is a requirement not a "tip" for "good service".

We never received an email from our customer.
He praised the crew and said they worked hard, when he called in his credit card. He didn't mention the damage.
I will contact the customer and make sure his tip is returned and that he is compensated to his satisfaction.
We will also try to professionally repair the tv stand and search for a replacement or repair his special magazine rack.
The project was a last minute booking and one of the movers was not as experienced as we would normally dispatch.
I will use better judgement in the future.

No excuse for my emails to be overlooked, my original email for requesting a quote was in his JUNK box. Explains why I did not get a reply from my question in regards to the second pickup needed on the way to the delivery site. My phone service is terrible and I have to get another service and or phone and contact the business.
