I purchased a certified pre-owned Lexus IS 250 on August 13th 2011 with approximately 50K miles on it. Shortly after purchasing the car I experienced the engine shutter and rough idling upon stopping at a red light or stop sign.I took the car to the dealership and they said there was a misfire on one of the cylinders and they replaced what needed to be replaced to stop the misfire. I left and within weeks my car starting doing the same thing again, but worse. I went back to the dealership with the car and they checked it out again. They informed me that the car had carbon build up from the engine and that all the piston rings and etc. would be replaced at no cost to me. This is a problem Lexus is aware of and they would be fix it. I get my car back and all is good for a couple when the shutter of the engine returns. I take the car back to the dealership and they are unable to replicate it so I leave with the car and am told to bring it in if it does it again. I explain to them that this happens intermittently and I live 45 minutes from the dealership. I proceed to take the car back several times before it is finally replicated. They were able to replicate it this past September. Oddly enough, it was exactly one year to the date of the engine rebuild that was performed. Since all the parts were new and the carbon build up was bad they did a top engine clean and told me I needed to perform a top engine clean every 15K miles to clean up carbon build up and for the engine to run correctly. I found it absurd that I was asked to maintain a known problem with the car. I called Lexus customer service and was given a dealership credit to cover the next top engine clean. Within a week of having the car back the engine sputtered so bad at a red light I thought it might quit this time. It happened again that day. I took the car back to the dealership and they were not able to replicate it. This is a known problem and Lexus knows it intermittently yet they are running me ragged to replicate.
