am not only the owner ofArrowhead Outfitters, LLC but also Chief Pilot. This means I am in the field a lot and unable totake most of the calls. My previous Office Manager, Deb, handled this as well as the pre-huntorientation that our hunters are given before we take them into the field and drop them fortheir self-guided Caribou hunt. The group that included Mr. [redacted] was under the name[redacted] and included four (4) hunters and one (1) non-hunter for the total price of $1 1,680.00.We do not charge for the number of days your hunt is booked with us; the State of Alaskarequirement of not hunting the day you fly takes a scheduled seven (7) day down to five (5)days of actual hunting (this group scheduled August 9-15, 2015). The last day is used to breakcamp as there would not be enough time to process and pack the harvest back to your pickuplocation.During our orientation it is explained to all our hunters that weather can be a major factor inour communication and flying abilities. If we cannot see to take off or land we do not fly. We letthem know that we will do our best to honor a request to be moved to a new location or toremove them from the field as quickly as possible but our scheduled flights take priority. Uponthe first call we received from the [redacted] group it was explained to them that we had downtime for the planes due to weather and by the time we could move them they would only haveone day to hunt. They then called back and requested to be pulled out of the field a day early.Deb added them to the schedule with a reminder that the previously scheduled flights wouldbe made before their request could be accommodated. They called numerous times requestingan exact time they would be removed from the field and demanding that we make the group apriority. Deb did her best to give a fair estimation of time but this is extremely hard to do withsmall aircraft flying into remote areas. She called me on the radio to let me know howdemanding and rude they were on the phone. The fact that she called me like that let me knowthe situation was bad. Although they were already out of the field, a day early, I decided to nothead right back out to pick up other hunters without checking the situation at base camp first.Upon the [redacted] Group arrival at our base camp, one of the group members came to thecamper door and opened it on Deb without knocking. She felt he was acting very aggressive andberating my company. She stated, "I told him I was sorry he felt that way but it is not ok toattack me in this way and that he needed to take this up with the owner, Howard." It scaredDeb as she was the only person in camp at the time. I now assume this to be Mr. [redacted],if this assumption is correct there was nothing professional about his action or demeanor. Shewas VERY shaken and upset when I arrived. I tried to explain to the client that we could not flyuntil it was safe to do so and they were not even scheduled to come out of the field until thenext day. The weather can make flying and communications in this part of Alaska difficult attimes. The next thing I know, another member of the party gets out of the truck, gets right up inmy face, and started screaming about Afghanistan. I told him he was in Alaska now; he thencalled me an idot and continued to get more agitated. At this point, I knew this was goingnowhere so I told them to get off the property or I would call the Troopers. In my 35 years of owning my company I have never had anyone act the way this group acted.Ex-military or fight trainer should never even be brought into the situation. All that wasperceived from this was undertones of threats. This year, I had a group of military men whowere weathered in for several days. We attempted but could not get them out. They wereunable report back to the military base on time. That was a bad situation, but they neverblamed my company for the weather, or threatened anyone in any fashion. It is a shame thatthe [redacted] group was not prepared for this type of hunt and chose instead to blame, and inMr. [redacted]'s own words, "bully" Deb. The Tundra is deceiving and in no way flat. You mightthink you can see for miles but can and probably will miss a lot if you try to sit and spy. Theherds move constantly and every pilot does their best to put each group in the best areapossible. There were hunters who hiked more than the three miles stated by Mr. [redacted] to takehome the trophy from their "Hunt of a Lifetime". As a hunter myself, I would love to see eachhunter take home such a trophy but as a self-guided hunt it is all in what you are willing to putinto it.If you would like further information please contact the office at [redacted].Sincerely, rHoward T[redacted]President I Chief Pilot
