(Please excuse the delay in responding to this complaint. Our email server had been shutdown from 7/25 through 7/28 and we were unable to access our email accounts)

1.  Arts and Craftsmen LLC asked the customer to apply for the permits because we are unable to pull electrical and plumbing permits.  At the start of the project we told the customer that we were not applying for permits, and advised them against doing so, as well.  We are carpentry contractors, and comply to building codes within our trade. If we agree to complying with building codes it is for carpentry (building code)- we cannot commit to complying with eletrcial/plumbing codes because we are not electrical/plumbing contractors.

2.  The deficiencies that the inspector brought to the customers attention (after we had completed the project) were items that were not included in our proposal, and therefore were not our mistakes.

3.  Arts and Craftsmen LLC never refused to make the repairs that the inspector pointed out, even though those items were not in our original agreement.

4. Arts and Craftsmen LLC normally issues more than one proposal per project.  This project had a proposal that went through multiple revisions; the final agreement that both the customer and I signed and dated was not the same proposal that is attached with their Revdex.com complaint.

'trebuchet ms', sans-serif;">Today I received a notice in the mail regarding a customer complaint. It was assigned the ID of [redacted].
Thank you for this notice and for the request of my position on this matter.
(Below I have directly addressed the customers statement regarding the problem.)
It was NOT written in my contract that I "agreed to complete the electrical and plumbing in according to code in Shorewood", nor was it written in my contract that I was even taking the responsibility of acquiring plumbing or electrical permits. The bulk of the project was new tile, new cabinets, new appliances, and new paint (none of which require a permit)- it was by no means a major remodel.
After two weeks on the project I had a surprise visit by an inspector (at the customer's residence) who informed me that I needed to acquire an electrical and plumbing permit. The only reason I asked the customer to pull the permits was because I cannot legally pull a plumbing or an electrical permit (I am neither a licensed electrician nor a licensed plumber).
As for the deficiencies that the inspector pointed out, some of those items were NOT part of my contract. Secondly, I NEVER refused to make the repairs on the "9 deficiencies" that the inspector pointed out (even the items outside of my contract). Rather, I informed the customer that I would schedule the time to make those repairs. Unfortunately, the inspector put a deadline on the repairs of those items that I could not meet. Lastly, the customer was not "forced" to hire licensed plumbers and electricians- the inspector directly instructed the homeowner to hire licensed plumbers and electricians to make those repairs.
The first statement made by the customer in their company review on Revdex.com of Wisconsin website was that "Arts and Craftsmen came in on labor at half of what other places were going to charge". This is a reflection of the fact that I was not intending on doing the project with a permit, nor was I proposing to hire licensed electricians and plumbers! My labor proposal would have been much more. I feel that the customer is reacting to the reality of what a project really costs having to do the work under a permit.
If I can be of any more assistance please do not hesitate to contact me in writing to the address below or to this email address. If certain statements need to be more directly addressed I would be happy to do so. Please let me know how I can help. Thanks again.
Respectfully,

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Points 1 and 2 are blatant lies. I asked Arts and Craftsmen a number of times about pulling permits, and they assured me that for the work we were doing, they were mot necessary. Not once did they tell me they couldn't, or advise me to not pull the permits. The building inspector visited the project before the work was completed, not after. The inspector will attest that at those meeting, Arts and Craftsmen agreed to their code requests. Moreover, Arts and Craftsmen paid for the fines incurred as a result of not pulling the permits prior to the work. Again, this is done before the project was completed.
Point 3: I have emails and texts from [redacted] initially agreeing to complete the work, and then ignoring my requests to determine a date. As he knew, the NOC had a due date, at which point I would incur additional penalties. Therefore, I would argue he refused to complete the work.
And Point 4: Yes, there were other contracts, but they all include the line about completing work to building code.

Regards,
[redacted]
