My experience with Arizona Gastroenterology and the Arizona Digestive Institute was very poorI made an appointment to see Dr*** at the clinic off of Tangerine road They are sharing office space with another group and the only indication that you have the proper address is an 1/X piece of paper taped to the window Far from a great, professional first impression The Dr spent about two minutes by the clock in the room with me before rushing out; my questions unanswered I was scheduled for a colonoscopy Some time about a week later the staff called confused as they showed I was scheduled for both a colonoscopy and an endoscopy I had to correct them on the procedure that I was to receive I did receive paper instructions for the colonoscopy and a prescription for the prep
My prep was to begin on a Sunday prior to the procedure I received a text message asking me to log in with a PIN number to receive instruction The problem: nobody told me to expect this and I had no PIN number I could not log in to review the information The following day, I was busy at work and honestly neglected to call I found it laughable though when a follow up text came asking me to log in again, but the text came after office hours for AG so I could not get my PIN number again I called on Tuesday to get my PIN number You absolutely CANNOT reach a live person directly I left a message hoping to catch up with the staff even though I was working They called back and of course I missed the call Laughably, in her message, the staff member told me that I could "just talk to anyone" when I called back Problem: you can't reach anyone! Determined to get my PIN, I called repeatedly until I lucked out and finally made contact with a live person I got my PIN and accessed the site only to discover that the materials online conflicted with the printed materials I had been given! Talk about frustrating! And forget trying to call anyone for clarification I simply did not have the time to repeatedly call again in the hopes of hitting the lottery win and reaching a live person
I had questions as to whether or not the issue I went in for (internal hemorroids) would be corrected during the procedure I never did get an answer prior to the procedure I even tried to question this as they wheeled me in for the procedure only to be cut off with the words "sweet dreams" as the anesthesia was administered and out I went
The day before my procedure I received a call that my insurance company had blessed my procedure and that my co-payment would be $ I was shocked! According to my insurance company my cop-payment was to be $ I tried to call and rectify this with the "benefits" person and of course, I had to leave a voicemail I could not reach this individual and I did not receive a call back
The morning of the procedure, I arrived to a standing-room only waiting room and was minutes past my procedure time before I was even called to the window to go over my insurance information There I argued over my co-payment and was told that they had corrected it to $300, and that if I wanted my procedure that day, I would have to pay it My other option it seems was to reschedule until I could work out the insurance snafu Of course anyone who has undergone a colonoscopy will tell you that you don't want to go through the "prep" again if you don't have to I felt as though I was held hostage, so I paid the $and went back for my procedure finally an hour after the scheduled start time
I will say that the entire NURSING and ANESTHESIA staff were AMAZING! Kudos to you folks at ADI You were the only positive in this experience
I finally had to call and get my insurance company involved in the process I am now vindicated learning that I should not have been charged the $that day Now, I get to wait - weeks for a refund check!!! Really? You hold me hostage to immediately grab that $300, but then I have to wait a couple of months to get it back? I cry foul!
Bottom line: The doc was dismissive and apparently too busy to answer my questions You can't reach a live person in the AG office They are apparently confused by which procedure you are scheduled for It's up to you as the patient to set them straight on procedure Don't count on the instruction paperwork as it conflicts with the online instructions Ask for you PIN in advance or you can't access the online instructions and you won't be able to reach anyone in the office to get your PIN Call, call, call to make sure you understand your financial responsibility before you go in Once again, the office staff clearly has no clue what they are doing, so it is up to you as the patient to set them straight there as well And God forbid you to give in to the hostage situation and give them money, you will be waiting a long time to get it backOverall the experience was poor
