Complaint: 11387722
I am rejecting this response because:
I have been nothing but 100% crystal clear from the moment I called Kevin K[redacted] & Aspen Chimney. I called and requested repair, cleaning and the need for some sort of certification for my 3 fireplaces (1 masonry, 2 gas) as we were considering downsizing.
Being a homeowner, I do not know or claim to know the lingo, code requirements and the like. Kevin is the one who informed me (and my husband in a subsequent phone call) of what we would “need” – which was a Level 2 Inspection and described what that inspection entailed during each phone call.
From the moment Kevin arrived at my home and made contact with me he determined, at a glance, a variety of “code violations”. At this time, is when he informed me that a Level 2 inspection would require us to cut open drywall and other surfaces for inspection! In addition, he used all of these excuses to claim he was unable to repair, clean or inspect our units. We understood the inability to fix the masonry fp on site, but not our gas units.
Also, while on site, Kevin clearly stated that he was “unfamiliar with our Heat N Glo” gas units and would need to “do more research”.
Why would any reputable and professional company offer ANY service, and not make the consumer aware of the extreme conditions that would be necessary to perform said service? Why would any reputable and professional company agree to come repair an item that they would later admit to knowing nothing about? Why would any reputable and professional company refuse to provide a service touting nonexistent code violations?
There is only one answer to each of these questions… it’s because Kevin K[redacted] & Aspen Chimney Service is neither reputable nor professional. There only goal is to come out and purport to offer a service that he has no intention of providing. In addition, Kevin does his best to attempt to drum up further business under the same false pretenses using scare tactics and outright lies.
Every single thing that Kevin K[redacted] told us was “wrong” with our gas units was incorrect. Therefore, he could have easily repaired those units. This is a proven fact. We had to hire a different repair company, paid them an additional amount of money, who then came out and confirmed that EVERYTHING THAT KEVIN SAID WAS INCORRECT AS FAR AS CODE VIOLATIONS, in reference to our gas fireplaces, AND proceeded to repair said units and left them in perfect working order. That same company told us that an invasive Level 2 Inspection was not necessary and provided a Level 1 inspection during the same visit! Which is exactly what SHOULD have happened with Kevin & Aspen and did not!
In Kevin’s own words in his numerous Revdex.com replies, as well as the mostly blank inspection report, he claims he has written and mailed a detailed report. Kevin has been provided an email from the beginning and well as repeated requests to email said report. No such email, USPS mail has EVER been received. Kevin Kenny has yet to offer proof of said report to myself, my husband and/or the Revdex.com. Clearly, Kevin has not written such a report and this clearly demonstrates his deceptive business practice and the manner in which he does ‘business’. Based on this, we had to hire another professional to come out and perform a masonry specific inspection. Once again, which is exactly what SHOULD have happened with Kevin & Aspen and did not!
There was NEVER a time myself or my husband claimed to understand the specific nature of any gas and/or masonry code details Nor, do I believe, we touted any such codes in any of our replies. We simply relied on what this, supposid, professional told us. Any misunderstanding are solely a result of misinformation Kevin told us. Information that he continues to change as it suits his needs. Clearly, it is his intention with this is to get away with charging a consumer for a service he had/has no intention of ever providing.
I am unaware of ANY contradiction at any time in any of my replies. I have been nothing short of specific and detailed as to what we were told, what Kevin did, and what the end result was. If Kevin wishes to tout code and their meanings as a way to confused and muddle the circumstances here – he can certainly try. However, the reality is we never claimed to understand any such codes. We simply explained our needs and wants and were ‘sold’ a specific service under the guise of a “professional” providing such services. Kevin K[redacted] & Aspen did not provide any of those services and we certainly DID NOT get anything close to what we paid for. We learned, the hard way, that Kevin K[redacted]’s reputation is clearly displayed on the internet for anyone to find. We wish we would have found it before we wasted $169.95. At this point it is obvious, based on his deceptive and untrustworthy business practices as well as his silly replies contained in this filing, that he has no intention of returning our money, but it is our hope that everyone and anyone researching Kevin K[redacted] and Aspen Chimney will find this Revdex.com claim and other online reviews to warn them before wasting their money, time and effort.
Our final comment…
Each and every consumer reading this should pay close attention to Kevin's last sentence in which he clearly states that he “looks forward to seeing ‘her’ in court”. I don’t know about you, but any business that revels in forcing a consumer to go to court, “looks forward” to court to resolve their differences should be a huge red flag to avoid doing business with!! We suspect that Aspen Chimney is not aware that each and every response he has filed here, with the Revdex.com, will be posted for future consumers to read and review. Maybe in the end, the last laugh is on him. That gives us immense satisfaction and might just be worth the $169.95 we paid in the end!

[redacted] scheduled an appointment for july 13 2015 to perform a fire and safety inspection at his property, this inspection is required by norristown boro for a use and occupancy permit. Aspen chimney has been performing theses level 2 inspections for the boro for over 25 years. the...
inspection was performed by me the owner kevin k[redacted] while in the company of [redacted] ,at each stage of the inspection from the basement to the rooftop he was present and all aspects of inspection explained and pictures were taken of rusted connectors and a deteriorated flue of terracotta.upon completion of inspection bayinder did not want to pay the inspection fee that he was clearly informed of when he made the appointment. after explaining to him this service is not free and had his chimney met code he would have been issued the certification he payed the inspection fee of 169.10.he was told this service call could be put towards any repair work needed. at that point I gave him his inspection report that he signed saying he was aware of the condition of the chimney and it did not meet code [ nfpa 54] gas code.at that point an estimate was given for repairs not the 2000.00 bayinder falsely claims. he attempted to negotiate the price to 500.00 from 1500.00. it seems bayinder is using the chimney companys propaganda that he hired, almost word for word from their website,we take pictures of all inspections performed and they are available, and we stand by our report, to falsely claim a liner was present and met code requirements is false and the pictures prove it .at this time I will be forwarding my report to Norristown boro and checking to see if the required permits have been purchased to install the liner that is now in place.and to inform them that an additional inpection be performed with representatives of both companys present. at this time we feel a refund is not required as we performed our level 2 inspection as contracted.any further false claims will be forwarded to our lawyer for possible legal action as defamation will not be tolerated. thank you Kevin K[redacted]
this woman is clearly mistaken and contradicts herself from the first statement to last. nfpa211 does not say you have to cut panels or any other means. the inspection is done by visual observations either a light and mirror OR video I refuse to debate this any further you can reference NFPA 211 IN REGARDS TO LEVEL 2 INSPECTIONS.I stand by my inspection and look forward to seeing her in court no further time of mine will be wasted on this customer
Mrs. [redacted] called and set an appointment for an inspection of her fireplace units that she explained had not been working for a while. I arrived at the appointment time on schedule I ,first noticed a gas vent protruding thru a steep pitched roof in front of house the vent was approx. 18 inches...
including cap, upon greeting the customer I was escorted to the bedroom where a heat n glo gas fireplace had been installed, she explained the pilot kept going out. after inspecting the unit including the crawl space behind the unit it was discovered that serious gas code violations,ie. gasline attached around door frame and exposed to nails screws ect. existed I also explained code for height requirements for chimneys and vents noting in the report the same. next I was tasken to the basement to look at a gas fireplace, same type of unit as upstairs. the unit was built into an entertainment center with no access to clean or inspect vent. this unit also was not working. I explained I was not an authorized dealer or tech for this product and asked her who installed them.she showed the receipts and claimed she was unable to reach her initial contractor.we then inspected the vent on the exterior that was in bad condition after 15 or 20 years I explained direct vent verses vented units and told her without an access to the rear of unit by cutting out a panel I could not certify it. we then looked at the masonry fireplace upon inspection with a flashlight I showed the customer glazing. 1st and 2nd degree creosote on the flue tiles and chamber area this alone failed the inspection. we looked at the exterior that has excessive water damage and block separation due to failed mortar joints. I explained this was common builders grade type contruction as the stucco finish had been applied without the proper lathe or scratch coat. NOT" chicken wire". the crown wash was also damaged allowing water entry and damage the customer acknowledged this and informed me she had other experts look at it but would not let them repair because her special brown siding on the house had a warranty and no one was authorized to repair it without voiding it.she then went on to explain how the repair should be done but cant be unless the siding dealer authorized it. I wrote a 21 point safety inspection report had the customer sign saying she read the report and understands which areas of her chimney systems are unsatisfactory.this appointment was not for a cleaning as was claimed and could not be properly cleaned at the time of inspection as this is a lengthy process and would require mechanical or chemical cleaning to remove.I spent over an hour with the customer going over my report with her she requested I look into the gas units to see if I could fix them I told her I would research it and get back to her on this.her husband the called later and pretending to be a new customer in need of my service after explaining to him how the service worked he then identified himself and demanded a detailed report on the units. this was deceptive and childish ploy that convinced me that I would prefer not to do business with these people the phone call is recorded and will show the husbands bad language and his hangup to terminate the call.I am willing to meet with code enforcement and the fire marshall to examine my findings I will be sending them copies of my report and my findings of code violations. I did the inspection, the report is signed by the customer I feel no refund is warranted .I stand by the inspection report based on 30 years experience as a certified master sweep and mason [ copy enclosed] and invite any other certified sweep to dispute it with township officials present at the property.
Review: I contacted Aspen Chimney Service to clean out our chimney; however, upon inspection of the chimney, an Aspen Service representative told me that our chimney liner needed to be replaced and could be posing a danger to our household. It was after this initial meeting that we contracted Aspen to put in a chimney liner, as we had a terricota liner prior, and to install a chimney cap. The total for the service was $2008.30. On the night after the liner and cap were installed, our home heater shut down. I immediately called the owner of the company that evening who convinced me that it had nothing to do with the installation process. Two separate heating companies have supplied documentation that the heater kept shutting off because Aspen downsized the boiler vent that ran from the heater to the chimney. Nine days later, during the winter months, as the problem persisted we told Aspen Service Co. to remove the liner and cap, or we would hire another company to do it. Once Aspen removed the liner and a a heating company corrected the way Aspen's Service Co. put the proper sized duct in, our heater has worked properly. After several letters, even one that was drafted by a legal firm, Aspen has not returned our money, or contacted us. To add to this Aspen's lack of credibility, the inspection of our chimney by another company showed that we never needed a new liner, rather to have a crack at the bottom the chimney repaired.
(I have pictures and letters of documentation to support everything that I have said)Desired Settlement: To be repaid for the $2008.30 that we paid for the chimney liner and cap that burned the front of heater and caused my family strife and loss of income. Also, we want to be reimbursed for the heating company service that only amounted to $160.00 because my home warranty covered all other charges.
Review: Aspen Chimney Service installed a chimney liner and the motar around the vent in the basement has fallen in. This allows hot air to leak into the basement from the attic space and is damaging my AC/furnace unit. I have made myself available on 3 occasions to have repairs be made, losing over 8-hr of work just for the appointment windows. When I spoke to the owner, he hung-up on me two times since as he stated "he had enough problems for the day and didn't feel like having another one". The owner continued to go on and call me names. All I am looking for is for the repair work to be done.Desired Settlement: Repair the motar and honor their warranty or refund me my money so I can hire another company to make the repairs.

to whom it may concernn, we are happy to return to seal a thimble area we only require that it be done during our normal hours.this was explained to **. [redacted],due to the extreme heat and because of inclimate weaather, we operate in the summer from 8am till 3pm and sat 9am till noon .as per our conversation on the previous monday,,I was dealing with a breakin and vandalism incident and **. [redacted]s "the customers always right" arguement and disappointment with a 30 min . delay in his scheduled time, along with his unreasonable demands in the face of a heatwave for a after 5pm appointment ,was my reason to terminate our conversation as I had lost patience and professionalism at that point. there was no name calling.
**. [redacted] can schedule his appointment at his convienance in the business hours provided understang that in this service business a window of 3 hrs. is needed due to unforseen circumstances that might arise with previous appointments . we strive to see every customer is given the service they deserve sometimes we fall short of this goal and we apologise.

Review: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
I never demanded an after 5 appointment. The response of they were dealing with a vandalism was first never explained and was already the second appointment that was missed. I simply asked for then a first thing appointmment to avoid any more missed time. What the business did not state was I agreed to another time window for a saturdy between 1-3, and no one called or arrived to perform the work. I agree I stated I am the consumer, because I had already been hung up on and was called names, simply for asking someone to come out and do the work. I spoke to [redacted] on Monday and Tuesday she called back stating someone would call back by the end of the week and no one has called.
