Review: Artem HVAC installed a new furnace 2/2013. Being an irresponsible business, there were items that needed to be resolved by Artem for code enforcement approval. One was a ground wire from the gas meter to the electric panel.

Artem’s electrician did the work on 1/29/14. While working, I lost my internet and phone. I asked what happened and he responded he doesn’t know why - he didn’t do anything. I called [redacted] who detected a problem with power not entering the modem.

On 1/30 the [redacted] tech discovered that Artem’s electrician when installing a ground wire into the basement attempted to use an existing hole that was currently used for the [redacted] wires. When drilling to enlarge the hole, he damaged the wires.

The technician showed me the wires that could have started a fire. He said since it is the fault of Arten’s electrician and not [redacted], there may be a charge. I immediately notified [redacted] at Artem emailing photos of the damaged wires and said them may be a fee but no reply.

I just received my [redacted] bill. The cost for the repair is $194.74 with tax. I emailed and her response was: As discussed with [redacted] and past e-mails, our men never damaged or removed anything. Invoice from [redacted] issued earlier will not be paid by this firm. Regards,[redacted]

There is an additional problem.

A emergency shut off valve was installed 3 yrs ago on my gas line in my basement. When Artem installed the furnace, a larger gas line needed to be installed from the gas meter into the basement. The line connected to where the valve was located. Artem’s plumber removed the valve instead of connecting to it.

I emailed photos of the valve to prove it was there to Artem stating that I want my shut off valve back as it was. [redacted] said the plumber does not know how to do shut off valves and it was removed for code compliance. I called the local code enforcer, he laughed stating it is good to have a shut off.Desired Settlement: The emergency gas shut off valve should be installed as it was before the new gas line was installed.

Payment of $194.74 for repairs to correct damages by Artem's electrician.

Response:

Dear All ,

Please be advised that , we reviewed Mr [redacted] complaint and completely disagree with his statements . Our plumbing crew had performed the work in accordance with the local codes and jurisdictions . We had successfully passed all required inspections and did not remove any vales Mr [redacted] is describing . Mr [redacted] has all the approved copies of the passed inspections and no additional plumbing work has been ordered by the township. Also electrician who had performed the work claims that no telephone wires had been ever damaged nor did he ever came close of potentially damaging the wires Mr [redacted] is complaining about. The electrician would like to see a written statement from the phone company claiming a fault of our electrician as part of the problem with the phone service .

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

As stated by Mr. [redacted]

“Our plumbing crew had performed the work in accordance with the local codes and jurisdictions . We had successfully passed all required inspections and did not remove any vales Mr [redacted] is describing . Mr [redacted] has all the approved copies of the passed inspections and no additional plumbing work has been ordered by the township.”

Yes – this is true. Plumbing was performed in accordance with code requirements. However Mr. [redacted] is having difficulty understanding my issue. This has nothing to do with code. As shown to Mr [redacted] in the photographs, the shut off valve was removed by the plumber for no reason. A shut off valve is NOT required by code nor is it prohibited by code. This was confirmed with [redacted] Code Enforcement. The shut off valve was originally installed for my convenience. The plumber had no reason or right to remove it.

As stated by Mr. [redacted]

“Also electrician who had performed the work claims that no telephone wires had been ever damaged nor did he ever came close of potentially damaging the wires Mr [redacted] is complaining about. The electrician would like to see a written statement from the phone company claiming a fault of our electrician as part of the problem with the phone service.”

While the electrician was outside working I lost my internet connection and phone. I told the electrician this and asked what he did. It is true that the electrician stated he did not do anything to my connection. If I did something that stupid I would not want to admit it either.

The [redacted] technician showed me the holes drilled by the electrician and showed me the damaged wires (which I have) of which a photograph was sent to Mr. [redacted].

Attached is a photo of the patched up holes drilled by the electrician and of the damaged wires. Also attached is a copy of the statement showing labor for the repair which took place the following day.

[redacted] technicians will only issue a statement as to the problem when they receive a subpoena. I complained about this policy to their executive customer relations with no satisfaction. I was told this is their policy and therefore [redacted] will only provide more information if this issue goes to court.

Estimate for new gas shut off

Regards,

Review: On February 3rd 2010, I signed a contract with [redacted] from Avalanche Heating and Air-conditioning , [redacted], [redacted]. The purpose of the contract was to replace our natural gas tank water heater with a tank-less water heater (see attachment #1). During the initial contract negotiation, Mr. [redacted] provided me with a NJ license, [redacted] and this information is also provided in the proposal (see attachment #2). In addition his website also produced a plumbing (NJ)license as #[redacted] (see attachment #3) I also did a background check on him through Revdex.com, which showed having a AAA rating at the time of this proposal. As stated in the signed contract (attachment 1, page 2), obtaining as well as successful passage of the permits associated with this work was the responsibility of Avalanche Heating and Air-conditioning . As such, I was to expect that Avalanche will be obtaining the required permit. It was also conveyed to me verbally by Mr. [redacted] that he has indeed obtained and successfully completed all the required permits by state/county/township laws. However, during a recent (August 29th, 2013) evaluation of our HVAC system (for replacement purpose), the contractor (The [redacted]; NJ License # [redacted]) asked me whether tank less water heater passed all the permit requirements. Based on the information I had at the time, I told him that it should have passed all the permit requirements set forth by the state/county/township. However, he asked me to double check with the township. As such, the very next day, I visited (Aug 30th , 2013) township office located at [redacted]. I met with a [redacted] at the township construction office. [redacted] informed me that she is unaware of any permit application for the tank-less water heater installation. As such, I immediately called Mr [redacted] on the numbers he provided (see attachment #4). However all the phone calls and messages left on his answering machine for the next 5-days were not returned. On August 30th, 2013, Franklin township official guided me to submit a permit application. Initial plumbing inspection by the code inspector showed defective installation (lacking direct vent for the inlet). Currently a work order with a new contractor(The [redacted] NJ license [redacted] ) is scheduled for the installation of a direct vent system (intake) for the tank less water heater.Desired Settlement: The estimated cost for this work is approximately 600.00. I addition Im also seeking any additional cost associated with the installation of the water heater, this include the requirement that the water heater requires an exclusive [redacted] line (estimated coat $1000.00).
