Met [redacted] at a library symposium I was giving.

After the presentation she asked me to examine her heirloom fan. After the
complimentary analysis she asked me to restore and mount her fan.  I conveyed to her without reservation, and
with witnesses...

that I travel extensively for my work, and therefore cannot
predict completion dates. I told her Institutional projects take precedence. I
also reiterated this many times via phone and email. After awhile I simply
become weary of answering the same question over and over. The objects I
conserve require what they require, and will be done when their done. All the
phone calls and emails in the world will not speed up the processes. Were the
fan not with me it would be still sitting in a drawer.

In the technological microwave, “point and click” age we
live in, private customers have become increasingly impatient. Ms. [redacted] may
think eleven months is too long, however, had she taken it to the Milwaukee
Public Museum she would be waiting years and spend ten times more than $200.00.
The mounting components alone cost more than that. I do this out of respect for
the objects knowing full well people would never pay full-price. I view it as
rescuing history as opposed to sentencing these irreplaceable objects to continued
deterioration in dark drawers.

The object will be completed as soon as is possible, as well
as is possible. At this juncture it need only be mounted.

Review: Mr. [redacted] of Artisan Restorations was hired to repair an antique fan belonging to me. He presented a program at the Brookfield Library, and I was impressed with his presentation. Ipaid him $200 and gave him the fan to repair. I told him I would be going out of state and there was no rush, but it has been almost a year now, and I would like to get the fan back.Desired Settlement: I would like the repaired fan back. If it was not able to be repaired, I would like the fan and my $200 returned.
