Mrs. [redacted] contacted me about staining a patio at her home. When I met with Mrs. [redacted] to discuss her project she told me she wanted to match the colors in a sphere that she had in her garden. I showed her a color chart and she chose three colors of stain that she wanted me to use. I...

explained to her that the colors could not be put on heavily so that the sealer could lock the stain to the slab.  I applied the three colors Mrs. [redacted] chose according to the manufacturer’s recommendation. Mrs. [redacted] was not happy with the color. I explained to her that even though it didn’t appear that the colors were as vivid as she wanted, that the application of the sealer would bring out the color in the product. At that point she exclaimed, “I don’t see the color, I want more color applied.” I told her that to apply more stain would go against the manufactures recommendations and cause the sealer not to work properly, that it
would not lock the stain to the slab. I further advised her that if more stain was applied that I could not be responsible for the outcome of the project. At that point she insisted, “I don’t care, I want more color.”  Again, I strongly advised her against applying more stain, and again, she insisted that more be applied. I repeated yet again, that if more color was applied that I could not be responsible for the quality of the project. Still she insisted, so going against my better judgment I applied more stain.  Just over a year later the stain began flaking off, at which point Mr. [redacted] began calling me.  He wanted me to fix it. I told him that the reason the stain was coming up was because too much stain had been applied to the patio at the insistence of his wife and that the sealer had not been able to lock the stain to the slab as I had warned that it would. Mr. [redacted] then insisted that if it could not be fixed, I was to refund them $650.00.
I have been in business doing decorative concrete for more than 22 years, and have never had a client go against my recommendation for an install until the [redacted]. I do not feel responsible for the outcome of the project, but did refund the money to resolve the issue. I am responsible, for going against my better judgment in an effort to please the client.  My reputation as a quality installer of decorative concrete has kept me in business all these years. I have
never had to advertise my business because satisfied clients have referred me to other businesses, family, friends, and neighbors. I regret that I was unable to work with Mrs. [redacted] to provide a quality project.
