I am aware of the complaint from Mrs. [redacted]. The situation has been resolved despite her stating that communication has ceased. There was only a two day period that she didn't receive a response, I hardly consider that ceased  communication. However, here is my situation and maybe you can help...

me going  forward. I purchased this business 6 years ago. The previous owner used plastic  gift cards. So when I took ownership I switched to paper certificates. I continued to honor the previous owners gift cards for a period of five years with a sign posted at the front desk for six months June 2015 - January 2016 stating that starting 01/01/2016 we will no longer be taking gift cards that were issued prior to 2010. Despite this I did honor Mrs. [redacted]'s gift cards. I was able to locate the receipts for them (after digging through years of paperwork). I decided it would be best to refund her, as she was very insulting to us and thought having her as a customer wouldn't satisfy her and she would have more criticism towards us. Going forward I would like to know my rights on gift cards that are over six years old that weren't sold by me. I am well aware that in NYS gift cards cannot expire for a period of five years and that a monthly charge can be applied to a gift certificate balance after 12 months. I just need to know if there is anything to protect me from honoring these cards indefinitely. Thank you for your time, Kelly Baker Owner Aria on the Avenue LLC.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
