Army Jeep Parts inc Reviews (1)

Review: I had just purchase a 1945 jeep Willys that was in very good condition. Drove it on the July 4 parade and it performed beautifully in the 93 degree heat of Washington DC without overheating or any other problem. Before taking it to the DMV for inspection, I sent it to Army jeep parts in PA for a check up. [redacted], the owner of the shop mentioned all sort of issues without giving me an estimate for those repairs. Over the phone, each problem was downplayed in term of cost. One hour here, two hours there max, plus parts. I gave the OK for those items and requested by E Mail an estimate in writing. Never Got the Estimate but each Item that was supposed to be fixed easily became a worst problem, involving more work . The new brakes system did not stop the car, the rebuilt carburetor did not make the car run, the new front axel ( to stop a noise in the front) did not stop the noise. The cooling system that works perfectly was mess with and did not cool anything anymore and on top of that things stop working ( the coil - the gas pomp).Still without an estimate I was presented a bill for $7,624.00In shock I was promised that my car will be in top form for this top price. Eager to have my car back before more damages was made on the car and my bank account I ask to have it truck back to me and sent a check for the amount on the bill. When the truck arrived to pick up my car, [redacted] ( the owner of the shop) had just broke the rear axel of my jeep and rush to repair it for another $250 dollars that he charged on my credit card. When the jeep finally arrived at my house ( today Sept 5, 2013) I turn the engine on and immediately the temperature of the engine went up to 200 degrees.I try to drive a couple of yard to cool the system but the temperature continue climbing.I stop the all thing and noticed that the cooling fluid was leaking from everywhere onto the street. For 7,624.00 dollars, a car that was fine and just needed some tuning and adjustment has become inoperable.Desired Settlement: I am requesting a total refund in order to be able to give it to a trusted mechanic that will make it drivable again.

Please find attached my response to **. [redacted] assessment that I find false.

Ref: claim ID [redacted].

Dear **. [redacted] The Revdex.com 50 West North Street Bethlehem, PA 10818

I have found **. [redacted]’s response to my claim false and full of contradictions. My response shall be clear.

Let me start by strongly opposing the initial assessment of **. [redacted] about the quality of the vehicle. Sure, this jeep is from WWII, but this the point and it has been very well kept and maintained by the previous owners (testimonies can be provided on request). I bought this collection car from [redacted] Sport Cars in [redacted], FL last June. This very reputable company has been selling cars for decades. Nevertheless, because of the high asking price, I engaged the services of [redacted] Engineering, experts in vintage cars, to assets this vehicle. In summary they sent me a report stating that the car was solid and has no technical problem (report available on request).

I collect antic cars and I already own a WWII Jeep. I can assess that on delivery, the car was as good as expected and was running great. I droved it in the 4th of July parade for two hours by 93 degree of torching heat without overheating or any other problem. (If necessary, I could provide witness.)

Nevertheless, I decided that the car could benefit from a tuning, in particular: A noise in the front wheels could be fixed, the breaks could be stronger, the steering a little tighter and some bulbs had to be replaced. All normal adjustments and maintenance for an old and precious car.

For this job, I sent the car to Army Jeep Part, the closest “ Jeep specialist” to my home I could find. Prior to loading the car for transport, I photographed the car inside out (this was for transport insurance purposes but those pictures came to be very handy later on).

I explained very clearly by phone to **. [redacted] what I needed. He said he would look at it. He called me the following day. This is when the worst consumer’s nightmare started for me:

- According to **. [redacted], everything with the car was wrong. The list was long, confusing, and in many aspects self-contradictory. For example: He declared that the cooling system has to be completely replaced by a fancy one that he had developed and willing to sell it for a “good” price. I told him that the cooling was good and performed perfectly on a heat wave. His reply was that this car would overheat anyway. We settled for a flushing of the radiator.

- Everyday was bringing more issues to the car: The original wire harness has to be replaced, the engine to be rebuilt, the exhaust to be replaced, the transfer case to be

rebuilt, the distributor to be changed, etc. Very surprised by this flood of new mechanical issues and in an attempt to clear the situation, I sent an E mail to **. [redacted] limiting the list of parts to be worked on, asking at the same time for their cost and formally requesting a written estimate (copy of Email can be provided).

Ignoring my request for an estimate, **. [redacted] started to work on the car and things got more and more out of hand. Everything he touched suddenly broke and needed more work to be repaired. For example, after rebuilding the entire break system **. [redacted] acknowledged that the car would not stop anymore. To fix that, additional work would be needed at my own expenses.

This nightmare scenario went on for weeks.

Still in absence of an initial written estimate, and based only on misleading verbal repair cost, I tried to monitor the progress by phone (I am 200 miles away). What I got finally was a hand written invoice for $7, 624.31 with an acknowledgment by **. [redacted] that the car was not running properly anymore and extra work was needed. To make me swallow the purge, **. [redacted] said he would not charged me for this “extra work”, a $500 saving for me (as he put it).

In total shock I asked for the return of the car as soon as it was ready having no other choice than sending by Fedex the check requested by **. [redacted]. A pick up was arranged.

Just before loading the car **. [redacted] managed to break the rear axle. The axle was replaced in a rush and **. [redacted] charged on my credit card an additional $258.00 for his own snafu.

When the car was delivered I went for a test drive but the car did not go very far. In less than a block the car lost most of his coolant and the engine overheated badly.

THE CAR WAS NOT OPERABLE.

As one could imagine that I was very unsatisfied but **. [redacted] was not reachable to inform him of the situation.

I decided to file a formal complaint with the Revdex.com and to block the payment until resolution. The following day I informed **. [redacted] by Email of the situation.

As soon as possible I sent the car to my local mechanic for assessment. His conclusions were:

- All the clamps installed by **. [redacted] where loose, causing the coolant to leak profusely. As a result, the original engine has badly overheated and has been compromised.

- In addition, when changing the rear axle in a rush, the car was lifted the wrong way and the rear suspension has been crushed. As a result, the car has lost its safe driving capacity.

I also compared the photographs taken before sending the Jeep to **. [redacted] with the car as it stands now (photographs provided on request). I found the following:

The engine compartment did not look the same.. .and not for the better. From what I could see, some rare original parts have been badly damaged or replaced by aftermarket copies: The Original oil filter housing and the original horn bracket. Contrary to **. [redacted] assessment none of them could be founded in the pieces returned to me.

In conclusion, **. [redacted] has broken the following rules:

- A customer is entitled to a written estimate that has to be accepted before any work could start.

- Original valuable parts should not be replaced by copies without customer’s permission.

As one can imagine I am very dissatisfied with **. [redacted]’s services, nevertheless, I have no time to pursue **. [redacted] in court but if he chooses to claim any more money from me, I would have no other choice than to countersue him, asking for damages, attorney fees, travel expenses and compensation for the time wasted.

This WWII jeep is almost 70 years old; it is not just a vehicle it is a rare piece of American History. Its value resides primarily in its original integrity. This car’s historical and commercial value has been greatly compromised in **. [redacted] careless hands.

Sincerely
