Initial Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2015/08/06) */
One of the services we provide at no charge to our patients is to courtesy file any remaining balance to their insurance companiesIn this case the patient's insurance would not pay because their deductible was not met for the yearWe then
sent a letter to the patient to the address they provided us with a statement of the balance and the reason the insurance did not payThe insurance company also sends the patient an Explanation of Benefits letter detailing payments to us and what is or is not covered by them
We attempted to contact the patient on five separate occasions over a four month period but had no responseThe first four attempts were made by letter and the last was a phone callWee had to leave a message with a request for the patient to call us back
After months with no response we used our last option and turned it over to a company that manages our collectionsWe gave them the same contact information the patient provided us at the time of their visit and it is the same that we sent our statements to
We value our patients and would prefer to never send anyone to collectionsWe make every reasonable attempt to contact them before this happensWe also work with our patients to make sure they can make their payments in a timely manner to help alleviate additional financial burden to them
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 11, 2015/08/07) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I did not receive statements or a call from this officeThe first correspondence I have had since March was in July to change my September appointment to a different dateI have been seen every six months for over years by this office and have never experienced this kind of problemThey had no problem contacting me for their convenienceI still feel this is poor business practiceI work for a medical office and patients are not treated this way for a delinquent bill of only monthsI feel I am entitled to a refund of the difference between my balance and what I paid the recovery service which was the same day I received the notice
Final Business Response /* (4000, 13, 2015/08/14) */
Our office has consulted Springfield Recovery and reviewed our procedures to determined that months and contact attempts is more than most businesses undertake before turning delinquent accounts over to collectionsWe believe we made every reasonable attempt to make contact with the patient using the information provided by themThe recovery service used the same address we did to contact the patient
We value our patients and their welfare and hope any situation like this never happensWe have decided to send a check for $to the same address provided to usWe are sorry if this has caused you any inconvenience
Final Consumer Response /* (2000, 15, 2015/08/28) */
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
I am satisfied the office refunded the amount the recovery service charged meI hope they revise their office policies for active patients who have always paid their bills

April 17, 2018Dear Revdex.com:I am responding to a complaint that was filed on 4/10/with ID *** I have talked to the patient and have explained to her how her insurance works. I explained medical versus routine insurance when it comes to vision. At this time
the patient still expected our clinic to bill her routine benefits; we are unable to do that because she has a medical diagnosis. We sent her claim to medical; however, she has not met her deductible yet. *** *** was very concerned about her vision. *** *** then asked her if it was ok to do the extra testing and if she had enough time in her schedule. The patient replied yes. The doctor did the testing and then explained the results and possible future complications to the patient. While discussing this with the patient over the phone today, she understood everything her and the doctor discussed. She was just upset that her routine vision would not be billed due to the medical diagnosis. The patient and I talked about the inquiry on the credit card. I told her that I would wait for the letter from the credit card company and I would sign off on the ok to give her the money back, with the understanding it would be as if this exam and testing never took place and the patient said she would seek another doctor. I did ask the patient to please continue to get dilated eye exams yearly because the doctor felt like her vision is at risk if not properly monitored. The patient and I made an agreement that we would refund the money through the credit card company dispute process. Sincerely, *** ***Business ManagerSunshine Eye Clinic
