Arthur Giles Plumbing Reviews (%countItem)

Giles Plumbing came to my house on a service call and dropped my 55 gallon fish tank. The company then refused to share their insurance information.
On February 7th I contacted Giles Plumbing LLC in order to look at a spot on my ceiling and the upper portion of my wall. The spot appeared to be a water leak and I needed someone to come out to take a look at it. When the two plumbers met me at the house, I showed them the spots on the ceiling. They then notified me that they would need to cut into the wall to see what it was. They communicated with each other that they did not bring a ladder and asked if I could provide them with a step stool or a ladder. I provided them with one. When I handed the ladder to them I then went to stand on my stairs to stay out of the way. Both men reached for my 55 gallon fish tank and proceeded to try and lift or slide it forward. The fish tank then fell, shattered, and all of the water fell all over my laminate floors. The plumbers cleaned up the water and then the plumbers from Giles then mentioned that they would have a restoration company reach out to me. The restoration company's name is ***.

The next day *** came to my house to remove my furniture and remove the damaged floors. With this being my first time as a home owner I thought this was the process.

On February 17th 2020 I contacted Giles Plumbing in reference to the damage to my floors. I asked to speak with the owner of the company. I was then contacted by Shannon. Shannon stated that she was the co-owner of the company. I explained the events of February 7th and she stated that she was aware and that she would need to contact the two gentleman who conducted the service call. When I called her back I asked what we needed to do for Giles Plumbing to replace my floors. She stated that her attorney and her insurance agency advised her not to share her insurance information.

On February 18th 2020 I called asking for Ray G and she stated that he was no longer involved with the company. I stated that she mentioned she was co-owner and I asked to speak to the other owner. She mentioned that the other owner was a private partner. I asked her to send me written documentation from her attorney or from her insurance as to why they would be released from liability and she said she would not provide me with that information. I asked for her insurance information and she would not provide me with that information. I asked for her last name and she would not provide me with that information.

For her, as a Co-owner, I was shocked that she was aware that 2 of her employees came to my house and dropped a fish tank and did not reach out to me as the customer. I reached out to the company and asked what the steps where for them to cover the floors. I then reached out for the insurance information. Every time I spoke with Shannon she would not provide me with any information needed for me to move forward in regard of the damages caused by her company.

Desired Outcome

I would like to find a resolution in reference to the water damage that was caused from the 55 gallon fish tank falling. I need replacement for my floor, all restoration expenses, pay for my time away from work to handle all interactions involving this matter, my fish tank (fixtures, lighting, decorations, pump, filter, and all of the decorations), and a new replacement for my damaged rug, Basket, and Shoes. I also should be waived from paying the service bill due to this entire matter.

Arthur Giles Plumbing Response • Feb 25, 2020

On February 7, 2020 we received a call requesting a plumber to come out the same day to provide an estimate for service at the property located at ***. The customer's name that was provided to *** Plumbing was *** The customer stated "water is leaking down the wall from the ceiling to the floor and bubbling up at the floor." The office staff told her that we were booked for the day, but would be sure to fit her into the schedule that day as we consider active water leaks emergency calls. Two of our plumbers called the customer to let her know that they were on the way. Upon arrival to the home, the plumbers were invited into the home by the customer. She showed the plumbers the location of leak that appeared to be in the ceiling and/or wall in the living room. The wall where the leak was coming from was obstructed by a large fish aquarium that was half full of dirty, algae-filled water, without any fish, and was sitting on the top of a table. They explained that this fish tank needed to be moved in order to diagnose the location of the leak and the plumbers were given permission by the customer to do so. As soon as the two plumbers picked the table up, the back leg collapsed and the fish tank fell to the floor. The plumbers immediately grabbed their shop-vac and towels and worked diligently to remove the water, algae and broken glass. The customer stated that it was a blessing that the incident occurred because she had been wanting the fish tank to be removed but she wasn't able to do so. The plumbers profusely apologized and stayed for hours to ensure there was no glass left on the floor. After the fish tank was removed, they were able to discover that there was a dura-pex leak in the wall, which was revealed by the mold/mildew stain on the sheetrock approximately 4-5ft high and the floors were buckling under the rug under the tank at the same wall. The dura-pex leak was repaired and the plumbers recommended that she call a restoration company. The floors were buckled before the plumber's arrival and the source of the damage was discovered in the wall once the sheetrock was cut. The initial estimate that was provided was $160-$180 upon arrival, however the invoice was reduced to $120. On February 10, we emailed the invoice to the customer. The invoice was viewed twice on 2/10/2020 by the customer which stated "water is leaking down the wall from the ceiling to the floor and bubbling up at the floor." The invoice also indicated that the dura-pex leak was repaired. On 2/18/2020, we received a call from the customer asking for the owner. I called the customer back and she shared that our plumbers had broken her 55 gallon fish tank that damaged her floors and that the restoration company, *** , left fans at her home and that she needed us to file a claim on our general liability insurance. I asked if she would give me time to speak with the plumbers, our insurance company and also ***. The plumbers had made us aware of the situation the day they went to the customer's house but I needed to consult with the other parties involved. After speaking with *** and our insurance company, I was made from the pre-existing dura-pex leak. I called the customer back and shared all of the above with her and she said all of the damage was a result of the fish tank being dropped onto the floor. *** confirmed that the leak was pre-existing and was the cause of the damage from the leak. The Customer received the attached invoice and submitted payment without any rebuttal. On 2/17 I received a call from the customer stating that we were responsible for the damage and at that point the customer had viewed her invoice 25+ times that day and 25+times per day in the days to follow. Since the first day I spoke with her, she has posted extremely negative comments/reviews and false accusations on many websites. Our company did not make the initial call to ***, however the customer reached out to them. After the customer consulted with her parents, she filed the homeowners insurance claim on without any representative from Giles Plumbing present. She was advised that we have no affiliation with ***, nor did *** Plumbing damage, extract or dispose of the customer's flooring. In an effort to make the client happy, we voided her check and removed the charge on her invoice.

I never stated that my floors were bubbling. When I called the focus point was the upper portion of my wall and my stained ceiling. When the plumbers arrived I showed them the location and they asked me for a ladder. I communicated that I did not have a ladder and provided them a *** stool. After providing a *** stool, I stood on my steps to remain out of the way. I did not give permission for the plumbers to lift my tank. Shannon asked me this over three times on February 17th when I originally called her in reference to this incident. They were never given permission to move my fish tank. If they needed to move my fish tank why would they ask me for a ladder? I did not have damages to my floor prior to the fish tank falling and I also never signed any paperwork releasing this company from liability in reference to damaging my property. I did not call this restoration company. When the fish tank originally fell the younger guy stated that they needed to call *** and he never planned on the day going like this. *** was not only recommended to me by Giles, *** was contacted and given my information. Following the service call, at precisely 4:12pm on February 7th I received a call from *** with *** asking what time he could meet. I never contacted this restoration company. Jeff called me. *** names was mentioned to me by the plumbers. The Plumbers mentioned that I would receive a phone call from him.

I spoke to both plumbers separately and they both told me the same story. Please see attached pictures that were taken before the plumbers left that clearly show that the damage was from a pre-existing leak and not caused by the water in the fish tank.

If there was no damage caused to the floors, why would the restoration company be called by giles plumbing to contact me? Also, what was the urgency behind removing the flooring within my house, if there was no damage, as claimed, caused by *** plumbing? I never made the request for new flooring. My request was to fix a leak in the ceiling and the upper portion of the wall. My service request never had anything to do with my floors. The result of my service request ended with my 55 gallon fish tank scattered all over the floors. Water was everywhere. On a laminate floor that is not waterproof. My original service request dealt with the upper portion of the room. If there was never any damage, as claimed, to my floors why did Giles Plumbing initiate the communication with the restoration company?

Arthur Giles Plumbing Response • Mar 12, 2020

We are not disputing the fact that the floors were damaged as I have clearly stated. The floors were definitely damaged BEFORE we went to the home as a result of a dura-pex leak behind the sheetrock. This has been validated with pictures and also the information provided by the customer that "water is leaking from the ceiling, down the wall and bubbling at the floor." Giles Plumbing did not remove the customer's flooring. The customer filed the insurance claim with her insurance company with the restoration company. We did not initiate the water damage claim nor have we been involved in any part of the customer's insurance claim.

My 55 gallon fish tank was dropped on the floor. The water was dispersed all over my floors. The damage caused my floors to be damaged. Had my fish tank not fallen the restoration company would not have been contacted by Giles.

I called my insurance company prior to even calling ***. The claim was in reference to a leak. When I reached out to *** to *** a claim in reference to the damage caused to my floors from the water displaced from the tank which caused my floors to lift *** denied me insurance information. *** did not work with me to try and find a solution on how damage was caused to my floors. *** stated they would pay an amount that was no where close to the actual cost of my fish tank and never gave me any opportunity to their insurance information in reference to the damage that was caused. That amount of water scattered across a floor that was not water proof certainly caused damage. I do not see *** taking ANY type of accountability in the fact that the dropped fish tank resulted in damage from an extreme amount of water on a floor that was not water proof.
