In the matter of Job #1137 a ladies Seiko received on 9/17/16 from [redacted]; On 9/23/16, Salem's completed the service (cleaned, oiled and regulated the movement at a charge of $68.50); and installed a new gasket on the caseback (at a charge of $10.50) to prevent moisture, dust, dirt and air from...
getting into the watch. The service was performed by removing the caseback to service the movement and put a new gasket on the caseback. We never had anything to do with the crystal We did nothing in or around the crystal to weaken it or cause it to get loose or fall out. Depending on how long the crystal was off the watch would determine the level of repair the watch now needs. Because the customer brought the watch to us to repair I wanted to be accommodating to show our appreciation that she would bring us the business, and gave her more than a fair offer since we did nothing to the crystal to begin with. Therefore, when the customer called, I offered her a solution of less than% price on a new crystal ($15.71 + tax = 17.00.) I must also add that the individual that worked on the watch is an accredited watch repairman who has a college degree in watch repair and a 40 year career repairing watches, certified by Seiko and worked at Rolex in Dallas. We attempted to contact the customer on 9/23 and had to leave a message. We did not attempt to contact her again as she called us. The customer could have returned the watch to us to get her the crystal and be sure that the watch was in perfect condition to return to her. We will not be paying for the repair the customer sent to Seiko. Often customers bring in the watch that they received back from Seiko Repair that has the same problem again. My watchmaker is able to work on the watch and fix it. Just because it is Seiko doesn't mean that their repairmen are any more skilled than ours. I do understand why the customer would think that, but it is not the case.
