Arthritis and Rheumatology Clinic of Northern Colorado Reviews (%countItem)

After an initial visit with Dr T for a rhuematologic disease I have he ordered some lab work and prescribed medication. After the results came back the office called and stated that everything was normal and unremarkable, although they wanted to schedule another office visit so they could discuss the results. I was told this would be weeks out, and didn't have a reason for another complete office visit since I was also seeing my PCP. I asked if Dr T would be able to call me to speak about the lab results communicating with them that I don't live in the same town and don't need another full office workup at the moment just to discuss the lab results. This could be done quicker and without the unnecessary in person trip with a phone call. Dr T's assistant told me he doesn't make phone calls because he can't bill for them. After a visit with my PCP to review Dr T's lab results and information I asked Dr T's office for a letter stating that I had seen him for a rhuematologic issue and was being treated for it. They stated that unless they can bill for it through another scheduled office visit they will not fulfill this request. On these two separate occasions they have stated that they need to bill the full office visit amount even to just verbally review lab results and write up a quick Dr's note. This is an unethical billing business practice that others have complained about as well.

I am very sorry that this patientwas unhappy with the service that he received. Due to privacy reasons I am not able to go in tothe specific details of his health condition and the care that I provided. As a result, I am notable to specifically comment on most of the allegations contained in this complaint. I will saythat I strongly disagree with the characterization of myself and my employees in this complaint.I specifically disagree with his statements that indicated that my medical decisions were madebased on the need to generate billable services. In a general sense I would stress that in the care of a patient with a rheumatic disease thatfollowup appointments are very important. In a patient with an established disease theappointments are important to monitor progress and monitor for potential medication toxicity. Inpatients where a definitive diagnosis has not yet been established follow up appointments areimportant to clarify the diagnosis, determine if any further testing is needed, and to determine ifany definitive treatment can be provided.Again, I am very sorry that he was not happy with me and my office staff. I do wish him the verybest and encourage him to seek out other medical care for his condition.Michael T MDArthritis and Rheumatology Clinic of Northern Colorado,LLC

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because it is inaccurate with the reasons I was given by Dr. T and his office staff in regard to why I needed to schedule an initial follow up appointment, and other office appointments. I don't disagree with Dr. T and his reasoning behind why follow up appointments are necessary in certain medical circumstances. Although, in this situation I was specifically told that I needed to schedule a fully billable in person follow up appointment to discuss lab results only. His office left me a voice mail in regards to basic lab result information but were un willing to discuss any further detail without an appointment they could bill me for. Dr. T was initially unwilling to discuss anything over the phone, and insisted that I scheduled an office visit weeks out, in order to discuss these lab results in person. There was no request to be reevaluated or medically assessed during this follow up request by his office. At the time I was symptom free and relayed this to the office. They insisted I still needed to schedule a fully billable in person office appointment, although did not explain why this was necessary other than so they can bill me for an office visit. This was not the only time his office requested an office scheduled visit for other reasons apart from a medical assessment and evaluation. While seeking a formal letter from Dr. T in regards to my initial visit for my personal medical records, his office manager Jamie, and himself refused to do such a thing UNLESS I scheduled a billable office visit which would have been weeks out. Again showing that in the absence of a medical evaluation or assessment they are still seeking to bill for these "office visits". f It is clear that this office schedules unnecessary in person "office visits" for the purpose of billing only. Jamie the office manager confirmed this delightfully in a very rude manner over the phone. Obtaining all necessary personal medical documentation from the office is also conditional on the terms of paying for it. This is a form of fraud if you ask me. I have still not obtained my requested formal letter from Dr. T in regards to my initial office visit because I have not scheduled an office visit they could bill for. Dr. T has not taken any responsibility for these unprofessional billing practices and extremely rude office managers behavior, and continues to deflect and support these actions.

Regards
