from [redacted] the owner.  The invoice specifies that other work was to be done as required by code such as trimming the lower branches of the closest tree and using a propane forth to further seal the base.  That work was not completed.  However, since the most pressing item was completed, I am dropping the issue as it simply isn't worth dealing with this company.

Review: Paid for work never performed. After 3 months, individual informed me he didn't have the skill to do the job. He indicated he would return my money last November and hasn't. He won't return phone calls.Desired Settlement: Pay me the amount due.

Review: I made an appointment for 11:00 am on Wednesday May 4, 2016 (today) to get a chimney sweep done on our house. After waiting for a half hour (11:00 am- 11:30 am), Ashes to Ashes- Dust to Dust never arrived. I then left the house to continue on with my day of appointments/work. I then received a voice mail from the owwner around 11:45am stating that they would be late. At that point, I had already left the property and was unable to return. I received another phone from the representative/worker at 12:30 pm stating that they were at the property and ready to conduct the chimney sweep. I then explained to the representative/worker that no one arrived at the scheduled appointment time of 11:00 am and we would have to cancel the appointment. I later received a phone call from the owner stating that he would be billing us $85 for the service call.Desired Settlement: I don't feel that I should have to pay for the service call amount of $85 since Ashes to Ashes- Dust to Dust was an hour and a half late to the appointment and there was no prior agreement for a service fee.

Review: On July 24, 2015, [redacted] and his son cleaned my chimney. They noticed that the crown of the chimney needed to be re-mortared, and that there was no chimney cap/spark arrester, and quoted a price of $135 for the cap/arrester and $85 for the re-mortar job, and asked to be paid in advance. When they failed to complete the work, I tried numerous times to reach them at the phone numbers listed on their invoice or on their online website, leaving messages asking them to call back when their voicemail answered the calls. One time, I talked briefly to [redacted], who insisted the job would be done shortly. On the other occasions, they failed to return the calls. On October 14, 2015, I sent them a letter asking for a refund by October 23, and informed them that I would take further action if the refund was not received. As of October 26, 2015, I have not heard further from them. I am also considering filing a claim in small claims court.Desired Settlement: As stated above, I would prefer receiving a refund for the work that was not done - a total of $220. However, if they will satisfactorily complete the work promised, I would also consider the situation resolved. I would like them to contact me before they attempt to do this work, and to let me know what day they will accomplish this, so that I can be on hand to monitor the completion of the project.

Review: Ashes to Ashes, took a $300 deposit toward a quoted $700+ repair to our chimney. He has never performed the work, and will not return the money.

On October 23rd, 2013 [redacted] owner of Ashes to Ashes gave us an estimate of $747 to repair the chimney on our second home at [redacted], South Lake Tahoe. We gave him a check for the requested $300 deposit and he promised to do the repairs with 2 weeks. He requested that the check be made out to him personally.

He has never done the work. He avoids our calls most of the time and gives lame excuses when he happens to inadvertently answer the phone. Examples are: "he can't find a copy of the work order"; "he can't remember the location", "his paperwork is a mess", etc.

Doing the background research that we should have done in the first place reveals the following:

1. He does not have a fictitious name registration in either El Dorado or Nevada counties.

2. Ashes to Ashes, Inc. is not a valid California

corporation-as his paperwork represents.

3. Neither Ashes to Ashes or [redacted] have business licenses anywhere in the Lake Tahoe basin.

4. At least 8 others have reported typical situations on www.merchantcircle.com

For what it is worth, we have an original invoice prepared by [redacted] showing receipt of our $300 payment.Desired Settlement: Refund in cash or USPS Money Order.

Review: Job not finished-deposit not returned

I paid $200.00 deposit for materials to the company owner to extend the outside chimney on my cabin last March 12, 2012 and so far the job was never completed. Our arrangement was when he finished the job, I agreed to pay him the balance of the cost. He did a good job cleaning the (inside) chimney-then he recommended extending the outside chimney 3 feet -I agreed. I have tried to contact Mr. [redacted] at least 6 times by phone messages and/or letters to finish the job- so far no response not even a phone call.

Enclosed is a copy of the original invoice dated Mar 15, 2012 and two of my letter I sent to him.Desired Settlement: My preference to solve this situation is for him to complete the chimney extension and finish the job. If he is unable to do the work, I want the $200.00 deposit returned.

Review: In October 2013, I paid $145 to Ashes to Ashes to provide and install a chimney cap. The cap was needed for safety and to keep birds from entering my elderly parent's cabin. The company cashed the check and promised to order and install the chimney cap the next week. It is now February 2014. I and my family members have made numerous phone calls (at least 3 or 4 each month) to this business. When we reached the owner (sometimes we'd only reach an answering machine...those calls were never returned), he always told us he would install the chimney cap "the next day" or "the next week." He never delivered on his promises. When I called this evening (February 10, 2014) to say we would have to reluctantly take him to Small Claims Court, he first claimed that he couldn't remember the job. When I reminded him of the address, he said he couldn't say why he wasn't able to do the job. He said if he hadn't completed it by the end of the week (now, why does that sound familiar?) we could go ahead and take him to Small Claims Court. After checking other online reviews, I see that the business has a history of doing this sort of thing. I told the owner that my parents, who own the cabin, were 88 and 92 and could not afford to give him $145. He expressed no compunction or remorse.Desired Settlement: Refund the $145 paid for providing and installing a chimney cap - which was never done.

Review: This company did work on my chimney in October of 2015. On the final day of work, while his son was at my home finishing the work, the owner emailed me an invoice that exceeded the original quote by $378.00. I had emailed him a few days prior (have the email record) to state that the total charges would be $975.00. I also outlined the scope of work: repair fire box (completed) install doors (completed) clean chimney NOT completed, ever. The owner has been badgering me ever since for the additional amount. He has called at ALL hours of the day and night and demanded payment. This is open harassment. Also, I do not believe that: (a) he has a business license (b) the repairs he made were to building codeDesired Settlement: I want this guy informed of my complaint and for him to cease the phone calls immediately.I would also like the county of [redacted] informed of his lack of Business License.

Review: I ordered chimney doors with a $1400 deposit from Ashes to Ashes in May but they failed to deliver and install. The owners have stopped taking my calls. I contacted the vendor who makes the doors to be installed and they said that they have no order on hand from Ashes to Ashes.Desired Settlement: I'd like my $1,400 deposit back from them immediately.
