2 Weeks after service, I was informed that my hair had a relaxer in it. I visited this salon and they offered my deep conditioner. My curls are now gone. Ive never had any chemicals in my hair before. I remember her parting my hair and sitting under the dryer. She tried to say it was due to over heat.
I am responding to the above-referenced complaint filed by a customer at my salon. I appreciate the opportunity to correct the record on this matter.
This customer visited my salon in College Park, Maryland. As is our practice, customers sign in when they arrive and indicate in the log what kind of service they request. In this case the customer had written that she requested a wash, deep conditioning and blow out treatment for her hair. Our charge for this service is $65. Notably, the customer did not request a hair relaxing treatment and we did not provide this service to her (which is typically provided for an additional charge, if requested).
The customer previously had her hair in braids, and it required a significant shampooing to clean her hair and scalp. After washing her hair, we applied conditioner followed by a short period with a hair cap on under the dryer. Next, we washed away the conditioner and proceeded to the blow out stage which involves applying a leave-in conditioner, blow drying the hair, applying a hair protecting spray and straightening the hair with a hair iron. Customers requesting the blow out are seeking to straighten their curly hair.
I have been providing hair styling service for 30 years and the service provided to this customer was a typical deep conditioning and blow out treatment provided at "Dominican" hair salons such as ours. The Dominican blow out is a relaxer-free method of temporarily straightening hair. I am licensed to provide beauty service in Maryland and the District of Columbia and have been providing high-quality beauty service at our current location for 12 years. At my salon we strive to provide the best service possible to each client and virtually all our customers are satisfied and return for regular attention to their beauty needs.
I am disappointed that this client is unhappy with her hair, but I want to emphasize that we did not relax her hair with relaxing chemicals or otherwise, and our beauty service did not damage her hair. We simply provided a typical deep condition and blow out service as we have provided to many customers over the years. This client received the service that she requested, and that service was delivered properly and in a professional manner. For this reason, we must decline her request for a refund and other unspecified damages.
