This fan had rotated times per minute for hours before being an issue again We never had a fan shroud to install If we had, then it would have been obvious that something was wrong with either the fan blade of the fan shroud My next question is why did the first fan come apart only miles after the first motor was installed in Arizona? Is there some underlining issue causing these fans to make contact with the fan shroud such as motor mounts or transmission mounts being torn creating excessive movement? It is our belief that all of this could have been prevented if [redacted] would have left this motor home here for a finalized repair

Complaint: 1***
I am rejecting this response because: This is really going nowhere. Ever since I call Ascent in June, 2014, I've had no response to emails, or one personally delivered letter requesting a response. Additionally, I was told "why are you calling me, call *** Engine". Ascent Automotive has totally distanced themselves. They have never made any effort to correct the situation, or even asked what can we do to help you. I asked if they wanted the motor home towed to them, and they never replied with an answer. They know that the fan size was the wrong size, and haven't even offered to replace the wrong part. The fact is they installed the wrong part, that was too big, it cut the radiator hose, which caused the engine to overheat, which caused the engine to fail, and additionally it tore out a replacement fan shroud. Thank you, Revdex.com, for your efforts, but I will just resolve this in the judicial court system

Here are the copies of the bills that you requested regarding you Revdex.com id #***. Item A is from Ascent Automotive for $for installing the wrong, oversized size fan which caused the motor home's radiator to get cut about miles after picking the unit up, which caused Item B, a tow bill for $350.00, and item C a bill from Visone Auto Mart, $532.39, for the fan shroud that the oversized fan destroyed, and item D my cost to replace a warranted engine of $4,269.32. *** ***

We worked on this motor home  on 6-10-14.  It was on the side of the highway up battle mountain pass just outside of Red Cliff, Co.  It was the weekend of the [redacted] games.  This motor home was not in a good spot.  When the tech first arrived at the location it was believed that the fan came apart and destroyed the fan shroud.  As my conversation with [redacted],  there was just a motor installed in Arizona a week ago.  We informed [redacted] that we need to get this motor home off of the highway and to the shop.  Without seeing this motor home we ordered a fan and a fan clutch.  All we had for information was the year and the engine size of the motor home.  Yes we ordered a fan for this vehicle.
The intent was to get this motor home back to the shop for repair, especially  since our parking lot is large enough to store a vehicle of this size.  This was our plan the entire time and [redacted] knew this, but this never happened.  Once the fan was on and the engine was running we never saw this motor home for a finalized repair.   [redacted] wanted to take the motor home closer to his house,  we cannot fix a problem when the customer will not give me the vehicle.  We are unable to perform a complete repair or tell the extent of damage from the first fan that came apart on the side of the highway in the dirt.
The damage to the cooling hoses could have been started when the first fan came apart at a high RPM and then finally opened up when the system pressurized once driven and hot.  We are located at the bottom of the mountain pass and we wanted to get it turned around and driven to the shop.   When [redacted] was in the office paying his bill he asked about driving it home and we told him, this was not a good idea but it would probably be ok.  We also told him to watch the temperature since there was no fan shroud in the vehicle.   The fan shroud directs air flow through the radiator for cooling and also keeps any components out of the fan blade.  With no fan shroud in the motor home this vehicle repair was never complete.  Yes the fan was a different material from the original.  If I recall correctly the builder of this motor home has been out of business since 2007 and I was unable to obtain any parts from them.  [redacted] mentioned that he used to be in sales for motor homes and could most likely find these parts.  This was great since it would have been difficult for me to locate them.  [redacted] states that he stopped by with the motor home twice, this is not the case.  He was in a gray or brown [redacted] that he borrowed from a friend.  My belief is that he needed to return the car and had no way to get home to new castle, so he chose to take the motor home even though the repair was not complete.  There is no other explanation for not completing a repair of this nature.  My question is, if this fan is so wrong, why was it used again by a second shop who installed the third motor with the shroud that [redacted] purchased?
The fan we purchased was installed in the third motor and went 233 miles.    At 65 mph,  233 miles, and probably 2500 rpm this fan went a long way before being an issue.  It should have been discovered by the second shop at installation or at least at time of startup of the third motor.  The clearance from fan to fan shroud is not that big.  This should have been noticed by the second shop since they had the fan shroud to install that [redacted] was able to locate. We also haven’t seen this fan shroud either.  Is it correct?   This fan had rotated 2500 times per minute for 3.5 hours before being an issue again.  We never had a fan shroud to install.  If we had, then it would have been obvious that something was wrong with either the fan blade of the fan shroud.  My next question is why did the first fan come apart only 750 miles after the first motor was installed in Arizona?  Is there some underlining issue causing these fans to make contact with the fan shroud such as motor mounts or transmission mounts being torn creating excessive movement?  It is our belief that all of this could have been prevented if [redacted] would have left this motor home here for a finalized repair.

In regards to the rejection of our response.  Ascent Auto LLC offers a full 12month/12 thousand mile warranty on everything we work on.  We have already ordered another fan and when the diameter was measured, it did not match the dimensions stated by [redacted].  Automotive parts do get superseded quite often,  they  change in design and material all the time.  The reason the engine overheated was the lack of a fan shroud, not the fan.  Since the fan shroud was never installed this is not an accurate statement.  Ascent Automotive assumes no liability because It is our firm belief that if this vehicle was left with us to repair completely, instead of being driven to New Castle, none of this would have occurred.
